31. Book of Dutifulness and Ties of Kinship (2/3)
The Prophet ﷺ said: There is no sin more fitted to have punishment meted out by Allah to its perpetrator in advance in this world along with what He stores up for him in the next world than oppression and severing ties of relationship. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4902)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Migration is not permissible for more than three days. If they meet, then one of them should greet the other with peace. If the other refuses to return the greeting, he is free from sin and the other incurs it. I consider, he said, that if they both die while they are migrants, they will not be reunited in Paradise."
AbuKhirash heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: If one keeps apart from his brother for a year, it is like shedding his blood. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4915)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who is your master, O Banu 'Ubayd?" They said, "Al-Jadd ibn Qays, because he is stingy." He responded, "What disease is worse than stinginess? Rather, your master and the son of your master is Bashir ibn Al-Baraa ibn Ma'rur." This hadith is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim and it has not been rejected. Sa'id ibn Muhammad, known as Al-Warraq, is trustworthy and reliable. We have recorded it from the hadith of 'Amr ibn Dinar, narrated from Abu Salamah.
[Machine] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wearing a coarse garment. Then a woman came to him and I was a young boy at that time. When she approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he extended his garment to her and she sat on it. I asked, 'Who is this?' They said, 'This is his mother who breastfed him.' This hadith is authentic in chain of narration and it has not been excluded." (Al-Dhahabi omitted it from his summary).
"The companion who is the best to Allah is the one who is best to his companion. And the neighbor that is the best to Allah is the one that is best to his neighbor." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1944)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honor his guest. His reward is one day and one night, and his hospitality lasts for three days and what comes after that is charity. It is not permissible for him to keep his guest with him until he forces him out." Zad ibn Wahb added in his narration, "And his reward is to serve him with the best of what he has." And Yahawi said, "Let the guest stay with him."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should honor his neighbor." And he mentioned the hadith until its end.
[Machine] "He heard Abu Shuraih saying that he heard it with his own ears, saw it with his own eyes, and felt it in his heart when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke about it. He then mentioned a similar Hadith to the Hadith of Malik, regardless of whether the two sheikhs disagreed or neither of them made use of Abdullah ibn Ishaq."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, "By Allah, he does not believe, by Allah, he does not believe, by Allah, he does not believe." They asked, "And what is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "A neighbor does not feel safe from the harms of his neighbor." They asked, "And what are his harms, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "His evil actions."
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "One who does not feel secure from his neighbor's harms is not a true believer." Al-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary.
God only gives faith to the one He loves
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has divided between you your characters just as he has divided between you your provisions. Allah gives wealth to the one He loves and to the one whom He does not love, but He does not give faith except to the one He loves. And whomever Allah gives faith to then He indeed loves him. I swear by the One who has the soul of Muḥammad in his Hand, a servant does not have Islam until his heart is in submission, and a servant does not have Islam until his neighbor is safe from his wickedness."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and complained to him about his neighbor. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, my neighbor harms me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Take out your belongings and place them on the road." So the man took out his belongings and placed them on the road. Every person who passed by asked him, "What's your problem?" He replied, "I complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about my neighbor, and he ordered me to take out my belongings and place them on the road." They started saying, "May Allah curse him, O Allah disgrace him." The man heard this and came back to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Please take back your order, I will never be harmed by him again, by Allah."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ complaining about his neighbor. The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Put your belongings in the street." The man did as he was told, and people passing by cursed him. He returned to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have faced nothing but curses from the people." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "And what did you find among them?" The man replied, "They cursed me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "If Allah has cursed you before the people, then there is no hope for you." The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, I cannot bear it anymore." Then the person who had complained to the Prophet ﷺ came back, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "You have either secured peace or cursed." This narration is according to the condition of being authentic in Sahih Muslim.
[Machine] "I heard Abu Huraira saying, it was said to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, that so and so prays at night, fasts during the day, but she speaks harshly towards her neighbors, causing harm. He said, 'There is no good in her, she is in the Fire.' It was also said to him that so and so performs the obligatory prayers, fasts during Ramadan, and gives charity, and she does not harm anyone else. He said, 'She is in Paradise.'"
[Machine] On the authority of Abu Yahya, the slave of Ja'dah bint Hubayrah, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, who said: It was said to the Prophet ﷺ : Indeed, so-and-so fasts during the day and stands in night prayer, but she harms her neighbors with her tongue. He ﷺ said: "There is no good in her; she is in the Fire." It was then said: But so-and-so performs the obligatory prayers, fasts in Ramadan, and gives charity from lawful earnings, and she does not harm anyone with her tongue. He ﷺ said: "She is in Paradise."

This is narrated by Ja'far bin Sulaiman from Abu Imran Al-Jawni, and the authentic narration is from Shu'bah from Abu Imran Al-Jawni from Talhah bin Abdullah, a man from the tribe of Taym Allah, from Aisha. She said, "I asked the Messenger of Allah, 'I have two neighbors, to whom should I send a gift?' He said, 'Send it to the one whose door is closest to yours.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You will not have faith until you love one another. Shall I not guide you to something that if you do it, you will love one another? Spread peace amongst yourselves." They said, "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, "Extend greetings of peace amongst yourselves, for by the One in whose hand is my soul, you will not enter Jannah (Paradise) until you have mercy upon each other." [Machine] I entered the mosque of Damascus and found a young man with a radiant face surrounded by people. Whenever they disagreed on something, they would turn to him and accept his opinion. So, I asked about him and was told, "This is Muadh ibn Jabal." The next day, I migrated and found him praying. I waited for him to finish his prayer, then I approached him from the front, greeted him, and said, "By Allah, I love you for the sake of Allah." He asked, "For Allah?" I replied, "For Allah." Then he repeated, "For Allah?" I said, "For Allah." He then took hold of my collar and pulled me closer, saying, "Be glad, for I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Allah, the Almighty, has declared that My Love is obligatory for those who love each other for My sake, those who sit together for My sake, those who exchange gifts for My sake, and those who visit each other for My sake.'"

[Machine] A man passed by, so I approached him and said, "Indeed, this person informed me of a narration from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Have you heard it?" He replied, "He only informed you of the truth." So I informed him, and he said, "I have indeed heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, regarding those who love each other for the sake of Allah, then Allah will shade them with His shade on the Day when there is no shade except His shade. And nothing is better than it." I asked, "May Allah have mercy on you, what is better than it?" He said, "I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'My love is worthy for those who love each other for my sake, and my love is worthy for those who frequently visit each other for my sake, and my love is worthy for those who give generously to each other for my sake.' And I do not know with which of them He began." I asked, "Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you?" He said, "I am 'Ubada ibn As-Samit'. And this is a authentic chain of narration according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) and they did not exclude it." Adh-Dhahabi refrained from discussing it in his summary.

I conveyed this to Ubada bin As-Samit and he said, "I do not narrate to you except what I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, that he said, "My love for those who love each other is confirmed, as well as my love for those who spend on each other, my love for those who sincerely befriend each other, my love for those who visit each other, and my love for those who maintain contact with each other." Shu'bah expressed doubt regarding those who maintain contact and those who visit each other.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "Verily, Allah has servants who are not prophets or martyrs, but the martyrs and prophets will envy them on the Day of Resurrection due to their closeness to Allah, the Exalted, and their positions with Him." Then, an Arab man kneeled down and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us and make their situations clear to us." He replied, "They are people from different tribes who love and befriend one another solely for the sake of Allah. Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, will place pulpits of light for them on the Day of Resurrection, from which the people will be afraid but they will not fear. They are the allies of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, who have no fear upon them and will not grieve."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A person is upon the religion of his close friend, so let one of you look at who you befriend." And it has been narrated from Abu al-Hubab Sa'id ibn Yassar from Abu Hurairah.

[Machine] A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am Fulanah bint Fulan." He said, "I have recognized you, so what is your need?" She said, "My need is for my cousin Fulan Al-Abid to propose to me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have already known him." She said, "He wants to marry me, so tell me the rights of the husband over the wife. If it is something I can handle, then I will marry him. But if it is something I cannot handle, then I will not marry." He said, "The right of the husband over the wife is that if he asks for her to lick his pus, blood, or pus-filled wound, then she should do so. If it were appropriate for a human being to prostrate to another human being, I would have commanded the wife to prostrate to her husband when he enters upon her, due to the preference Allah has given him over her." She said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I will not marry as long as I live in this world."

He asked, 'What is it that you are doing?' They replied, 'This is how we greet the prophets, may peace be upon them.' He said, 'We are more deserving of doing this for our Prophet.' The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, 'They have lied about their prophets just as they have distorted their scriptures. If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have ordered the wife to prostrate to her husband, due to his great right upon her. A woman cannot attain true faith until she fulfills the rights of her husband, even if he asks of her (whatever he wants) while she is on the back of a camel.'"
