And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

And what would show you, ˹what would˺ inform you, what the Day of Judgement is?

القرآن:٨٢:١٧ –

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ

{وما أدراك} أعلمك {ما يوم الدين}.

And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?

And how would you know what the Reality is? (˹repeated as˺ an extra emphasis of its enormity; the first mā ˹of the previous verse˺ is the subject, the second one, its predicate; the second mā and its predicate also function as the second direct object of ˹the verb˺ ‘knowing’).

القرآن:٦٩:٣ –

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحَاقَّةُ

{وما أدراك} أعلمك {ما الحاقة} زيادة تعظيم لشأنها، فما الأولى مبتدأ وما بعدها خبره، وما الثانية وخبرها في محل المفعول الثاني لأدرى.

quran:77:14 –

And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?

And how would you know what the Day of Decision is? — emphasising the enormity of its terror.

القرآن:٧٧:١٤ –

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ

{وما أدراك ما يوم الفصل} تهويل لشأنه.

quran:82:18 –

Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

القرآن:٨٢:١٨ –

ثُمَّ مَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ

{ثم ما أدراك ما يومُ الدين} تعظيم لشأنه.

quran:83:19 –

And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun?

and what will tell you, ˹what will˺ inform you, what ‘Illiyyūn is?, what the book of ‘Illiyyūn is.

القرآن:٨٣:١٩ –

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ

{وما أدراك} أعلمك {ما عليون} ما كتاب عليين.

quran:86:2 –

And what can make you know what is the night comer?

And what will tell you what the night-visitor is? (mā’l-tāriq is a subject and predicate, standing as the second object of ˹the verb˺ adrā, ‘tell’; and what comes after the first mā, ‘what’, is the predicate thereof ˹of this first mā˺) — this ˹statement˺ emphasises the magnificence of the ‘night-visitor’, which is explained in what follows. It is:

القرآن:٨٦:٢ –

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ

{وما أدراك} أعلمك {ما الطارق} مبتدأ وخبر في محل المفعول الثاني لأدرى وما بعد الأولى خبرها وفيه تعظيم لشأن الطارق المفسر بما بعده هو.
