The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When one of you leads the people in prayer, let him make it brief, for among them are the weak, the sick, and the elderly. But when one of you prays by himself, let him lengthen it as much as he wishes.”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِلنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ, فَإِنَّ مِنْهُمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالسَّقِيمَ وَالْكَبِيرَ، وَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطَوِّلْ مَا شَاءَ».

This is what Abu Huraira transmitted to us from Muhammad the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he narrated (some) ahadith out of (these narrations and one of them is this): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When any one of you stands to lead people In prayer, he should shorten it, for amongst them are the aged, and amongst them are the weak, but when he prays by himself, he may prolong his prayer as he likes.

عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْهَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا مَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ لِلنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفِ الصَّلاَةَ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الْكَبِيرَ وَفِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَإِذَا قَامَ وَحْدَهُ فَلْيُطِلْ صَلاَتَهُ مَا شَاءَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When any one of you leads people in prayer, he must shorten it for among them are the weak, the infirm and those who have business to attend.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِلنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِي النَّاسِ الضَّعِيفَ وَالسَّقِيمَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ

When one of you leads the people in prayer, he should be brief, for among them are the weak, the sick, and the aged. But when one of you prays by himself, he may pray as long as he likes.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِلنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالسَّقِيمَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَإِذَا صَلَّى لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطَوِّلْ مَا شَاءَ

when one of you leads the people in prayer, he should be brief, for among them are the sick, the aged and the needy.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِلنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ السَّقِيمَ وَالشَّيْخَ الْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ

the Prophet said: "When one of you leads the people in prayer then let him be brief, for indeed here are among them the young and the old, the weak and the ill. When one of you prays alone, then let him pray as he wishes."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَمَّ أَحَدُكُمُ النَّاسَ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الصَّغِيرَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَالْمَرِيضَ فَإِذَا صَلَّى وَحْدَهُ فَلْيُصَلِّ كَيْفَ شَاءَ

"When any one of you leads the people in prayer, let him make it short, for among them are the sick, the weak and the elderly. And when any one of you prays by himself, let him make it as long as he wishes."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ السَّقِيمَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ فَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطَوِّلْ مَا شَاءَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you lead the people in prayer, make it easy for them, as among them are the elderly, the weak, and the young."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَمَمْتُمُ النَّاسَفَخَفِّفُوا فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الْكَبِيرَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَالصَّغِيرَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When one of you prays with the people, let him shorten (the prayer), for among them there may be a weak person, an elderly person, and someone with a need."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالشَّيْخَ الْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ

[AI] And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When any of you leads the prayer for the people, let him shorten the prayer, for among them are the old, the weak, and the sick. But when he prays alone, let him prolong his prayer as much as he wishes."

وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا مَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ لِلنَّاسِفَلْيُخَفِّفِ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الْكَبِيرَ وَفِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَفِيهِمُ السَّقِيمَ وَإِذَا قَامَ وَحْدَهُ فَلْيُطِلْ صَلَاتَهُ مَا شَاءَ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you lead the people in prayer, make it easy for them, for among them are the elderly, the weak, and the young." He also said in another narration, "From Abu Al-Walid, the servant of Amr ibn Khidash."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَمَمْتُمُ النَّاسَ فَخَفِّفُوا فَإِنَّ مِنْهُمُ الْكَبِيرَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَالصَّغِيرَ وَقَالَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ عَنْ أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ مَوْلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ خِدَاشٍ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If anyone of you leads the people in the prayer, he should shorten it for amongst them are the weak, the sick and the old; and if anyone among your prays alone then he may prolong (the prayer) as much as he wishes. " (Using translation from Bukhārī 703)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالسَّقِيمَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطَوِّلْ مَا شَاءَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When one of you is the imam, let him shorten the prayer, for behind him are the weak, the elderly, and those in need. But when he prays alone, let him prolong the prayer as much as he wishes."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِمَامًا فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّهُ يَقُومُ وَرَاءَهُ الضَّعِيفُ وَالْكَبِيرُ وَذُو الْحَاجَةِ وَإِذَا صَلَّى لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطَوِّلْ مَا شَاءَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you lead the people in prayer, make it easy for them, as there may be among them the elderly, the weak, and the young."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَمَمْتُمُ النَّاسَ فَخَفِّفُوا فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الْكَبِيرَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَالصَّغِيرَ

[AI] "To the messenger of Allah, ﷺ : O Uthman, be the mother of your people, and let whoever is the mother of the people be considerate, for among them are the weak, the old, and those in need. So, when you pray for yourself, then pray as you wish."

لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا عُثْمَانُ أُمَّ قَوْمَكَ وَمَنْ أَمَّ الْقَوْمَ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتَ لِنَفْسِكَ فَصَلِّ كَيْفَ شِئْتَ

[AI] "That the Prophet ﷺ commanded him to lead his people, and he said: 'Whoever leads a group of people, let him go easy on them, as among them are the weak, elderly, sick, and those in need. And when he prays alone, let him pray as he wishes."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَؤُمَّ قَوْمَهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ أَمَّ قَوْمًا فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَالْمَرِيضَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ فَإِذَا صَلَّى وَحْدَهُ فَلْيُصَلِّ كَيْفَ شَاءَ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you lead people in the prayer, make it short, because there are among them some people who are weak, ill and old. But when you pray on your own, make it as long as you wish."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالسَّقِيمَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطَوِّلْ مَا شَاءَ

When one of you leads the people in prayer, he should be brief, for among them are the weak, the sick, and the aged. But when one of you prays by himself, he may pray as long as he likes. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 794)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ السَّقِيمَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطَوِّلْ مَا شَاءَ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When any one of you leads people in prayer, he must shorten it for among them are the weak, the infirm and those who have business to attend. (Using translation from Muslim 467c)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِي النَّاسِ الضَّعِيفَ وَالسَّقِيمَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ»

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال إذا صلى أحدكم بالناس فليخفف فإن فيهم السقيم والشيخ الكبير وذا الحاجة

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ إذا كان أحدكم إماما فليخفف فإن وراءه الضعيف والكبير وذا الحاجة فإذا صلى لنفسه فليطول ما شاء

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إذا أم أحدكم الناس فليخفف فإن فيهم الكبير والضعيف وذا الحاجة

"When any one of you leads the people in prayer, let him make it short, for among them are the sick, the weak and the elderly. And when any one of you prays by himself, let him make it as long as he wishes." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 823)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ السَّقِيمُ وَالضَّعِيفُ وَالْكَبِيرُ وَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ لِنَفْسِهِ فَلْيُطَوِّلْ مَا شَاءَ»

The Apostle of Allah ﷺ said: When any one of you leads the people in prayer, he should be brief for among them are the young and the aged, the weak and the sick. But when one of you prays by himself, he may (prolong) as he likes. (Using translation from Muslim 467a)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَمَّ أَحَدُكُمُ النَّاسَ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الصَّغِيرَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَالْمَرِيضَ فَإِذَا صَلَّى وَحْدَهُ فَلْيُصَلِّ كَيْفَ شَاءَ

"إذا أَمَّ أحدُكم النَّاسَ فلْيخففْ فإنَّ فيهم الصغيرَ والكبيرَ والضعيفَ والمريضَ وذا الحاجةِ وإِذا صَلّى لنفسِه فلْيطولْ ما شاء".

When one of you leads the people in prayer, he should be brief, for among them are the weak, the sick, and the aged. But when one of you prays by himself, he may pray as long as he likes. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 794)

"إذا صلَّى أحدُكُم للنّاسِ فَليُخَفِّفَ، فإِنَّ فيهم الضَّعِيفَ والسقيمَ والكبيرَ، وإذَا صلَّى أحدُكُمْ لنفسِه فَليُطَوِّلْ ما شَاءَ".

"أُمُّ قَوْمَكَ؛ فمن أمَّ قَوْمًا فَليُخَفِّف؛ فإنَّ فيهم الكبيرَ، وإن فيهم المريضَ، وإن فيهم الضعيف، وإن فيهم ذا الحاجة. فإذا صلى أَحدُكم وحده فليُصل كيفَ شاء".

"مَنْ أَمَّ قَوْمًا فَليُخَفِّفْ، فَإِنَّ فِيهِم الصَّغِيرَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَالْمَريضَ وَذَا الْحاجَةِ، فَإِذَا صَلَّى وَحْدَهُ فَليُصَلِّ كيفَ شَاءَ".

"يَا عثمَانُ: أمَّ القَوْمَ، وَمَنْ أمَّ القَوْمَ فَليُخَففْ؛ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضعِيفَ وَالكبِيرَ، وَذَا الحَاجَةِ، فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتَ لِنَفْسِكَ فَصَلِّ كيْفَ شِئْتَ".
