33. Book of Medicine (2/2)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘On the night on which I was taken on the Night Journey (Isra’), I did not pass by any group (of angels) but they said to me: “O Muhammad, tell your nation to use cupping.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3479)
Umm Salamah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permission for getting herself cupped. He commanded Abu Tibah to cup her. The transmitter said: I think he was her foster-brother or a boy not yet of age. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4105)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever performs hijama on the seventeenth of the month will have a cure for every disease."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best days for you to observe fasting are the seventeenth, nineteenth, and twenty-first days."
"The Prophet ﷺ would get cupped in his jugular veins and his upper back. And he would get cupped on the seventeenth (of the month), (or) the nineteenth, and (or) the twenty first." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2051)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The vein in the middle of the head is a cause of madness, leprosy, drowsiness, and toothache." And he used to call it "savior."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Hijama (cupping therapy) increases intelligence and improves memory. Therefore, perform hijama on the name of Allah on Thursday. Do not perform hijama on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. And perform hijama on Monday and Tuesday. No one catches leprosy or scab except on Wednesday night." All the narrators of this hadith are trustworthy except Ghazal ibn Muhammad, who is unknown to me for his credibility or weakness. The hadith has been confirmed from Ibn Umar, without a chain of narrators or a connected chain. Ghazal ibn Muhammad is unknown.
[Machine] From Nafi', Abdullah bin Hisham Al-Dustouri is forgotten.
“Ibn ‘Umar said: ‘O Nafi’! The blood is boiling in me. Bring me a cupper and let him be a young man, not an old man or a boy.’ Ibn ‘Umar said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Cupping on an empty stomach is better, and it increases one’s intellect and memory. And it increases the memory of one who has a good memory so whoever wants to be cupped, (let him do it) on a Thursday, in the Name of Allah. Avoid cupping on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Have yourselves cupped on Mondays and Tuesdays, and avoid cupping on Wednesdays, for that is the day on which the calamity befell Ayyub, and leprosy and leucoderma only appear on Wednesday or the night of Wednesday.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3488)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When the weather becomes extremely hot, seek relief through cupping, but do not cause harm to anyone by drawing too much blood that may lead to their death.'"
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘What a good slave is the cupper. He takes away the blood, reduces pressure on the spine, and improves the eyesight.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3478)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Whoever gives medical treatment, with no prior knowledge of medicine, is responsible (for any harm done).’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3466)
In the pre-Islamic period we used to apply spells and we asked: Messenger of Allah ! how do you look upon it ? He replied : Submit your spells to me. There is no harm in spells so long as they involve no polytheism. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3886)
that the Prophet ﷺ saw in her house a girl whose face had a black spot. He said. "She is under the effect of an evil eye; so treat her with a Ruqya." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5739)
[Machine] The Prophet used to, when visiting a sick person, sit by their head and say seven times, "I ask Allah the Mighty, the Lord of the Great Throne, to heal you." If it was decreed for them to be delayed in their recovery, then that pain would be forgiveness for them.
[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "Whoever visits a sick person and says, 'I ask Allah the Great, the Lord of the Great Throne, to heal you. It is a duty upon me to heal you seven times if death is not imminent.' Abu Khalid Ad-Dalani and Maysarah ibn Habib An-Nahdi narrated this from Al-Minhâl ibn 'Amr who narrated it from Sa'id ibn Jubair who narrated it from Ibn Abbas."
33.4 [Machine] Medicine: The Eternal Conversation
"There is no Muslim worshiper who visits one who is ill - other than at the time of death - and he says seven times: As'alullah Al-'Azeem Rabbal 'Arshil 'Azeem an yashfik ('I ask Allah the Magnificent, Lord of the Magnificent Throne to cure you') except when he will be cured." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2083)
33.5 [Machine] Medicine > Hadith of Maisarah ibn Habib
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever visits a sick person whose time of death has not come yet, and says, 'I ask Allah the Great, the Lord of the Great Throne, to heal you,' except that he is cured."
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade cauterization. I had myself cauterized and I have not prospered or succeeded.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3490)
[Machine] A man from the Ansar was afflicted with a severe illness, so they prescribed cupping for him. They came to the Prophet ﷺ , but he turned away from them. Then they came to him again, but he turned away from them. Then in the third or fourth time, he said, "If you wish, you may do cupping for him."
[Machine] He said, "The angels did not greet me until the trace of fire disappeared from me".
Jabir reported that Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a phystian to Ubayy b. Ka'b. He cut the vein and then cauterised it. (Using translation from Muslim 2207a)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned with Saad bin Zurarah and had a thorn in his foot. When he went to him, he said, "This dead person (referring to the thorn) is a horrible thing. The Jews say that if he cannot afford to treat it and he cannot even take care of himself, then he should not be blamed for his father, Ummamah." He ordered for it to be removed, and he died.
[Machine] I heard Umar and I have not seen anyone among us who is similar, saying that Saad ibn Zurarah had an illness and the people of Medina called it "dhabh" (slaughter). So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cauterized him and he died. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May the Jews say about the deceased, 'If it was not for the intervention of his companion (referring to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ) and I had no control or possession over him, nor anything for myself.'"
‘Seek refuge with Allah, for the evil eye is real.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3508)
‘The evil eye is real.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3507)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you sees something pleasing from himself or his brother, he should pray for blessings, for the evil eye is real."
[Machine] Waki' used to attribute the protection of his garments to a covering (siṭr), even when he saw that a piece of wool had been removed from them, he placed it and then entered the water. I looked at him and aimed at him with my eyes, then I heard a sucking sound in the water, so I approached him and called him three times, but he did not answer me. So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him, and he came walking and entered the water until it seemed as if I were looking at the whiteness of his calves. He struck his chest and said, "O Allah, remove its heat, coldness, and inflammation." Then he stood up and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whenever one of you sees something in himself, his wealth, or his brother that he likes, let him pray for blessings, for the evil eye is a reality."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم saying: "Whoever wears an amulet, Allah will not complete his matter, and whoever wears a necklace, Allah will not leave him."
[Machine] I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ while having a ring on my finger, and he asked, "What is this?" I said, "It is from silver." He said, "Throw it away."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever holds onto something, he will be entrusted with it." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
[Machine] I entered upon Zainab, the wife of Abdullah, seeking refuge in her from a burning ember that appeared on her face while she was wearing a talisman. I was sitting when Abdullah entered. When he saw the talisman, he went to a wooden pillar in the house and placed his cloak on it. Then he tied it with his arms restrained. He approached her and took hold of the talisman, pulling it so forcefully that her face almost hit the ground. It broke off and he left the house, saying, "The family of Abdullah has become rich enough to abstain from associating partners with Allah." He then went out and threw it behind the wall, and he said, "Oh Zainab, get rid of it! I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding amulets, talismans, and superstitious beliefs." So Umm Najiya said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, we understand the prohibition of amulets and talismans, but what is 'tawliyah'?" He said, "Tawliyah is anything that incites women." (The narration ends here without any comment from Adh-Dhahabi)
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ "Indeed, ruqyahs, talismans, and amulets are forms of shirk (associating partners with Allah)."
[Machine] "The talisman is not what you hold onto after the affliction, rather the talisman is what you hold onto before the affliction."
[Machine] "The amulet is not what is tied after calamity; rather, the amulet is what is tied before calamity."
[Machine] She sent to Aisha with her brother Makhrmeh and she was treating a wound that children have. When Aisha treated him and finished, she saw two new ankle bracelets on his feet. So Aisha said, "I think you believe that these two ankle bracelets ward off something from him that Allah has written for him. If I saw them, it would not treat him and it would not touch me. By my life, two ankle bracelets made of silver are purer than these."
