The wife of the Prophet ﷺ : We set out with Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys, and when we were at Baida' or at Dhat-al-Jaish, a necklace of mine was broken (and lost). Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed there to look for it, and so did the people along with him. Neither were they at a place of water, nor did they have any water with them. So the people went to Abu Bakr As-Siddiq and said, "Don't you see what ʿAisha has done? She has made Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people, stay where there is no water and they have no water with them." Abu Bakr came while Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sleeping with his head on my thigh. He said (to me), "You have detained Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people where there is no water, and they have no water with them." So he admonished me and said what Allah wished him to say, and he hit me on my flanks with his hand. Nothing prevented me from moving (because of pain! but the position of Messenger of Allah ﷺ on my thigh. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up when dawn broke and there was no water, so Allah revealed the Verse of Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said, "It is not the first blessing of yours, O the family of Abu Bakr." Then we made the camel on which I was riding, got up, and found the necklace under it.

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ فَقَالُوا أَلاَ تَرَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَبِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي قَدْ نَامَ فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسَ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَعَاتَبَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُنِي بِيَدِهِ فِي خَاصِرَتِي وَلاَ يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلاَّ مَكَانُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَتْ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَإِذَا الْعِقْدُ تَحْتَهُ

We went out with Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys till we reached Al-Baida or Dhatul-Jaish where my necklace got broken (and lost). Messenger of Allah ﷺ stopped to search for it and the people too stopped with him. There was no water at that place and they had no water with them. So they went to Abu Bakr and said, "Don't you see what ʿAisha has done? She has made Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stop where there is no water and they have no water with them. Abu Bakr came while Allah's Apostle was sleeping with his head on my thigh and said, "You detained Allah Apostle and the people where there is no water and they have no water." He then admonished me and said what Allah wished and pinched me at my flanks with his hands, but I did not move because the head of Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on my thigh . Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept on sleeping till be got up in the morning and found no water. Then Allah revealed the Divine Verse of Tayammum, and the people performed Tayammum. Usaid bin AlHudair said. "O family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessings of yours." We urged the camel on which I was sitting to get up from its place and the necklace was found under it.

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَقَالُوا أَلاَ تَرَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَبِالنَّاسِ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي قَدْ نَامَ فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسَ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ قَالَتْ فَعَاتَبَنِي وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُنِي بِيَدِهِ فِي خَاصِرَتِي فَلاَ يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلاَّ مَكَانُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ فَتَيَمَّمُوا فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُضَيْرِ مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَوَجَدْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ

So Allah revealed the Divine Verses of Tayammum. So they all performed Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said, "O the family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessing of yours." Then the camel on which I was riding was caused to move from its place and the necklace was found beneath it.

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ فَقَالُوا أَلاَ تَرَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي قَدْ نَامَ فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسَ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَعَاتَبَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُنِي بِيَدِهِ فِي خَاصِرَتِي فَلاَ يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلاَّ مَكَانُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ فَتَيَمَّمُوا فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُضَيْرِ مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَتْ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَصَبْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ

We went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys and when we reached the place Baida' or Dhat al-jaish, my necklace was broken (and fell somewhere). The Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) along with other people stayed there for searching it. There was neither any water at that place nor was there any water with them (the Companions of the Holy Prophet). Some persons came to my father Abu Bakr and said: Do you see what 'A'isha has done? She has detained the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and persons accompanying him, and there is neither any water here or with them. So Abu Bakr came there and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sleeping with his head on my thigh. He (Abu Bakr) said: You have detained the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and other persons and there is neither water here nor with them. She ('A'isha) said: Abu Bakr scolded me and uttered what Allah wanted him to utter and nudged my hips with his hand. And there was nothing to prevent me from stirring but for the fact that the messenger of Allah ﷺ was lying upon my thigh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept till it was dawn at a waterless place. So Allah revealed the verses pertaining to tayammum and they (the Prophet and his Companions) performed tayammum. Usaid b. al-Hudair who was one of the leaders said: This is not the first of your blessings,0 Family to Abu Bakr. 'A'isha said: We made the came) stand which was my mount and found the necklace under it.

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالُوا أَلاَ تَرَى إِلَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَبِالنَّاسِ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي قَدْ نَامَ فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسَ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ قَالَتْ فَعَاتَبَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُ بِيَدِهِ فِي خَاصِرَتِي فَلاَ يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلاَّ مَكَانُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ فَتَيَمَّمُوا فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُضَيْرِ وَهُوَ أَحَدُ النُّقَبَاءِ مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَوَجَدْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ

"We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys, and when we were in Al-Baida' or Dhat Al-Jaish, a necklace of mine broke and fell. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed there looking for it and the people stayed with him. There was no water near them, and they did not have water with them. The people came to Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and said: 'Do you see what 'Aishah has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stop and they are not near any water and they do not have water with them.' Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, came while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was resting his head on my thigh and had gone to sleep. He said: 'You have detained the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people, and they are not near any water and they do not have any water with them.'" 'Aishah said: "Abu Bakr rebuked me and said whatever Allah willed he would say. He started poking me on my hip, and the only thing that prevented me from moving was the fact that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was resting on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept until morning when he woke up without any water. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime revealed the verse of Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said: 'This is not the first time we have been blessed because of you, O family of Abu Bakr!'" She said: "Then we made the camel that I had been riding stand up, and we found the necklace beneath it."

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ ذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ؓ فَقَالُوا أَلاَ تَرَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَبِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي قَدْ نَامَ فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسَ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَعَاتَبَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُ بِيَدِهِ فِي خَاصِرَتِي فَمَا مَنَعَنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلاَّ مَكَانُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ ﷻ آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَتْ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَوَجَدْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abd arRahman ibn al-Qasim from his father that A'isha umm al-muminin said, "We went out on a journey with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and, when we came to Bayda' or Dhat al-Jaysh, a necklace of mine broke. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stopped to look for it and the people stopped with him. There was no water nearby and the people were not carrying any with them, so they came to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and said, 'Don't you see what A'isha has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stop when there is no water nearby and they are not carrying any with them.' " A'isha continued, "Abu Bakr came and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had fallen asleep with his head on my thigh . Abu Bakr said, 'You have made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stop when there is no water nearby and they are not carrying any with them ' " She continued, "Abu Bakr remonstrated with me and said whatever Allah willed him to say, and began to poke me in the waist. The only thing that stopped me from moving was that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had his head on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept until morning found him with no water. Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, sent down the ayat of tayammum and so they did tayammum. Usayd ibn Hudayr said, 'This is not the first baraka from you, O family of Abu Bakr.'" A'isha added, "We roused the camel I had been on and found the necklace under it." Malik was asked whether a man who did tayammum for one prayer should do tayammum when the time of the next prayer came or whether the first tayammum was enough. He said, "No, he does tayammum for every prayer, because he has to look for water for every prayer. If he looks for it and does not find it then he does tayammum." Malik was asked whether a man who did tayammum could lead others in prayer if they were in wudu. He said, "I prefer that someone else should lead them. However, I see no harm in it if he does lead them in prayer." Yahya said that Malik said that a man who did tayammum because he could not find any water, and then stood and said the takbir and entered into the prayer, and then someone came with some water, did not stop his prayer but completed it with tayammum and did wudu for future prayers. Yahya said that Malik said, "Whoever rises for prayer and does not find water and so does what Allah has ordered him to do of tayammum has obeyed Allah. Someone who does find water is neither purer than him nor more perfect in prayer, because both have been commanded and each does as Allah has commanded. What Allah has commanded as far as wudu is concerned is for the one who finds water, and tayammum is for the one who does not find water before he enters into the prayer." Malik said that a man who was in a state of major ritual impurity could do tayammum and read his portion of Qur'an and do voluntary prayers as long as he did not find any water. This applied only to circumstances in which it was allowable to pray with tayammum.

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ فَقَالُوا أَلاَ تَرَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَبِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي قَدْ نَامَ فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسَ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَعَاتَبَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُ بِيَدِهِ فِي خَاصِرَتِي فَلاَ يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلاَّ مَكَانُ رَأْسِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ فَتَيَمَّمُوا فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَتْ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَوَجَدْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ۔ قَالَ يَحْيَى : سُئِلَ مَالِكٌ عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَيَمَّمَ لِصَلَاةٍ حَضَرَتْ، ثُمَّ حَضَرَتْ صَلَاةٌ أُخْرَى، أَيَتَيَمَّمُ لَهَا أَمْ يَكْفِيهِ تَيَمُّمُهُ ذلِكَ؟ فَقَالَ: بَلْ يَتَيَمَّمُ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ. لِأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَبْتَغِيَ الْمَاءَ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ. فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى الْمَاءَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْهُ، فَإِنَّهُ يَتَيَمَّمُ. قَالَ: وَسُئِلَ مَالِكٌ عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَيَمَّمَ، أَيَؤُمُّ أَصْحَابَهُ وَهُمْ عَلَى وُضُوءٍ؟ قَالَ: يَؤُمُّهُمْ غَيْرُهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ. وَلَوْ أَمَّهُمْ هُوَ لَمْ أَرَ بِذلِكَ بَأْسًا. قَالَ يَحْيَى : قَالَ مَالِكٌ فِي رَجُلٍ تَيَمَّمَ حِينَ لَمْ يَجِدْ مَاءً، فَقَامَ وَكَبَّرَ، وَدَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، فَطَلَعَ عَلَيْهِ إِنْسَانٌ مَعَهُ مَاءٌ؟ قَالَ: لَا يَقْطَعُ صَلَاتَهُ، بَلْ يُتِمُّهَا بِالتَّيَمُّمِ، وَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ لِمَا يُسْتَقْبَلُ مِنَ الصَّلَوَاتِ۔ قَالَ يَحْيَى، قَالَ مَالِكٌ: مَنَ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ، فَلَمْ يَجِدْ مَاءً، فَعَمِلَ بِمَا أَمَرَهُ اللهُ بِهِ مِنَ التَّيَمُّمِ، فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللهَ. وَلَيْسَ الَّذِي وَجَدَ الْمَاءَ بِأَطْهَرَ مِنْهُ، وَلَا أَتَمَّ صَلَاةً. لِأَنَّهُمَا أُمِرَا جَمِيعًا. فَكُلٌّ عَمِلَ بِمَا أَمَرَهُ اللهُ بِهِ. وَإِنَّمَا الْعَمَلُ بِمَا أَمَرَ اللهُ بِهِ مِنَ الْوُضُوءِ، لِمَنْ وَجَدَ الْمَاءَ. وَالتَّيَمُّمِ لِمَنَ لَمْ يَجِدِ الْمَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ.

قَالَ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ مَالِكٌ فِي الرَّجُلِ الْجُنُبِ: إِنَّهُ يَتَيَمَّمُ، وَيَقْرَأُ حِزْبَهُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، وَيَتَنَفَّلُ، مَا لَمْ يَجِدْ مَاءً. وَإِنَّمَا ذلِكَ فِي الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي يَجُوزُ لَهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فِيهِ بِالتَّيَمُّمِ.

"We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys, and when we were in Al-Baida' or Dhat Al-Jaish, a necklace of mine broke and fell. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed there looking for it and the people stayed with him. There was no water near them, and they did not have water with them. The people came to Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and said: 'Do you see what 'Aishah has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stop and they are not near any water and they do not have water with them.' Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, came while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was resting his head on my thigh and had gone to sleep. He said: 'You have detained the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people, and they are not near any water and they do not have any water with them.'" 'Aishah said: "Abu Bakr rebuked me and said whatever Allah willed he would say. He started poking me on my hip, and the only thing that prevented me from moving was the fact that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was resting on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept until morning when he woke up without any water. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime revealed the verse of Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said: 'This is not the first time we have been blessed because of you, O family of Abu Bakr!'" She said: "Then we made the camel that I had been riding stand up, and we found the necklace beneath it." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 310)

[Machine] She said, "We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys until we were in the desert or an area without a water source. Suddenly, my necklace broke and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stopped to search for it, and the people also stopped with him. There was no water with them, and they were not near any water source. Some people approached Abu Bakr As-Siddiq and said, 'Don't you see what Aisha has done? She made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stand, and there is no water with them.' Abu Bakr admonished me and said, 'May Allah never let anyone speak ill of you.' He then started poking me with his hand on my side so much so that it hindered my movement except for the place where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained standing until it was morning and there was still no water. Allah then revealed the verse of Tayammum (dry ablution), and so they performed Tayammum."

We went out with Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys till we reached Al-Baida or Dhatul-Jaish where my necklace got broken (and lost). Messenger of Allah ﷺ stopped to search for it and the people too stopped with him. There was no water at that place and they had no water with them. Abu Bakr came while Allah's Apostle was sleeping with his head on my thigh and said, "You detained Allah Apostle and the people where there is no water and they have no water." He then admonished me and said what Allah wished and pinched me at my flanks with his hands, but I did not move because the head of Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on my thigh . Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept on sleeping till be got up in the morning and found no water. Then Allah revealed the Divine Verse of Tayammum, and the people performed Tayammum. Usaid bin AlHudair said. "O family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessings of yours." We urged the camel on which I was sitting to get up from its place and the necklace was found under it. خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ فَقَالُوا أَلَا تَرَى إِلَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَبِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ نَامَ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسَ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَعَاتَبَنِي وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُ بِيَدِهِ فِي خَاصِرَتِي فَلَا يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلَّا مَكَانُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ {فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا} [النساء 43] فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ مَا هِيَ بِأَوْلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَتْ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَوَجَدْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ

(the wife of the Prophet) We set out with Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys till we reached Al- Baida' or Dhatul-Jaish, a necklace of mine was broken (and lost). Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed there to search for it, and so did the people along with him. There was no water at that place, so the people went to Abu- Bakr As-Siddiq and said, "Don't you see what ʿAisha has done? She has made Allah's Apostle and the people stay where there is no water and they have no water with them." Abu Bakr came while Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sleeping with his head on my thigh, He said, to me: "You have detained Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people where there is no water and they have no water with them. So he admonished me and said what Allah wished him to say and hit me on my flank with his hand. Nothing prevented me from moving (because of pain) but the position of Messenger of Allah ﷺ on my thigh. Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up when dawn broke and there was no water. So Allah revealed the Divine Verses of Tayammum. So they all performed Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said, "O the family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessing of yours." Then the camel on which I was riding was caused to move from its place and the necklace was found beneath it. (Using translation from Bukhārī 334)

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالُوا أَلَا تَرَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ؟ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَبِالنَّاسِ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ ؓ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي قَدْ نَامَ فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسَ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ قَالَتْ فَعَاتَبَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعُنُ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى خَاصِرَتِي فَمَا يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلَّا مْكَانَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ فَتَيَمَّمُوا فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ وَهُوَ أَحَدُ النُّقَبَاءِ مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتِ عَلَيْهِ فَوَجَدْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الْقَعْنَبِيِّ

"خرجنَا مَعَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَعضِ أسْفَارِه حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالبَيْداءِ أو بِذَاتِ الجيشِ انْقَطعَ عِقْدِي، وَأَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى التمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَليْسَ مَعَهم ماء فَأَتى النَّاس إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالُوا: أَلَا تَرىَ مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَة؟ أَقَامَت بالنَّبِي ﷺ وبِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُم مَاء، فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ والنَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخذِي، فَقَالَ حَبَسْت النَّبِي والناس وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ أوْ لَيْسَ مَعَهُم مَاء، فعاتبني وقال لي:

مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَقُول وَجَعَل يطعنني بيده في خاصرتي، فَلَا يَمْنَعُنِي مِنَ التَّحركِ إِلَّا مَكَانُ رَسُول الله ﷺ فَنَامَ عَلَى فَخذِي، حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ عَلى غَير مَاء، فَأَنْزَلَ الله تَعَالَى آية التَّيمم فَتَيَمَّمُوا، فَقَالَ أُسيد بن حُضَيْرٍ: مَا هِي بأُول بَرَكَتِكُم يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، قال: فبَعَثْنَا البَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْت عَلَيْهِ فَوجَدْنَا العقْد تَحْتَهُ".
