A man was with the Prophet ﷺ and a man passed by him and said: “Messenger of Allah! I love this man.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then asked: “Did you let him know?” He replied: “No.” He said: “˹Then˺ let him know ˹that you love him˺!” He then went to him and said: “I love you for Allah's sake.” He replied: “May He for Whose sake you love me love you!”

أَنَّ رَجُلاً كَانَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَمَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لأُحِبُّ هَذَا. فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «أَعْلَمْتَهُ؟» قَالَ؛ لاَ قَالَ: «أَعْلِمْهُ!» قَالَ فَلَحِقَهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أُحِبُّكَ فِي اللَّهِ فَقَالَ: أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ.

[AI] I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man passed by. A man from the people said, "O Messenger of Allah, I love this man." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Have you informed him of that?" The man replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Go and inform him." The man went to him and said, "O so-and-so, by Allah, I truly love you for the sake of Allah." The man replied, "May the one for whom you love me, love you in return."

كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذْ مَرَّ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ قَالَ هَلْ أَعْلَمْتَهُ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَ قُمْ فَأَعْلِمْهُ قَالَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا هَذَا وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ فِي اللهِ قَالَ أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ

[AI] "To the Prophet ﷺ , I said, 'I love so-and-so.' The Prophet ﷺ then asked me, 'Did you inform him?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'Tell him.' So, I met him afterwards and said, 'By Allah! I indeed love you for the sake of Allah.' He then said to me, 'May the one for whose sake you love me, love you too.'"

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنِّي أُحِبُّ فُلَانًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتَهُ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَأَخْبِرْهُ قَالَ فَلَقِيَهُ بَعْدُ فَقَالَ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ فِي اللهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ

[AI] A man passed by the Prophet ﷺ, and there was another man sitting with the Prophet ﷺ. The man said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I love this man for the sake of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Did you inform him about that?" He said, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then get up and tell him so that the love between you may be strengthened." So he stood up and informed him, saying, "I love you for the sake of Allah." The man replied, "May the one whom you love for his sake love you."

مَرَّ رَجُلٌ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَعِنْدَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ جَالِسٌ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّ هَذَا فِي اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرْتَهُ بِذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَ قُمْ فَأَخْبِرْهُ تَثْبُتِ الْمَوَدَّةُ بَيْنَكُمَا فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَقَالَ أَنِّي أُحِبُّكَ فِي اللهِ أَوْ قَالَ أُحِبُّكَ لِلَّهِ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِيأَحْبَبْتَنِي فِيهِ

[AI] A man passed by the Prophet ﷺ and another man said, "I love him for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Have you informed him of this?" The man replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then inform him." So, I met the man and informed him, and he said, "May Allah love you as you have loved me for His sake."

مَرَّ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّهُ فِي اللَّهِ ﷻ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَأَعْلَمْتَهُ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «فَأَعْلِمْهُ» قَالَ فَلَقِيتُ الرَّجُلَ فَأَعْلَمْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَحَبَّكَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ

[AI] I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when a man passed by. A man from the people said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed I love this man." He said, "Have you informed him of that?" The man said, "No." He said, "Then go and inform him." So he stood up and went to him and said, "O so-and-so, by Allah, I truly love you." He replied, "May the one whom you loved me for, love you in return."

[AI] I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man passed by. One of the people said, "O Messenger of Allah, I really love this man." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Did you inform him about this?" The person said no. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Go and inform him." So the person went to the man and said, "O so and so, I swear by Allah that I love you." The man replied, "May the one you love, love you in return." Hammad ibn Salamah disputed this hadith.

كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا مَرَّ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ قَالَ «هَلْ أَعْلَمْتَهُ بِذَلِكَ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «قُمْ فَأَعْلِمْهُ» فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا هَذَا وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكَ قَالَ أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ خَالَفَهُ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ

[AI] Once, there was a man with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . Another man passed by and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I love him for the sake of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Have you informed him about this?" The man replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then go and inform him." So, the man went to him and said, "I love you for the sake of Allah." The other man replied, "May the one you love me for, love you in return." [80] 9941 Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub informed me that Al-Hajjaj narrated to us that Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us from Thabit, who narrated from Habib ibn Abi Subay'ah, who narrated from Al-Harith, who heard this hadith from a man. Abu Abdur-Rahman said, "This is the correct version according to us, and the hadith of Husayn ibn Waqid is incorrect. Hammad ibn Salamah's narration is authenticated, and Allah knows best about the hadith of Thabit from Husayn ibn Waqid."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا كَانَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَمَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أُحِبُّهُ فِي اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَوَمَا أَعْلَمْتَهُ ذَلِكَ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «فَاذْهَبْ إِلَيْهِ فَأَعْلِمْهُ» فَذَهَبَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُحِبُّكَ فِي اللهِ قَالَ أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحْبَبْتَنِي لَهُ [80] 9941 أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي سُبَيْعَةَ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ حَدَّثَهُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهَذَا الصَّوَابُ عِنْدَنَا وَحَدِيثُ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ خَطَأٌ وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَثْبَتُ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ بِحَدِيثِ ثَابِتٍ مِنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ وَاقِدٍ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ

" عن أنسٍ أن رجلًا قالَ: يارسولَ الله إنى أُحِبُّ فلانًا في الله. قالَ: فأخْبرتَهُ؟ قالَ: لا، قال: قم فَأخْبِرْهُ، فلقيه فقالَ: إنى أحِبُّك في الله يا فلان. فقال له: أحَبَّكَ الذِى أحْبَبْتَنِى لَهُ ".

" عَنْ أنَسٍ: أنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَارَسُولَ الله إِنِّى أُحبُّ فُلَانًا فِى الله - ﷻ - قَالَ: فَأَخبَرْتَهُ؟ قَالَ: لاَ، قَالَ: قُمْ فَأَخْبِرْهُ، قَالَ: فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّى أُحِبُّكَ فِى الله يَا فُلاَنُ، فَقَالَ: أَحَبَّك الله الَّذِى أَحْبَبْتَنِى لَهُ ".
