[Machine] Translation: Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, also known as Abu Muhammad, was born. His birth, his qualities, and his death are described.

[Machine] I went to Yemen and bought a garment for Dhi Yazan. I gave it as a gift to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during the period between him and the Quraysh. He said, "I do not accept gifts from polytheists." So I took it back and sold it. Then he wore it and went out to his companions, and I have never seen anything better than him wearing it.

[Machine] I asked the Prophet ﷺ and insisted on him. He said, "I do not deny your request, O wise man. Indeed, this wealth is green and sweet, but it is also tainted by the hands of people. Indeed, the hand of Allah is above the hand of the giver, and the hand of the giver is above the hand of the receiver, and the lowest hand is the hand of the receiver."

[Machine] His father wrote a letter to the disbelievers of Quraysh while he was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He had witnessed the Battle of Badr, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Ali and Zubayr and said, "Go until you catch up with a woman who has a book with her, and bring it to me." So they went until they met her and said, "Give us the book that you have, and inform her that we will not leave until we remove every garment from her." She said, "Are you two Muslims?" They said, "Yes, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us that you have a book." When she was convinced that they were not deceiving her, she untied the book from her head and handed it to them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called a scribe, and he read the book to him. Then he asked, "Do you recognize this book?" He said, "Yes." He asked, "What compelled you to do that?" He said, "I have a son and I have relatives, and I was a stranger among the Quraysh." Umar asked for permission to kill the scribe, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ refused, saying, "No, because he witnessed the Battle of Badr. And you do not know, perhaps Allah has looked favorably upon the people of Badr." Then he said, "Do as you please, for I have forgiven you."

[Machine] They said, "Do not hasten until I bring something for you." It is said that Hakim ibn Hizam used to wear clothes that were brought from Egypt, as if they were a shroud worth four dirhams, and he would carry a staff in his hand and bring along his servant. And whenever he passed by a rag or trash, he would see in it a piece of cloth that could be used for the equipment of the camel that he carries in the path of Allah. He would take it with the end of his staff and shake it off, then he would say to his two servants, "Hold on to it, you can make use of it for your equipment." So the two Bedouins said to each other while he was doing this, "Woe to us! By Allah, this is nothing but straw picking!" And his companion said to him, "Woe to you! Do not rush, let us see." So he went out with them until he brought them to the market and looked at two noble, fat, and well-purchased camels, and he purchased them and their equipment. Then he said to his two servants, "Throw these rags to them, it is suitable for their equipment." Then he fed them and provided them with water and fodder, and gave them an allowance. Then he gave them the two camels. One of them said to his companion, "By Allah, I have never seen a better straw picker than him today."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ gave Hakim ibn Hizam an offering on the day of Hunayn, then he increased it. Hakim asked him, "O Messenger of Allah, which of your offerings is better?" He replied, "The first one." The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "O Hakim ibn Hizam, this is a green and sweet plant. Whoever takes it with a generous soul and good eating will be blessed, and whoever takes it with greed and bad eating will not be blessed, and it will be like one who eats but is not satisfied. The upper hand is better than the lower hand." Hakim asked, "And from you, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "And from me." Hakim said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I will never beg from anyone after you." Hakim did not accept any salary or gift until he died. Omar ibn al-Khattab said, "O Allah, I bear witness to You that I call upon Hakim ibn Hizam to take his share of this wealth, but he refuses." Hakim said, "I swear by Allah, I will never give it to you or anyone else." He died in the state he was in, and indeed he was one of the wealthiest Quraysh.

Then I asked him (again), so he gave it to me. Then he said: 'O Hakim! Indeed this wealth is green and sweet, so whoever takes it without asking for it, he will be blessed in it. And the upper hand (giving) is better than the lower hand (receiving)." So Hakim said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! By the One who sent you with the Truth! I shall not ask anyone for anything after you until I depart the world.'"So Abu Bakr used to call Hakim to give him something, but he refused to accept it. Then 'Umar called him to give to him, but he refused to accept it. So 'Umar said: "O you Muslims! I would like you to bear witness that I presented Hakim with his due of these spoils of war but he refused to accept it." So Hakim never asked anyone of the people for anything after the Messenger of Allah, until he died. (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2463)

[Machine] He supported me with two horses on the day of Hunayn, but they were injured. So, he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the horses have been injured, so compensate me." So, he gave him, and he asked for more, so he gave him. Then he asked for more, so he gave him. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, this wealth is green and sweet. Whoever asks people for it, they should give it to him. And the one who asks people for it is like one who eats but never gets full."

That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Both the buyer and the seller retain the option as long as they have not separated. If they spoke the truth and clarified (any defects or conditions), then they would be blessed in their sale, and if they hid something and lied then their sale would be deprived of blessings." And this is a Sahih Hadith. This is how it was reported from Abu Barzah Al-Aslami, that two men came disputing to him after the sale of a horse, and they were on a ship, so he said: "I did not see the two of your separate, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The buyer and the seller retain the choice as long as they did not separate.'" Some of the people of knowledge, among the people of Al-Kufah and others, held the view that the separation refers to speech. This is the saying of [Sufyan] Ath-Thawri. This has been reported from Malik bin Anas, and it has been reported from Ibn al-Mubarak that he said: "How could this be refuted ?" And the Hadith about it from the Prophet ﷺ is Sahih, and it strenghtens this view. And the meaning of the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: "Except for the optional sale" is, that (while they are still together) the seller gives the buyer the option to cancel after the conclusion of the sale. If he chooses to agree to the sale, then he does not have the choice to cancel the sale after then, even if they did not separate. This is how Ash-Shafi'i and others explained it. And what strenghtens the view of those who said that the separation refers to them parting, (and) it does not refer to speech, is the (following) Hadith of 'Abdullah bin 'Amr from the Prophet ﷺ.
