A bedouin went to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about picking up a lost thing. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Make public announcement about it for one year. Remember the description of its container and the string with which it is tied; and if somebody comes and claims it and describes it correctly, (give it to him); otherwise, utilize it." He said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What about a lost sheep?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is for you, for your brother (i.e. its owner), or for the wolf." He further asked, "What about a lost camel?" On that the face of the Prophet ﷺ became red (with anger) and said, "You have nothing to do with it, as it has its feet, its water reserve and can reach places of water and drink, and eat trees."

A man came and asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ about picking a lost thing. A bedouin asked the Prophet ﷺ about the Luqata. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Make public announcement about it for one year and if then somebody comes and describes the container of the Luqata and the string it was tied with, (give it to him); otherwise, spend it." He then asked the Prophet ﷺ about a lost camel. The face of the Prophet ﷺ become red and he said, "You have o concern with it as it has its water reservoir and feet and it will reach water and drink and eat trees. Leave it till its owner finds it." He then asked the Prophet ﷺ about a lost sheep. The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is for you, for your brother, or for the wolf."

Malik related to me from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman from Yazid, the mawla of al-Munbaith that Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani said, "A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about finds. He said, 'Memorize the characteristics of the object found, then publicise it for a year. If the owner comes, give it to him. If not, then it is your business.' He said, 'What about lost sheep, Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'They are yours, your brother's or the wolf's.' He said, 'And the lost camel?' He said, 'It's none of your concern. It has its water and its feet. It will reach water and eat trees until its owner finds it.' "

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ قَوْلَهُ ﷺ فَشَأْنَكَ بِهَا أَرَادَ بِهِ فَاسْتَنْفِقْهَا
[Machine] He said: "A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I was with him, and he asked him about the stray livestock. He said, 'Know its brand and its shepherd, then announce it for a year.' He said, 'If no one claims it, then you may spend it.' He asked, 'What about the stray sheep?' He said, 'It belongs to you, your brother, or the wolf.' He asked, 'What about the stray camel?' He said, 'It has its vessel for water and its shoes for traveling, it will eat from the trees until its owner comes to claim it.'"
أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَتَى رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ قَالَ «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً» قَالَ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَأْتِ لَهَا طَالِبٌ فَاسْتَنْفِقْهَا قَالَ فَضَالَّةُ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ «لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ» قَالَ فَضَالَّةُ الْإِبِلِ؟ قَالَ «مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا رَبُّهَا»

[Machine] A man asked the Prophet about the lost camel. He said, "What is your relation to it? It has its saqāʾ (water container) and its shoes; it eats from the trees and it quenches its thirst until its owner comes to get it."
أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا تَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ وَتَرِدُ الْمَاءَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا بَاغِيهَا»
[Machine] A man asked the Prophet ﷺ about the camel's stray. He said, "What do you have to do with it? It has its owner, and its driver, as it eats the trees and returns the water until its owner comes to it."
أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا تَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ وَتَرِدُ الْمَاءَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا بَاغِيهَا»
[Machine] A man asked the Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , about the lost camel. He said, "What is your concern with it? It has its water container and its shoes. It eats from the trees and satisfies its thirst until its owner finds it."
أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا تَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ وَتَرِدُ الْمَاءَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا بَاغِيهَا»
[Machine] A man asked the Prophet ﷺ about a lost camel. He said, "Why do you care about it? It has its water bag and shoes with it. Let it eat from the trees until its owner finds it." He was then asked about a lost sheep, and he said, "Take it, for it belongs to you, your brother, or the wolf."
أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا دَعْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا» وَسُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ؟ فَقَالَ «خُذْهَا فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
[Machine] A man asked the Prophet SAW about a lost camel. He said, "What is the matter with you and the camel's supplies and shoes? Leave it to eat from the trees and return to the water until its owner comes." He was asked about a lost sheep, and he said, "It is yours or your brother's or the wolf's."
أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا دَعْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَتَرِدُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا بَاغِيهَا» وَسُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ قَالَ «هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
He turned red, and he said: “What does it have to do with you? It has its feet and its water supply, it can go and drink water and eat from the trees until its owner finds it.” And he was asked about lost sheep, and he said: “Take it, for it will be for you or for your brother or for the wolf.” And he was asked about lost property and he said: “Remember the features of its leather bag and strap, and announce it for one year, then if someone claims it, describing it to you with those features (give it to him), otherwise incorporate it into your own wealth.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2504)

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, the lost sheep," he said, "Take it, for it is either yours or your brother's or the wolf's." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, what about the lost camel?" So, he became angry and said, "What is it to you and it has its own shoes and water container? Leave it until its owner finds it."
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ضَالَّةُ الْغَنَمِ قَالَ «خُذْهَا فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ» قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَضَالَّةُ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَغَضِبَ فَقَالَ «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا حِذَاؤُهَا وَسِقَاؤُهَا دَعْهَا حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم وسئل عن ضالة الغنم فقال هي لك أو لأخيك أو للذئب وسئل عن ضالة الإبل فقال مالك ولها معها سقاؤها أو سقاؤه وحذائه دعه حتى يجده ربهوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لاَ نعلمُهُ يُرْوَى مِنْ حَدِيثِ القعقاع إلاَّ من حديث يحيى بن أيوب
