It was narrated from ‘Aishah and Abu Hurairah that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to offer a sacrifice, he brought two large, fat, horned, black-and-white, castrated rams. He slaughtered one on behalf of his nation, for whoever testified to Allah with monotheism and that he had conveyed (the Message), and he slaughtered the other on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad ﷺ. كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا ضَحَّى اشْتَرَى كَبْشَيْنِ عَظِيمَيْنِ سَمِينَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ مَوْجُوئَيْنِ قَالَ فَيَذْبَحُ أَحَدَهُمَا عَنْ أُمَّتِهِ مِمَّنْ أَقَرَّ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لَهُ بِالْبَلَاغِ وَيَذْبَحُ الْآخَرَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

It was narrated from ‘Aishah and Abu Hurairah that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to offer a sacrifice, he brought two large, fat, horned, black-and-white, castrated rams. أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ اشْتَرَى كَبْشَيْنِ عَظِيمَيْنِ سَمِينَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ مَوْجَيَيْنِ فَيَذْبَحُ أَحَدَهُمَا عَنْ أُمَّتِهِ مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لَهُ بِالْبَلَاغِ وَذَبَحَ الْآخَرَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

[AI] Narrated by Abu Rafi', the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the morning sacrifice (Dhuhur), he would buy two fat male rams, both intact and of similar age. Then, after he finished praying and delivering his sermon to the people, he would bring one of them while he was standing in his prayer area, slaughter it himself with his own hands using a sharp-edged piece of metal and say, "O Allah, this is on behalf of my entire Ummah (nation), from among those who testify Your Oneness (Tawheed) and bear witness to my Prophethood (balagh). Then the other ram would be brought, and he would slaughter it himself, saying, "This is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." Then both rams would be distributed to the poor, and he and his family would eat from them. We remained for many years without a man from Bani Hashim performing the sacrifice. Allah had sufficed the Prophet ﷺ and his family with a hundred rams.

عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا ضَحَّى اشْتَرَى كَبْشَيْنِ سَمِينَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ فَإِذَا صَلَّى وَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ أَتَى بِأَحَدِهِمَا وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ فَذَبَحَهُ بِنَفْسِهِ بِالْمُدْيَةِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي جَمِيعًا مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لِي بِالْبَلَاغِ ثُمَّ يُؤْتَى بِالْآخَرِ فَيَذْبَحُهُ بِنَفْسِهِ وَيَقُولُ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ فَيُطْعِمُهُمَا جَمِيعًا الْمَسَاكِينَ وَيَأْكُلُ هُوَ وَأَهْلُهُ مِنْهُمَا فَمَكَثْنَا سِنِينَ لَيْسَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ يُضَحِّي قَدْ كَفَاهُ اللهُ الْمَئُونَةَ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَالْغُرْمَ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to bring two fat rams and would sacrifice one of them, saying, "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." Then he would bring the other ram and say, "O Allah, this is on behalf of my nation, those who testify to your oneness and believe in your message."

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُقَرِّبُ كَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ فَيَذْبَحُ أَحَدَهُمَا فَيَقُولُ «اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ» وَيُقَرِّبُ الْآخَرَ فَيَقُولُ «اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي مَنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَلِي بِالْبَلَاغِ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ sacrificed two large, fat, salted, paired, and bleating rams. He slaughtered one of them and said, "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and his ummah, from those who bear witness to Your Oneness, and bear witness to my Messengerhood." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.

عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا ضَحَّى اشْتَرَى كَبْشَيْنِ سَمِينَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ فَإِذَا صَلَّى وَخَطَبَ أَتَى بِأَحَدِهِمَا وَهُوَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ فَيَذْبَحُهُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي جَمِيعًا مِنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لِي بِالْبَلَاغِ ثُمَّ يُؤْتَى بِالْآخَرِ فَيَذْبَحُهُ وَيَقُولُ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ فَيُطْعِمُهُمَا جَمِيعًا الْمَسَاكِينَ وَيَأْكُلُ هُوَ وَأَهْلُهُ مِنْهُمَا قَالَ فَلَبِثْنَا سِنَينًا لَيْسَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ يُضَحِّي قَدْ كَفَاهُ اللَّهُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ عليه السلام الْمَؤُنَةَ وَالْغُرْمَ

[AI] The following passage translates to: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to purchase two fattened, healthy, and matching male sheep when he performed the Eid sacrifice. When he would address the people and lead the prayers, he would bring one of them and sacrifice it with his own hands using a sharp knife. Then, he would say, 'This is on behalf of my entire Ummah, whoever testifies to your Oneness and testifies for me.' After that, he would bring the second sheep and sacrifice it with his own hands, saying, 'O Allah, this is for Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.' He would then distribute the meat among the poor, and both he and his family would consume from it."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا ضَحَّى اشْتَرَى كَبْشَيْنِ سَمِينَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ حَتَّى إِذَا خَطَبَ النَّاسَ وَصَلَّى أَتَى بِأَحَدِهِمَا وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ فَذَبَحَهُ بِنَفْسِهِ بِالْمُدْيَةِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ «هَذَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي جَمِيعًا مَنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لِي بِالْبَلَاغِ» ثُمَّ يُؤْتَى بِالْآخَرِ فَيَذْبَحُهُ هُوَ بِنَفْسِهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ «اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ» فَيُعْطِيهِمْ جَمِيعًا الْمَسَاكِينَ وَأَكَلَ هُوَ وَأَهْلُهُ مِنْهُمَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to buy two healthy rams when he intended to sacrifice. Then, when he prayed and delivered the sermon, he would call one of them while it was in the place of prayer, and slaughter it. Afterwards, he would say, "O Allah, this is on behalf of my entire Ummah, whoever testifies to Your Oneness and testifies in support of my message." Then he would go to the other ram and slaughter it, and say, "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and his family."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ اشْتَرَى كَبْشَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ فَإِذَا صَلَّى وَخَطَبَ دَعَا بِأَحَدِهِمَا وَهُوَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ فَذَبَحَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي جَمِيعًا مَنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لِي بِالْبَلَاغِ» ثُمَّ أَتَى الْآخَرَ فَذَبَحَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to bring two rams, both black and horned. He would slaughter one of them and say, "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." Then he would bring the other ram and say, "O Allah, this is on behalf of my Ummah, to whoever testifies to Your Oneness and testifies to my prophethood."

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُقَرِّبُ كَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ فَيَذْبَحُ أَحَدَهُمَا فَيَقُولُ «اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ» وَقَرَّبَ الْآخَرَ فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي لِمَنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لِي بِالْبَلَاغِ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ was brought two huge, dark, horned rams, so he laid down one of them and said, “In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad.” Then he laid down the other one and said, “In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and his Ummah, from among those who have testified to Your oneness and testified to my Prophethood.” Then he slaughtered it.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِكَبْشَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ عَظِيمَيْنِ مَوْجُوءَيْنِ فَأَضْجَعَ أَحَدَهُمَا فَقَالَ بِسْمِ اللهِ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ثُمَّ أَضْجَعَ الْآخَرَ فَقَالَ بِسْمِ اللهِ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأُمَّتِهِ مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لِي بِالْبَلَاغِ فَذَبَحَهُ

[AI] From Abu Rafa', the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to buy two fat rams when he performed the sacrifice (on Eid al-Adha). He would slaughter one of them himself with his own hand, saying, "This is on behalf of my Ummah, everyone who testifies to your Oneness and testifies to my Prophethood." Then he would bring the other ram and slaughter it, saying, "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." He would then distribute the meat among the poor, while he and his family would eat from it. We remained in this state for several years. Allah sufficed us with provisions and removed any need for financial assistance from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . No one from the Banu Hashim (his tribe) would sacrifice (any animals) after that.

عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا ضَحَّى اشْتَرَى كَبْشَيْنِ سَمِينَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ فَإِذَا خَطَبَ وَصَلَّى قَامَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ فَذَبَحَ أَحَدَ الْكَبْشَيْنِ هُوَ بِنَفْسِهِ بِالْحَرْبَةِ وَيَقُولُ هَذَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي جَمِيعًا مَنْ شَهِدَ لَكَ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَشَهِدَ لِي بِالْبَلَاغِ ثُمَّ أَتَى بِالْآخَرِ فَذَبَحَهُ قَالَ اللهُمَّ هَذَا عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ثُمَّ يُطْعِمُهَا جَمِيعًا لِلْمَسَاكِينِ وَيَأْكُلُ هُوَ وَأَهْلُهُ مِنْهُمَا فَمَكَثْنَا سِنِينَ قَدْ كَفَى اللهُ الْمُؤْنَةَ وَالْغُرْمَ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ يُضَحِّي

ؓ أَوْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ الشَّكُّ مِنْ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا ضَحَّى دَعَا بِكَبْشَيْنِ عَظِيمَيْنِ سَمِينَيْنِ أَمْلَحَيْنِ مُوجَأَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ فَذَبَحَ أَحَدَهُمَا عَنْ أُمَّتِهِ مَنْ شَهِدَ لَهُ بِالْبَلَاغِ وَشَهِدَ لِلَّهِ بِالتَّوْحِيدِ وَيَذْبَحُ الْآخَرَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

"اللَّهُمَّ هذا عن محمد وآل محمد، وقرب الآخر وقال: اللَّهُمَّ هذا عن أمتى لمن شهد لك بالتوحيد وشهد لي بالبلاغ" .
