if a man becomes the client of any people without the permission of his patrons (i.e. those who have freed him), on him will be the curse of Allah, of angels and of all people; no obligatory or supererogatory worship will be accepted from him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5114)   

وَقَالَ مَنْ تَوَلَّى قَوْمًا بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ مَوَالِيهِ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِوَالْمَلَائِكَةِ لَا يَقْبَلُ اللهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلَا عَدْلًا  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Whoever fears Medina, Allah will fear him. Upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Allah will not accept anything from him, neither charity nor justice."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ أَخَافَ الْمَدِينَةَ أَخَافَهُ اللهُ ﷻ وَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لَا يَقْبَلُ اللهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلَا عَدْلًا  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever fears the people of Medina, Allah will fear him on the Day of Judgment, curse him, be angry with him, and will not accept anything from him, nor will He compensate him."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ أَخَافَ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَخَافَهُ اللهُ ﷻ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَعَنَهُ وَغَضِبَ عَلَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَقْبَلْ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلَا عَدْلًا»  

"مَن غَيَّرَ تُخُومَ الأَرْضِ، فَعَلَيه لَعْنَةُ الله وَغَضَبُه يَوْمَ القيَامَة، لا يَقْبَلُ اللهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلا عَدْلا".  

"مَنْ تَوَلَّى غَيرَ مَوَالِيه فَعَلَيهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ وَغَضَبُهُ لَا يقبلُ اللهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلَا عَدْلًا".  

"مَنْ تَوَلَّى مَولَى قَوْمٍ بِغَيرِ إِذْنِهِم، أَو آوى مُحْدثًا فَعَلَيهِ غَضَبُ اللهِ، لَا يَقْبَلُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلَا عَدْلًا".  

"مَنْ أَخَافَ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَة أَخَافَهُ اللهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيامَة، وَلَعَنَهُ اللهُ وَغَضِبَ عَلَيهِ، وَلَمْ يَقْبَلْ مِنْهُ صرْفًا ولا عَدْلًا".
