The Prophet ﷺ related, narrating from his Lord ﷻ, that a servant committed a sin and said, "O Allah, forgive my sin." Allah said, "My servant committed a sin and knew that he has a Lord who forgives sins and takes to account for the sin." Then the servant returned and sinned again and said, "O Lord, forgive my sin." Allah said, "My servant committed a sin and knew that he has a Lord who forgives sins and takes to account for the sin." Then the servant returned once more and sinned and said, "O Lord, forgive my sin." Allah said, "My servant committed a sin and knew that he has a Lord who forgives sins and takes to account for the sin. Do whatever you wish, for I have forgiven you." 'Abd al-Ala said, "I do not know whether he said this after the third or the fourth time: 'Do whatever you wish...'"

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِيمَا يَحْكِي عَنْ رَبِّهِ ﷻ قَالَ أَذْنَبَ عَبْدٌ ذَنْبًا فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي فَقَالَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي ذَنْبًا فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِالذَّنْبِ ثُمَّ عَادَ فَأَذْنَبَ فَقَالَ أَىْ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي فَقَالَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَبْدِي أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِالذَّنْبِ ثُمَّ عَادَ فَأَذْنَبَ فَقَالَ أَىْ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي فَقَالَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي ذَنْبًا فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِالذَّنْبِ وَاعْمَلْ مَا شِئْتَ فَقَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَكَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى لاَ أَدْرِي أَقَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ أَوِ الرَّابِعَةِ اعْمَلْ مَا شِئْتَ

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "If a servant commits a sin and then says, 'O Lord, I have sinned, so forgive me,' his Lord says (to the angels), 'My servant has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them, so I forgive my servant.' Then he continues committing sins and says, 'O Lord, I have sinned, so forgive me,' and his Lord says (to the angels), 'My servant has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them, so I forgive my servant.' Then he continues committing sins and says, 'O Lord, I have sinned, so forgive me,' and his Lord says (to the angels), 'My servant has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them, so I forgive my servant.'"

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ عَبْدًا أَصَابَ ذَنْبًا فَقَالَ أَيْ رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَقَالَ رَبُّهُ ﷻ عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ ثُمَّ مَكَثَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ ثُمَّ أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ فَقَالَ أَيْ رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْهُ فَقَالَ رَبُّهُ عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ ثُمَّ مَكَثَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ ثُمَّ أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ فَقَالَ أَيْ رَبِّأَذْنَبْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْهُ فَقَالَ رَبُّهُ عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "If a person commits a sin and then says, 'O Lord, I have committed a sin, so forgive me,' his Lord says, 'My servant knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds people accountable for them.' Then Allah forgives him. The servant remains as he pleases with the permission of Allah. Then he commits another sin and says, 'O Lord, I have committed a sin, so forgive me.' His Lord says, 'My servant knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds people accountable for them. I have forgiven my servant. Let him do as he pleases.' Then he commits another sin and says, 'O Lord, forgive my sin.' Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, says, 'My servant committed a sin knowing that he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds people accountable for them. Do as you please, for I have forgiven you.'"

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ عَبْدًا أَصَابَ ذَنْبًا فَقَالَ يَا رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَقَالَ لَهُ رَبُّهُ عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ ثُمَّ مَكَثَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ فَقَالَ يَا رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْهُ لِي فَقَالَ رَبُّهُ ﷻ عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي فَلْيَعْمَلْ مَا شَاءَ ثُمَّ عَادَ فَأَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا فَقَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي فَقَالَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي ذَنْبًا فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِالذَّنْبِ اعْمَلْ مَا شِئْتَ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَكَ

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "A man committed a sin and said, 'O Lord, I have committed a sin.' Or he said, 'I have done a deed, so forgive me.' Allah, the Exalted and Almighty, replied, 'My servant has committed a sin and he knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. I have forgiven my servant.' Then the man committed another sin or did another deed and said, 'O Lord, I have committed a sin. So forgive me.' And Allah, the Exalted and Almighty, replied, 'My servant has committed a sin and he knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. I have forgiven my servant.' Then the man committed another sin or did another deed and said, 'O Lord, I have committed a sin. So forgive me.' And Allah, the Exalted and Almighty, replied, 'My servant has committed a sin and he knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. I have forgiven my servant. I bear witness to you all that I have forgiven my servant, so let him do whatever he wants."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ «أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا فقَالَ أَيْ رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ ذَنْبًا أَوْ قَالَ عَمِلْتُ عَمَلًا فَاغْفِرْ لِي فقَالَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَبْدِي عَمِلَ ذَنْبًا فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي ثُمَّ أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ أَوْ قَالَ عَمِلَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي عَمِلْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْ لِي فقَالَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي ثُمَّ عَمِلَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ أَوْ أَذْنَبَ ذَنْبًا آخَرَ فقَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي عَمِلْتُ ذَنْبًا فَاغْفِرْ لِي فقَالَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَلِمَ عَبْدِي أَنَّ لَهُ رَبًّا يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِهِ أُشْهِدُكُمْ أَنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي فَلْيَعْمَلْ مَا شَاءَ»

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, regarding what he narrates from his Lord, the Exalted and Mighty, who said: "My servant has committed a sin and he said, 'O Lord, I have sinned.' So Allah said, 'My servant has committed a sin.' Then he knew that Allah forgives sins and takes account of sins. Then he returned and sinned again, and said, 'O Lord, I have sinned.' So Allah said, 'My servant has committed a sin.' And he knew that his Lord forgives sins and takes account of sins. He can do whatever he wishes, for I have indeed forgiven him."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَا يَحْكِي عَنْ رَبِّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا قَالَ «أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي ذَنْبًا فقَالَ أَيْ رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ فقَالَ أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي ذَنْبًا فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِالذُّنُوبِ ثُمَّ عَادَ فَأَذْنَبَ فقَالَ أَيْ رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ فقَالَ أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي وَعَلِمَ أَنَّ رَبَّهُ يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِالذَّنْبِ اعْمَلْ مَا شِئْتَ فَقَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَكَ»

O Allah, forgive me my sins, and Allah (the Exalted and Glorious) said: My servant commited a sin and then he came to realise that he has a Lord Who forgives the sins and takes to account (the sinner) for the sin. He then again committed a sin and said: My Lord, forgive me my sin, and Allah, the Exalted and High, said: My servant committed a sin and then came to realise that he has a Lord Who would forgive his sin or would take (him) to account for the sin. He again committed a sin and said: My Lord, forgive me for my sin, and Allah (the Exalted and High) said: My servant sas committed a sin and then came to realise that he has a Lord Who forgives the sins or takes (him) to account for sin. O servant, do what you like. I have granted you forgiveness. 'Abd al-A'la said: I do not know whether he said thrice or four times to do" what you desire". (Using translation from Muslim 2758a)
