33. Book of Medicine
[Machine] Narrated by Abdullah, he said: "The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Verily, Allah has not sent down any disease except that He has also sent down its cure, except for one ailment, which is old age. So, make use of the milk of the cow, for indeed it contains cure for every ailment.'" Al-Dhahabi remained silent regarding this in his summary.
[Machine] "Regarding the Prophet ﷺ, poetry, and the Arabic language, upon the Arabs, who did you learn medicine from?" She said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was a sickly man, and the Arab physicians would come to him, so I would learn from them."
[Machine] They said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you seek cure?" He said, "You should know that Allah the Most High has not sent down any disease except that He has also sent down its cure, except for one disease." They asked, "What is that disease?" He said, "Old age."
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Solomon, the son of David ﷺ , used to see a growing tree in front of him when he stood during Ramadan. He would ask, 'What is your name?' The tree would reply, 'Such and such.' He would then ask, 'What are you for?' The tree would answer, 'For medicine.' So he would write it down, or 'For planting,' so he would plant it. One day, while he was praying, a tree grew in front of him, and he asked, 'What is your name?' It said, 'The thorn tree.' He asked, 'What are you for?' It answered, 'For destroying the people of this house.' Solomon, peace be upon him, said, 'O Allah, cause my kingdom to prevail over the jinn until it is known to humans that the jinn do not know the unseen.' Then he took the tree and carved it into a cane, and leaned on it as if it was a dead stick, while the jinn continued to work. Then they brought it water and the earth swallowed it, so it fell. When it fell, it became clear to humans that the jinn do not know the unseen. Ibn Abbas used to recite it in this way."
[Machine] "What are you and for what reason did you come?" She replied, "I am the hoopoe bird. I have come to witness the destruction of this mosque." Solomon, peace be upon him, knew that his death was near and that the sacred house would not be destroyed while he was alive. So, he called upon Allah the Almighty to cause the devil's death to put him to sleep. The jinn believed that the devils knew the unseen, so he died while leaning on his staff. The earth swallowed him and he fell down, and so it was the right of the devils that the earth brought them water as a sign of gratitude for what they had done with Solomon's staff."

Allah has made things easy for you, except for the one who borrows from his brother, for indeed that is something that causes difficulty and destruction.'" (According to the condition set by Bukhari and Muslim)

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked: ‘Do you think that the medicines with which we treat ourselves, the Ruqyah by which we seek healing, and the means of protection that we seek, change the decree of Allah at all?’ He said: ‘They are part of the decree of Allah.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3437)
[Machine] He said to the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah, do you see a medicine that we can use for treatment, and a talisman that we can hang with it? Does that go against Allah's decree in any way?" The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "It is part of Allah's decree." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about this in his summary.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the One who has sent down illness has also sent down its cure."
There is a remedy for every malady, and when the remedy is applied to the disease it is cured with the permission of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious. (Using translation from Muslim 2204)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Upon you are the two healers: honey and the Qur'an. This is a authentic narration based on the conditions of the two Sheikhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not reject it." And it has been narrated by Wakee' bin al-Jarrah from Sufyan, based on the conditions of Bukhari and Muslim.
[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic phrase into English is: "The healing of Abdullah lies in reciting the Quran and drinking honey."
[Machine] Abdullah wishes you the healing of both the Qur'an and honey.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "When one of you is afflicted with fever, let him cool himself with cold water for three nights."
[Machine] Cool it down with Zamzam water, for indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fever is from the heat of Hell, so cool it down with Zamzam water."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ entered upon her one day and found her grinding barley. He said, "What are you doing with this?" She replied, "Fulan drinks it." He said, "If something could repel death or be of benefit against death, then barley would be it."
"Shubrum" He said: "It is hot and too strong." She said:"Then I used Senna as a laxative." So the Prophet ﷺ said: "If there was anything that would have a cure for death in it, then it would have been Senna." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2081)
“I heard Abu Ubayy bin Umm Haram, who had prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ facing both the Qiblah, saying: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “You should use senna and the Sannut, for in them there is healing for every disease, except the Sam.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is the Sam?” He said: “Death.” (One of the narrators) ‘Amr said: “Ibn Abu ‘Ablah said: the ‘Sannut is dill.” Others said: “Rather, it is honey that is kept in a skin (i.e., receptacle) used for ghee.”* (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3457)
"I heard Zaid bin Arqam say: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to use Qust Al-Bahri and oil to treat Pleurisy.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2079)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ describe "oil and wax from the same source." Qatadah said, "It is squeezed from the side that hurts." And it was narrated by Abdullah bin Maimun from his father. Al-Dhahabi did not mention it in his summary.
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prescribed Wars (memecyclon tinctorium), Indian aloeswood and olive oil for pleurisy, to be administered through the side of the mouth.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3467)
[Machine] The first time the Messenger of Allah ﷺ complained in the house of Maymuna, his pain intensified to the point of him fainting. He consulted the women about his condition, and they cupped him. When he regained consciousness, he asked, "What is this that the women from this region brought upon me?" and he pointed towards the land of Abyssinia (Ethiopia), where Asma bint 'Umays was residing. They said, "It is a cupping procedure they do to treat a disease." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, it is a remedy, but Allah would not allow me to be harmed by it. Except that all the people in the house were cupped, except Abbas (the Prophet's uncle)." He said, "Maymuna was truly generous that day, and she was fasting out of determination to follow the example of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."
[Machine] "Oh son of my sister, I have witnessed a strange matter of the greatness of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . It happened that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would wear a waist-wrap tightly, and we used to say that it caused the Prophet ﷺ pain; we thought that the waist-wrap had caused him kidney pain. However, one day it tightened so strongly around him that he lost consciousness, and we became afraid and people rushed to him. We thought that the pain was on his side, so we took it off. Then the incident remained a secret from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and when he woke up, he realized that he had been wrapped tightly and found the mark of the tightness. He said, 'You assumed that Allah had placed it upon me, but Allah would never place it upon me. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, there will not remain anyone in the house who will not experience the tightness, except my uncle.'
Then I saw them experiencing tightness, one person after another. Aisha said, 'And whoever was in the house on that day, we would mention their virtue (for example, "the one who migrated with the Prophet, the one who participated in the Battle of Badr, etc.") and they would experience the tightness.' The tightness reached the wives of the Prophet ﷺ , and they would experience it, one after another.'
Abu Zinad said, 'And I did not know anyone other than Maymunah.' And the people said it was Umm Salamah. She said, 'By Allah, I was fasting.' We said, 'How could we ever leave you when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sworn that we would experience the tightness?' So we took it off her."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The date palm, the rock, and the tree are from Paradise."
[Machine] The delegation of the people of Hijar from the tribe of Abd al-Qais came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. While they were sitting with him, he approached them and said, "There is a type of date that you call it this, and another type of date that you call it that," until he counted all the colors of their dates. Then a man from the tribe said to him, "By my father and mother, O Messenger of Allah, if I were born in the womb of Hijar, I would not be more knowledgeable than you about the hour. I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah." He said, "Indeed, your land has been uplifted for me since you came to me. I have looked at it from its lowest point to its farthest point. The best of your dates is the Barni, it removes disease and there is no disease in it."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of your dates is the Barni, it expels disease and has no disease in it." We have narrated it as a witness.
[Machine] From Umm al-Mundhir al-Ansariyyah, who was one of the Prophet's maternal aunts, she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me while he had Ali with him, who was suffering from some illness, and there was some barley hanging in the house. The Prophet ﷺ stood up and took some of it, and then he faced me and took from it. He said, "Leave it, for it does not agree with you, as you are a camel rider." So, I went and cooked some barley and meat, and brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Ali, eat from this, for it is more suitable for you." This narration was reported by Zaid bin al-Hubab from Fuleih bin Sulaiman, and it was also reported from Umm Mubashir al-Ansariyyah.

[Machine] About Umm Mubashir al-Ansariyyah, some of the Prophet's ﷺ paternal aunts said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me while Ali was with him, riding a camel that was sick, and he mentioned the hadith in a similar manner.
"Whenever one of the wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became (feverishly) ill, he would order that some broth be prepared. Then he would tell them to take some of the broth. And he would say: 'It firms the heart of the grieved, and it rids the worries from the heart of the ill just as one of you removes dirt from her face with water." Another chain reports a similar narration. (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2039)

[Machine] I heard Ayman Al-Makki say: Fatimah bint Al-Mundhir informed me that Umm Kulthum narrated from Aisha that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Stick to the beneficial hatred, by the One in whose hand is my soul, indeed he washes the stomach of one of you as he washes the filth from his face with water." He said, "When someone complained to the Prophet ﷺ about a member of his family, the bottle would continue to boil on the fire until one of his sides was decided, either death or life."

[Machine] There was a child with Aisha, the mother of the believers, who was bleeding from his nose. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered and said, "What's wrong with this child?" Aisha explained the situation, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Woe to you, O women! Do not kill your children. Whenever a woman experiences bleeding or a headache, she should take Indian incense." He then instructed Aisha to do so, and she followed his command, and the child got better.

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ described the treatment for impotence as drinking the melted fat of a female Arab sheep. It should be neither too young nor too old, and it should be divided into three parts, with one part consumed on an empty stomach every day." Anas said, "I have described this to three hundred people, and Allah Almighty has cured all of them." This hadith was narrated by Habib bin Ash-Shahid from Anas bin Sirin from Anas bin Malik."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the broth of women and said, "It is taken from the shoulder of an Arabian sheep, neither too young nor too old, then it is melted and drunk for three days." Anas ibn Malik said, "I have described it to more than three hundred people, and they all disapproved of it." All of these chains of narration are authentic according to the conditions of the two sheikhs (referring to Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim), but Hammad ibn Salama contradicted it from Anas ibn Sirin, and he reported it from his brother Ma'bad, who reported it from a man from the Ansar, who reported it from his father. "The saying among us about it is the saying of Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman and Al-Walid ibn Muslim." This is authentic.

[Machine] Amr bin Yahya bin Amarah bin Abi Hassan informed me that Maryam bint Iyas bin Al-Bukair, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , narrated that the Prophet ﷺ entered upon her and asked, "Do you have a child?" She replied, "Yes." So he called for the child and placed it between two fingers on his foot and said, "O Allah, make this child one who extinguishes the hardships of others and one who can be relied upon to take care of me." The child then became calm.

[Machine] An Arab from the tribe of Banu Fazara, from the tribe of Banu Umm Qirfa, entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He found a hajjam (a person who performs cupping) cupping him with horns and a needle. So, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is this? Why do you let this person cut your skin?" He replied, "This is cupping, and it is the best treatment you seek."
