A hadith like this is reported on the authority of Abu Mas'ud through another chain of transmitters.  

مسلم:١٥٦٧b – وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ كِلاَهُمَا عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ وَفِي حَدِيثِ اللَّيْثِ مِنْ رِوَايَةِ ابْنِ رُمْحٍ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ
