Importance of expressing your love to others

abudawud:5125 – Muslim b. Ibrāhīm > al-Mubārak b. Faḍālah > Thābit al-Bunānī > Anas b. Mālik

A man was with the Prophet ﷺ and a man passed by him and said: “Messenger of Allah! I love this man.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then asked: “Did you let him know?” He replied: “No.” He said: “˹Then˺ let him know ˹that you love him˺!” He then went to him and said: “I love you for Allah's sake.” He replied: “May He for Whose sake you love me love you!”  

أبو داود:٥١٢٥ – حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ الْبُنَانِيُّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلاً كَانَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَمَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لأُحِبُّ هَذَا. فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «أَعْلَمْتَهُ؟» قَالَ؛ لاَ قَالَ: «أَعْلِمْهُ!» قَالَ فَلَحِقَهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أُحِبُّكَ فِي اللَّهِ فَقَالَ: أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ.

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنِّي أُحِبُّ فُلَانًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتَهُ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَأَخْبِرْهُ قَالَ فَلَقِيَهُ بَعْدُ فَقَالَ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ فِي اللهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ

[Machine] I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man passed by. A man from the people said, "O Messenger of Allah, I love this man." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Have you informed him of that?" The man replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Go and inform him." The man went to him and said, "O so-and-so, by Allah, I truly love you for the sake of Allah." The man replied, "May the one for whom you love me, love you in return."

[Machine] A man passed by the Prophet ﷺ and another man said, "I love him for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Have you informed him of this?" The man replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then inform him." So, I met the man and informed him, and he said, "May Allah love you as you have loved me for His sake."  

الحاكم:٧٣٢١ – أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الدَّقَّاقُ بِهَمْدَانَ ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثَنَا الْمُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

ابن حبّان:٥٧١ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّغُولِيُّ كِتَابَةً قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ بِشْرِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذْ مَرَّ رَجُلٌ فقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ قَالَ «هَلْ أَعْلَمْتَهُ ذَاكَ؟ » قَالَ لَا قَالَ «قُمْ أَعْلِمْهُ» فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ فقَالَ يَا هَذَا وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ قَالَ أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ  

nasai-kubra:9939 – Muḥammad b. ʿUqayl al-Naysābūrī > ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn / Ibn Wāqid from my father > Thābit > Anas b. Mālik

[Machine] I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man passed by. One of the people said, "O Messenger of Allah, I really love this man." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Did you inform him about this?" The person said no. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Go and inform him." So the person went to the man and said, "O so and so, I swear by Allah that I love you." The man replied, "May the one you love, love you in return." Hammad ibn Salamah disputed this hadith.  

الكبرى للنسائي:٩٩٣٩ – أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُقَيْلٍ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ وَاقِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا مَرَّ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ قَالَ «هَلْ أَعْلَمْتَهُ بِذَلِكَ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «قُمْ فَأَعْلِمْهُ» فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا هَذَا وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ قَالَ أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ خَالَفَهُ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ
