The Prophet ﷺ said, "The deceased is tortured in his grave for the wailing done over him." Narrated Shu'ba: The deceased is tortured for the wailing of the living ones over him .  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِمَا نِيحَ عَلَيْهِ  

The dead is punished in the grave because of wailing on it.  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِمَا نِيحَ عَلَيْهِ  

The same hadith is narrated on the authority of 'Umar through another chain of transmitters.  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِمَا نِيحَ عَلَيْهِ  

ʿThe deceased is tormented in his grave because of being wailed over.ʿ Al-Hajjaj said: ʿ...because of the wailing over him.ʿ  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِمَا نِيحَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ حَجَّاجٌ بِالنِّيَاحَةِ عَلَيْهِ  

ʿThe deceased is tormented in his grave because of the wailing over him.”  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِمَا نِيحَ عَلَيْهِ  

“The deceased is tormented in his grave because of the wailing over him.ʿ  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِالنِّيَاحَةِ عَلَيْهِ  

The Prophet ﷺ said: ʿThe deceased is tormented in his grave because of the wailing for him.ʿ  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِالنِّيَاحَةِ عَلَيْهِ  

"Sulaiman bin Surad said to Khalid bin Urfutah - or, Khalid said to Sulaiman - 'Did you hear the Messenger of Allah saying: "Whoever is killed by his stomach then he will not be punished in the grave"?' One of them said to the other: "Yes." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1064)   

سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ قَتَلَهُ بَطْنُهُ لَمْ يُعَذَّبْ فِي قَبْرِهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ  

"Sulaiman bin Surad said to Khalid bin Urfutah - or, Khalid said to Sulaiman - 'Did you hear the Messenger of Allah saying: "Whoever is killed by his stomach then he will not be punished in the grave"?' One of them said to the other: "Yes." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1064)   

سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ يَقْتُلُهُ بَطْنُهُ لَمْ يُعَذَّبْ فِي قَبْرِهِ»  

"I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'The deceased is punished in his grave due to the wailing over him."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1853)  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِالنِّيَاحَةِ عَلَيْهِ»  

"الميِّتُ يعذَّبُ في قبرهِ بما نيحِ عليه ".  

"الميِّتُ يعذَّب في قبرِهِ بالنياحةِ عليه ".  

"الميِّتُ يعذَّبُ في قبره ما نيح عليه ".  

“The deceased is tormented in his grave because of the wailing over him.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 180)   

"إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُعَذَّبُ بالنِّيَاحَةِ عَلَيْهِ فِى قَبْرِهِ".  

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The deceased is tortured in his grave for the wailing done over him." Narrated Shu'ba: The deceased is tortured for the wailing of the living ones over him . (Using translation from Bukhārī 1292)   

"إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ يُعذَّبُ في قَبْرهِ بما نِيحَ عليه".
