ʿThe deceased is tormented in his grave because of being wailed over.ʿ Al-Hajjaj said: ʿ...because of the wailing over him.ʿ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The deceased is tortured in his grave for the wailing done over him." Narrated Shu'ba: The deceased is tortured for the wailing of the living ones over him .

The dead is punished in the grave because of wailing on it.  

مسلم:٩٢٧b – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ عُمَرَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَيِّتُ يُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهِ بِمَا نِيحَ عَلَيْهِ

"I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'The deceased is punished in his grave due to the wailing over him."'

الكبرى للنسائي:١٩٩٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ عُمَرَ قَالَ
