The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade eating of onions and leek. When we were overpowered by a desire (to eat) we ate them. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: He who eats of this offensive plant must not approach our mosque, for the angels are harmed by the same things as men.  

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ أَكْلِ الْبَصَلِ وَالْكُرَّاثِ فَغَلَبَتْنَا الْحَاجَةُ فَأَكَلْنَا مِنْهَا فَقَالَ مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ الْمُنْتِنَةِ فَلاَ يَقْرَبَنَّ مَسْجِدَنَا فَإِنَّ الْمَلاَئِكَةَ تَأَذَّى مِمَّا يَتَأَذَّى مِنْهُ الإِنْسُ  

He who eats of this (offensive) plant, i. e garlic, and sometirres he said: He who eats onion and garlic and leek, should not approach our mosque for the angels are harmed by the same things as the children of Adam.  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْبَقْلَةِ الثُّومِ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً مَنْ أَكَلَ الْبَصَلَ وَالثُّومَ وَالْكُرَّاثَ فَلاَ يَقْرَبَنَّ مَسْجِدَنَا فَإِنَّ الْمَلاَئِكَةَ تَتَأَذَّى مِمَّا يَتَأَذَّى مِنْهُ بَنُو آدَمَ  

That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever eats from these - the first time, he said garlic, then he said - garlic, onion, and leek, then let him not approach our Masjid."

[1] In Fath, Al-Bari, Ibn Hajar is of the opinion that it was Ibn Juraij who was talking, explaining that 'Ata' - who reported it from Jabir - narrated it both ways. [Machine] "We used to avoid eating onions and garlic, but our need overpowered us so we ate them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever eats from this tree, let him not approach our mosque, for the angels are harmed by what harms people.'"  

كُنَّا لَا نَأْكُلُ الْبَصَلَ وَالْكُرَّاثَ فَغَلَبَتْنَا الْحَاجَةُ فَأَكَلْنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ الْمُنْتِنَةِ فَلَا يَقْرَبَنَّ مَسْجِدَنَا فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَتَأَذَّى مِمَّا يَتَأَذَّى بِهِ النَّاسُ»

[Machine] "Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ, he said: 'Whoever eats from this garlic tree, then says afterwards 'and onions and leeks,' let them not come near our mosque, for the angels are harmed by what harms humans.' This is the saying of Abu Abdullah."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ الثُّومِ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعْدُ الثُّومِ وَالْبَصَلِ وَالْكُرَّاثِ فَلَا يَقْرَبْنَا فِي مَسْجِدِنَا فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَتَأَذَّى مِمَّا يَتَأَذَّى مِنْهُ الْإِنْسَانُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ

"مَنْ أَكَلَ مِن هَذِه الشَّجرَةِ (الخَبِيثةِ) فَلَا يَقْربَنَّ مَسْجِدَنا فَإِنَّ المَلائِكَةَ تَتَأَذَّى مِمَّا يَتَأَذَّى مِنْه الإِنْسُ".  

"مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْ هَذِه الْبَقلةِ الثَّوم وَالبَصَل والْكُرَّاث فَلَا يَقْرَبنا في مَساجِدنَا، فَإِنَّ الْمَلائِكَة تَتَأَذَّى مِمَّا يَتَأَذَى مِنْه بَنُو آدَمَ".  

"مَن أكَلَ مِنْ هَذِه الشَّجَرةِ الْخَبِيثَةِ -يَعْني: الثَّومَ- فَلَا يَقْربَنَّ الْمَسْجِد فَإِنَّ الْمَلائكَة تَتَأَذَّى مِمَّا يَتَأذَّى مِنْه ابنُ آدَمَ".  

"مَنْ أَكَلَ مِن خُضَرِكُم (*) هَذِه شَيئًا، فَلَا يَقْرَبَنَّ مَسْجِدَنَا، فَإِنَّ الملائِكَةَ تَتَأَذَى مِمَّا يَتَأذى مِنْه بَنُو آدَمَ".
