I asked ʿAmra about taking a bath on Fridays. She replied, " Aisha said, 'The people used to work (for their livelihood) and whenever they went for the Jumua prayer, they used to go to the mosque in the same shape as they had been in work. So they were asked to take a bath on Friday.' "

كَانَ النَّاسُ مَهَنَةَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَكَانُوا إِذَا رَاحُوا إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ رَاحُوا فِي هَيْئَتِهِمْ فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ لَوِ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ

The people (mostly) were workers and they would come for Friday prayer in the same condition, so it was said to them: If only you were to perform Ghusl.

كَانَ النَّاسُ مُهَّانَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ فَيَرُوحُونَ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ بِهَيْئَتِهِمْ فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ لَوِ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ

[AI] "People used to be responsible for themselves, so they would go as they pleased. It was said to them, 'If only you had taken a shower.'"

كَانَ النَّاسُ عُمَّالَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ فَكَانُوا يَرُوحُونَ كَهَيْئَتِهِمْ فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ لَوْ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ

«كَانَ النَّاسُ مُهَّانَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ فَكَانُوا يَرُوحُونَ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ بِهَيْئَتِهِمْ فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ لَوِ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ»

[AI] "People used to look after themselves and they would go around in their own appearance. It was said to them, 'If you bathe, you will be purified in accordance with the teachings of Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari.'"

كَانَ النَّاسُ عُمَّالَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَكَانُوا يَرُوحُونَ بِهَيْئَتِهِمْ فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ لَوِ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ مُخَرَّجٌ فِي الصَّحِيحَيْنِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ

[AI] The people used to be responsible for themselves, and they would go to the Friday prayer in their own attire. It would be said to them, "If you had performed ablution, they would have taken out the statement from the Hadith of Yahya al-Ansari."

كَانَ النَّاسُ عُمَّالَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَكَانُوا يَرُوحُونَ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ بِهَيْئَتِهِمْ فَكَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُمْ لَوِ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ أَخْرَجَاهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى الْأَنْصَارِيِّ

"عَنْ يحيى قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عُمْرَةَ عَنِ الغُسْلِ يَوْمَ الجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ تَقُولُ: كَانَ النَّاسُ عُمَّالَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ فيروحون بهيئتهم، فَقِيلَ لَهُمْ: لَوِ اغْتَسَلْتُمْ".
