28. Salmān al-Fārisī

ahmad-zuhd:813ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ Waʾabū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr > al-Aʿmash > Abū Ẓabyān > Abū Muʿāwiyah > Jarīr > Wakīʿ > Jarīr

[Machine] Salman said to me, "O Jarir, humble yourself to Allah. For indeed, whoever humbles themselves to Allah in this world, Allah will raise them on the Day of Resurrection."

ahmad-zuhd:814ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > al-Aʿmash > Shimr b. ʿAṭiyyah > Salmān ؒ

[Machine] Most people have many sins, and the majority of their sins come from their words in disobedience to Allah.

ahmad-zuhd:815ʿAbdullāh from my father > Sayyār > Jaʿfar > Hishām > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] The giving of Salman, may Allah have mercy on him, was five thousand dirhams. He was the leader of nearly thirty thousand Muslims, and he used to address the people while wearing a garment, part of which he used as a mattress to sleep on and the other part he wore. When his giving was exhausted, he would spend from the earnings of his hands and eat from what his hands earned.

ahmad-zuhd:816ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Sufyān > Ḥabīb > Nāfiʿ b. Jubayr

[Machine] Salman, may Allah have mercy on him, went to the house of a Jewish or polytheistic woman seeking a place to pray. She said, "Seek a pure heart and pray wherever you wish." Salman, may Allah have mercy on him, then said, "You have understood."

ahmad-zuhd:817ʿAbdullāh from my father > Yazīd > Sulaymān al-Taymī > Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī

[Machine] Salman, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Do not be the first to enter the market and the last to leave, for indeed it contains the devil's ascent and the center of his banner." Yahya said: "It is the battle of the devil."

ahmad-zuhd:818ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAmr b. Ayyūb > Jaʿfar > Maymūn > Ḥudhayfah And Salmān Nazalā > Nabaṭiyyah Falammā Ḥaḍarat al-Ṣalāh

[Machine] Huzaifa and Salman stayed in a Nabatiyah (a place name) and when the prayer time came, they said, "Here is a clean place, let us pray in it." She (the other person) said, "Cleanse your heart." He (one of them) said to the other, "Take it as a wise word from the heart of a disbeliever."

ahmad-zuhd:819

[Machine] Abdullah narrated to us that Khadijah, the mother of Muhammad, used to come to my father and listen to him before the age of 30. She said: "Yazeed ibn Haroon narrated to us, who heard it from Al-Awwam, who heard it from Ibrahim At-Taymi, who heard it from Salman, who said: There are seven types of people who will be in the shade of Allah on the Day of Judgment, when there is no shade except for His shade. One of them is a man who met his brother and said, 'I love you for the sake of Allah,' and the other person responded in the same way. Another is a man whose eyes shed tears out of fear of Allah, and a man who gives charity with his right hand while hiding it from his left hand. There is also a man who is invited by a woman of beauty and charm, but he says, 'I fear Allah.' Another is a man whose heart is attached to the mosques out of his love for them. There is a man who diligently observes the timings of prayers according to the position of the sun. Lastly, there is a man who speaks with knowledge when he speaks, and remains silent with forbearance when he is silent."

ahmad-zuhd:820ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Sufyān > ʿAṭāʾ b. al-Sāʾib > Abū 125 al-Bakhtarī > Salmān ؒ

[Machine] "People will continue to prosper as long as the first one remains until the last one learns. But when the first one goes before the last one learns, that is when they are doomed."

ahmad-zuhd:821ʿAbdullāh from my father > Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > al-Taymī > Abū ʿUthmān > Salmān

[Machine] If people knew the help of Allah for the weak, they would not be indifferent during the daytime. Allah is too shy to let down a servant who extends his hands in supplication, asking for goodness in them, and then disappoint him. He said to him: If one person spends his night performing strenuous work while another spends it remembering Allah, I see that the one who remembers Allah and recites the Quran is better. He said: There is no man who performs ablution and perfects it, then comes to the mosque for no reason other than performing worship, except that he becomes a visitor to Allah, and it is a right upon Allah to honor the visitor.

[Machine] Saad, O Abu Abdullah, what makes you cry? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away while he was pleased with you. You will meet him at the Pond and meet your companions. Salman said, "I have never cried out of fear of death or desire for the world, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrusted us with this saying, 'Let your tongue be the same level of your provision in the Hereafter.'" Saad said, "What is around you is safety, strength, and purity." Saad said, "O Abu Abdullah, make a covenant with us that we will follow after you." He said, "O Saad, remember Allah in times of distress, when you are angry, and when you make a judgment."

[Machine] We were in Constantinople with Muslimah, and the dead bodies passed by them near the majaaneeq (trenches). Muslimah disagreed about them in terms of their colors. So I heard a man repeating, I said, "Why are you repeating? May Allah have mercy on you." He said, "I saw us with Malik ibn Abdullah al-Khath'ami, and a man from the Muslims was injured. His dinner was brought to him, but he did not eat. Then he remained fasting for three days and three nights, grieving for him. Even though I saw the people comforting him, just as a man is comforted by his close friends."
