Al-Fadl (his brother) was riding behind Messenger of Allah ﷺ and a woman from the tribe of Khath'am came and Al-Fadl started looking at her and she started looking at him. The Prophet ﷺ turned Al-Fadl's face to the other side. The woman said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The obligation of Hajj enjoined by Allah on His devotees has become due on my father and he is old and weak, and he cannot sit firm on the Mount; may I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes, you may." That happened during the Hajj-al-Wida (of the Prophet ﷺ ).

كَانَ الْفَضْلُ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَثْبُتُ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

Al-Fadl was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ and a woman from the tribe of Khath'am came up. Al-Fadl started looking at her and she looked at him. The Prophet ﷺ turned Al-Fadl's face to the other side. She said, "My father has come under Allah's obligation of performing Hajj but he is a very old man and cannot sit properly on his Mount. Shall I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Prophet ﷺ replied in the affirmative. That happened during Hajjat-al-Wadaʿ of the Prophet ﷺ .

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ عَامَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ

Al Fadl was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ and a woman from the tribe of Khath'am came up. Al Fadl started looking at her and she looked at him. The Prophet ﷺ turned Al-Fadl's face to the other side. She said, "My father has come under Allah's obligation of performing Hajj but he is very old man and cannot sit properly on his Rahila (mount). Shall I perform Hajj on his behalf ? The Prophet ﷺ replied affirmative. That happened during Hajjat-ul-Wada' of the Prophet ﷺ.

كَانَ الْفَضْلُ رَدِيفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَجَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَثْبُتُ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

A woman from the tribe of Khath'am asked for the verdict of Messenger of Allah ﷺ (regarding something) during Hajjat-ul-Wadaʿ while Al-Fadl bin ʿAbbas was the companion-rider behind Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She asked, "Allah's ordained obligation (i.e. compulsory Hajj) enjoined on His slaves has become due on my old father who cannot sit firmly on the riding animal. Will it be sufficient if I perform the Hajj on his behalf?" He said, "Yes."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ

Messenger of Allah, there is an obligation from Allah upon His servants in regard to Hajj. (But) my father is an aged man; he is incapable of riding safely. May I perform Hajj on his behalf? He said: Yes. It was during the Farewell Pilgrimage.

أَنَّهُ قَالَ كَانَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

Messenger of Allah, my father is very old. There is an old obligation of Hajj upon him from Allah, but he is not capable of sitting on the back of the camel. Thereupon Allah's Apostle ﷺ said: Perform Hajj on his behalf.

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ عَلَيْهِ فَرِيضَةُ اللَّهِ فِي الْحَجِّ وَهُوَ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ بَعِيرِهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَحُجِّي عَنْهُ

‘Abd Allah bin Abbas said Al Fadl bin Abbas was riding the Camel behind the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ. A woman of the tribe of Khath’am came seeking his (the Prophet’s) decision (about a problem relating to Hajj). Al Fadl began to look at her and she too began to look at him. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ would turn the face of Fadl to the other side. She said Apostle of Allaah ﷺ Allaah’s commandment that His servants should perform Hajj has come when my father is an old man and is unable to sit firmly on a Camel. May I perform Hajj on his behalf? He said yes, That was at the Farewell Pilgrimage.

كَانَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

a woman from Khath'am asked the Prophet on the morning of the Day of Sacrifice: "O Messenger of Allah! The command of Allah to His slaves to perform Hajj has come, while my father is an old man and cannot sit firmly in the saddle. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: "Yes. "

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ غَدَاةَ جَمْعٍ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَرِيضَةُ اللَّهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَمْسِكُ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ

"Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas was riding behind the Messenger of Allah when a woman from Khath'am came and asked him a question. Al-Fadl started looking at her and she at him, and the Messenger of Allah turned Al-Fadl's face to the other side. She said: 'O Messenger of Allah! The command of Allah has come for His slaves to perform Hajj, but my father is an old man and cannot sit firmly in the saddle; should I perform Hajj on his behalf ?, He said: 'Yes That happened during the Farwell Pilgrimage.''(Shih)

كَانَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ وَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

a woman from Khath'am asked the Messenger of Allah a question during the Farewell Pilgrimage, when Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas was riding behing the Messenger of Allah She said: "O Messenger of Allah! The command of Allah has come for His slaves to perform Hajj, but my father is an old man and cannot sit upright in the saddle. Will it be paid off on his behalf if I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Messenger of Allah said to her: "Yes." And Al-Fadl started to turn toward her, as she was a beautiful woman, but the Messenger of Allah took hold of Al-Fadl's face and turned it to the other side.

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَوِي عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَأَخَذَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَيْهَا وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً حَسْنَاءَ وَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْفَضْلَ فَحَوَّلَ وَجْهَهُ مِنَ الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ

He was riding behind the Messenger of Allah [SAW] on the morning of the Day of Sacrifice, when a woman from Khath'am came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the command of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, to His slaves to perform Hajj has come while my father is an old man and cannot ride unless he is tied crossways on a mount; can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: "Yes, perform Hajj on his behalf, for if he owed a debt you would pay it off for him."

أَنَّهُ كَانَ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ غَدَاةَ النَّحْرِ فَأَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ ﷻ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَرْكَبَ إِلاَّ مُعْتَرِضًا أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ حُجِّي عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ قَضَيْتِيهِ

"A woman from Khath'am asked the Messenger of Allah [SAW] a question when Al-Fadl was riding behind the Messenger of Allah [SAW]. She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the command of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, to His slaves to perform Hajj has come while my father is an old man, he cannot sit upright in the saddle. Will it suffice if I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Yes.'"

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالْفَضْلُ رَدِيفُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ ﷻ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يُجْزِئُ قَالَ مَحْمُودٌ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ لَهَا نَعَمْ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَقَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ فَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِ مَا ذَكَرَ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ

"Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas was riding behind the Messenger of Allah [SAW] when a woman from Khath'am came to ask him a question. Al-Fadl started looking at her, and she at him, and the Messenger of Allah [SAW] turned the face of Al-Fadl the other way. She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the command of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, to His slaves to perform Hajj has come while my father is an old man, and he cannot sit firmly in the saddle; can I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Yes.' That was during the Farewell Pilgrimage."

كَانَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ ﷻ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

A woman from Khath'am said: "O Messenger of Allah, the command of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, to His slaves to perform Hajj has come while my father is an old man, and he cannot sit upright in the saddle. Will it discharge his duty if I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to her: "Yes." يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ ﷻ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَوِي عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَأَخَذَ الْفَضْلُ يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَيْهَا وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً حَسْنَاءَ وَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْفَضْلَ فَحَوَّلَ وَجْهَهُ مِنَ الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ

“O Messenger of Allah, my father is an old man who has become weak, and now the command of Allah has come for His slaves to perform Hajj, but he cannot do it. Will it discharge his duty if I perform it on his behalf?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Yes.”

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ جَاءَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ قَدْ أَفْنَدَ وَأَدْرَكَتْهُ فَرِيضَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ وَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَدَاءَهَا فَهَلْ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ أَنْ أُؤَدِّيَهَا عَنْهُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ

“O Messenger of Allah, the command of Allah has come for His slaves to perform Hajj, but my father is an old man and cannot ride. May I perform Hajj on his behalf?” He said: “Yes, because if your father owed a debt you would pay it off.”

أَنَّهُ كَانَ رِدْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ غَدَاةَ النَّحْرِ فَأَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَرْكَبَ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَإِنَّهُ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَبِيكِ دَيْنٌ قَضَيْتِيهِ

[AI] He was in the company of the Prophet ﷺ during the Farewell Hajj. A woman from Khath'am came and said, "I have fulfilled my obligation to Allah in performing Hajj, but my elderly father cannot ride on his mount and has not performed Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He replied, "Yes." Abu Muhammad asked, "Do you say this?" He replied, "Yes."

أَنَّهُ كَانَ رَدِيفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَمْسِكُ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» سُئِلَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد «تَقُولُ بِهَذَا؟» قَالَ «نَعَمْ»

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed my father has reached the obligation of Allah in Hajj and he is an elderly man who is unable to ride on a mount. So, may I perform the pilgrimage on behalf of my father?"

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي أَدْرَكَتْهُ فَرِيضَةُ اللهِ ﷻ فِي الْحَجِّ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَى دَابَّتِهِ قَالَ فَحُجِّي عَنِ أبِيكِ

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed my father has reached the age where performing the obligation of Hajj has become incumbent upon him, but he is an elderly man who is unable to mount his camel by himself. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?"

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي أَدْرَكَتْهُ فَرِيضَةُ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ بَعِيرِهِ قَالَ فَحُجِّي عَنْهُ

a woman from Khath'am asked the Prophet on the morning of the Day of Sacrifice: "O Messenger of Allah! أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ غَدَاةَ جَمْعٍ وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رِدْفُهُ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَمْسِكَ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ فَهَلْ تَرَى أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

a woman from Khath'am asked the Messenger of Allah a question during the Farewell Pilgrimage, when Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas was riding behing the Messenger of Allah She said: "O Messenger of Allah! The command of Allah has come for His slaves to perform Hajj, but my father is an old man and cannot sit upright in the saddle. Will it be paid off on his behalf if I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Messenger of Allah said to her: "Yes." And Al-Fadl started to turn toward her, as she was a beautiful woman, but the Messenger of Allah took hold of Al-Fadl's face and turned it to the other side. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2642)

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ فَأَخَذَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَيْهَا وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً حَسْنَاءَ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْفَضْلَ فَحَوَّلَ وَجْهَهُ مِنَ الشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ

[AI] A woman from the tribe of Khath'am asked the Prophet ﷺ during the Farewell Hajj, and Al-Fadl bin Abbas, the cousin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, was sitting next to him. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Hajj has befallen upon my father who is an old man and unable to hold onto the reins of the camel. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He replied, "Yes, perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَمْسِكَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ حُجِّي عَنْ أَبِيكِ

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Allah in Hajj has reached her father who is an elderly man, unable to endure the journey. Should she perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said, "Yes."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبَاهَا شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

‘Abd Allah bin Abbas said Al Fadl bin Abbas was riding the Camel behind the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ. A woman of the tribe of Khath’am came seeking his (the Prophet’s) decision (about a problem relating to Hajj). Al Fadl began to look at her and she too began to look at him. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ would turn the face of Fadl to the other side. She said Apostle of Allaah ﷺ Allaah’s commandment that His servants should perform Hajj has come when my father is an old man and is unable to sit firmly on a Camel. May I perform Hajj on his behalf? كَانَ الْفَضْلُ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Sulayman ibn Yasar that Abdullah ibn Abbas said, "Al-Fadl ibn Abbas was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a woman from the Khathama tribe came to him to ask him for a fatwa. Al-Fadl began to look at her, and she at him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned Fadl's face away to the other side. The woman said, 'Messenger of Allah, Allah's making the hajj obligatory finds my father a very old man, unable to stay firm on his riding-beast. Can I do hajj for him?', and he said, 'Yes.' This was during the farewell hajj."

[AI] Narrated by Al-Qa'nabi, who said that Layth bin Sa'd narrated to us, who said that Ibn Shihab narrated to us, who said that Suleiman bin Yasir narrated to us, who said that Ibn Abbas narrated that a woman from the tribe of Kha'thamah said, "O Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Hajj has become obligatory upon my old father, who is unable to ride a mount. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf or pay someone to perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Yes."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ جَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ قَدْ أَفْنَدَ وَأَدْرَكَتْهُ فَرِيضَةُ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَدَاءَهَا هَلْ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ أَنْ أُؤَدِّيَ عَنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ»

[AI] "A woman from the tribe of Khath'am asked the Prophet ﷺ and Al-Fadl was sitting next to him. She said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Hajj has come upon my father, and he is an elderly man. If I support him on his mount, will this count as fulfilling the obligation?' He ﷺ replied, 'Yes, you will fulfill your obligation by performing Hajj on his behalf.'"

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ تَسْتَفْتِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَامَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ فَقَالَتْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يُغْنِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ»

[AI] A woman from the Khath'am tribe consulted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the obligation of Allah in Hajj upon His servants. She mentioned that her elderly father was unable to travel on a riding animal. She asked if she could perform Hajj on his behalf. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Yes."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يُغْنِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ»

[AI] Narrated by the Prophet that a woman from Khath'am asked him a question regarding the Farewell Pilgrimage. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed the obligation of Allah upon His servants in Hajj has reached my elderly father. He is unable to ride on a mount. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He replied, "Yes."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ اسْتَفْتَتْهُ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا «نَعَمْ»

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ هَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed the obligation of Allah in performing Hajj has caught up with my elderly father who is unable to hold onto the mount. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said, "Yes, perform Hajj on behalf of your father."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَمْسِكَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ حُجِّي عَنْ أَبِيكِ»

[AI] "A woman from Kha'thamah asked the Prophet ﷺ one morning after the congregational prayer, she said: 'O Messenger of Allah, is it obligatory for me to perform Hajj on behalf of my elderly father who is unable to travel?' He replied, 'Yes'. It was narrated to us by Sa'id bin 'Abdul Rahman Al-Makki, who said: Sufyan narrated to us from Ibn Tawus from his father from Ibn Abbas with a similar narration."

كَانَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَثْبُتَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

a woman from Khath'am asked the Messenger of Allah a question during the Farewell Pilgrimage, when Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas was riding behing the Messenger of Allah She said: "O Messenger of Allah! The command of Allah has come for His slaves to perform Hajj, but my father is an old man and cannot sit upright in the saddle. Will it be paid off on his behalf if I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Messenger of Allah said to her: "Yes." And Al-Fadl started to turn toward her, as she was a beautiful woman, but the Messenger of Allah took hold of Al-Fadl's face and turned it to the other side. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2642)

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمَ اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَالْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَوِي عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ» فَأَخَذَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَيْهَا وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً حَسْنَاءَ وَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْفَضْلَ فَحَوَّلَ وَجْهَهُ مِنَ الشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ

He was riding behind the Messenger of Allah [SAW] on the morning of the Day of Sacrifice, when a woman from Khath'am came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the command of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, to His slaves to perform Hajj has come while my father is an old man and cannot ride unless he is tied crossways on a mount; can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He said: "Yes, perform Hajj on his behalf, for if he owed a debt you would pay it off for him." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5389)

‘Abd Allah bin Abbas said Al Fadl bin Abbas was riding the Camel behind the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ. A woman of the tribe of Khath’am came seeking his (the Prophet’s) decision (about a problem relating to Hajj). Al Fadl began to look at her and she too began to look at him. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ would turn the face of Fadl to the other side. She said Apostle of Allaah ﷺ Allaah’s commandment that His servants should perform Hajj has come when my father is an old man and is unable to sit firmly on a Camel. May I perform Hajj on his behalf? He said yes, That was at the Farewell Pilgrimage. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1809)

أَنَّهُ قَالَ كَانَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ تَسْتَفْتِيهِ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الْآخَرِ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يثَبُتَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ

[AI] A woman from Khath'am came to consult the Prophet ﷺ during the Farewell Hajj and said, "O Prophet of Allah, the obligation which Allah has placed upon His servants during the Hajj has become too difficult for my father who is an old man and cannot ride on a camel. Can I perform Hajj on his behalf?" He replied, "Yes."

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ تَسْتَفْتِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَامَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ فَقَالَتْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ 8627 وَأَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا ابْنُ رَجَاءٍ وَأَبُو سَلَمَةَ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ فَذَكَرَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed my father is an elderly man who is unable to fulfill the obligation of Allah upon his servants in Hajj. Can I perform it on his behalf?" He said, "Yes." And Ad-Darawardi narrated it from Uthman ibn Umar and said, "Does it suffice for him if I perform it on his behalf?"

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ أَدْرَكَتْهُ فَرِيضَةُ اللهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَدَاءَهَا فَيُجْزِئُ عَنِّي أَنْ أُؤَدِّيَهَا عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَرَوَاهُ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عُمَرَ وَقَالَ فِيهِ فَهَلْ يُجْزِئُ عَنْهُ أَنْ أُؤَدِّيَهَا عَنْهُ

[AI] A woman from the tribe of Khath'am asked the Prophet ﷺ one morning after the congregational prayer, while the reward of the prayer was doubled. She said, "Indeed, the obligation of Allah upon His servants has overtaken my father, who is an elderly man and is unable to mount a riding animal. Do you think it is permissible for me to perform Hajj on his behalf?" He replied, "Yes, it is permissible." Ali ibn al-Madini narrated that Sufyan bin Uyaynah said, "Amr ibn Dinar used to exceed al-Zuhri in this issue before he saw Ibn Shihab (al-Zuhri)." She then asked, "Will that be of any benefit to him?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes, it would be beneficial. Similarly, if there was a debt upon one of you and you paid it off."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَمٍ سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ غَدَاةَ جَمْعٍ وَالْفَضْلُ رَدِيفُهُ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَمْسِكَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ تَرَى أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ وَكَانَ عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ يَزِيدُ فِيهِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرَى ابْنَ شِهَابٍ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيَنْفَعُهُ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ كَذَلِكَ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَى أَحَدِكُمُ الدَّيْنُ فَقَضَيْتُهُ

"عَنْ سُلَيْمَان بن يَسَارٍ أَنْ عَبْدَ الله بْن عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ خَثْعَم اسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاع، وَالْفَضْل بْن عَبَّاسٍ رَدِيفُ رَسُول الله ﷺ فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ الله إِنَّ فَرِيَضةَ الله فِي الْحَجِّ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِي عَلَى الرَّاحِلَة، فَهَلْ يَقْضِي أَنْ أَحُجَ عَنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا رسُول الله ﷺ : نَعَمْ حُجِّي عَنْ أَبِيكِ، أَرَأَيْتِ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ فَقَضَيْتِهِ عَنْهُ أَلا تَرِين أَنَّكَ قَدْ أَدَّيْتِ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَتْ: بَلَي، قَالَ: فَحَقُّ الله أَحَقُّ".
