[Machine] "If you were to see me, Qutham and 'Ubaidullah ibn 'Abbas, we were children playing when the Prophet ﷺ passed by on an animal. He said, 'Lift this up to me.' So, I carried him in front of him, and he said to Qutham, 'Lift this up to me.' So, he placed him behind him. And 'Ubaidullah was more beloved to 'Abbas than Qutham. So, he felt shy of his uncle and carried Qutham instead. He then wiped his hand over my head three times and said, 'Whenever Allah wipes, let Ja'far be the successor in his child.' I said to 'Abdullah, 'What happened to Qutham?' He said, 'He was martyred.' I said, 'Allah knows best about the good, and His Messenger knows best about the good.' He said, 'Yes.'"  

لَوْ رَأَيْتَنِي وَقُثَمَ وَعُبَيْدَ اللهِ ابْنَيْ عَبَّاسٍوَنَحْنُ صِبْيَانٌ نَلْعَبُ إِذْ مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى دَابَّةٍ فَقَالَ ارْفَعُوا هَذَا إِلَيَّ قَالَ فَحَمَلَنِي أَمَامَهُ وَقَالَ لِقُثَمَ ارْفَعُوا هَذَا إِلَيَّ فَجَعَلَهُ وَرَاءَهُ وَكَانَ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ أَحَبَّ إِلَى عَبَّاسٍ مِنْ قُثَمَ فَمَا اسْتَحَى مِنْ عَمِّهِ أَنْ حَمَلَ قُثَمَ وَتَرَكَهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى رَأْسِي ثَلاثًا وَقَالَ كُلَّمَا مَسَحَ اللهُمَّ اخْلُفْ جَعْفَرًا فِي وَلَدِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ مَا فَعَلَ قُثَمُ؟ قَالَ اسْتُشْهِدَ قَالَ قُلْتُ اللهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالْخَيْرِ وَرَسُولُهُ بِالْخَيْرِ قَالَ أَجَلْ  

[Machine] "If you had seen me, Ubaidah and Qutham playing, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by us and said, 'Bring this to me.' So he carried me in front of him and said to Qutham, 'Bring this to me.' And he placed him behind him and supplicated for us. Ubaidah was more beloved to Abbas than Qutham, to the extent that he felt shy of his uncle. So I said, 'What happened to Qutham?' He said, 'He was martyred.' I said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best about matters.'"  

لَوْ رَأَيْتُنِي وَعُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ وَقُثَمَ وَنَحْنُ نَلْعَبُ إِذْ مَرَّ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «ارْفَعُوا هَذَا إِلَيَّ» فَحَمَلَنِي أَمَامَهُ وَقَالَ لِقُثَمَ «ارْفَعُوا هَذَا إِلَيَّ» فَجَعَلَهُ وَرَاءَهُ فَدَعَا لَنَا وَكَانَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ أَحَبَّ إِلَى عَبَّاسٍ مِنْ قُثَمَ مَا اسْتُحْيِيَ مِنْ عَمِّهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ مَا فَعَلَ قُثَمُ؟ قَالَ اسْتُشْهِدَ قَالَ قُلْتُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالْخَيْرَةِ  

[Machine] "If you had seen me, Qatham and Ubaidullah ibn Abbas playing when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by on a mount, and he said, 'Bring this to me.' He made me stand in front of him, and then he said to Qatham, 'Bring this to me.' He made him stand behind him. Abbas, his uncle, was too shy to carry Qatham, so he left him and wiped my head three times. When he finished wiping, he said, 'O Allah, replace Jafar with him in his offspring.' I asked Abdullah ibn Jafar, 'What happened to Qatham?' He said, 'He was martyred.' I said to Abdullah, 'Allah and His Messenger knew better about his news.' He said, 'Yes.'"  

لَوْ رَأَيْتَنِي وَقُثَمَ وَعُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الْعَبَّاسِ نَلْعَبُ إِذْ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى دَابَّةٍ فَقَالَ «احْمِلُوا هَذَا إِلَيَّ» فَجَعَلَنِي أَمَامَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِقُثَمَ «احْمِلُوا هَذَا إِلَيَّ» فَجَعَلَهُ وَرَاءَهُ مَا اسْتَحْيَا مِنْ عَمِّهِ الْعَبَّاسِ أَنْ حَمَلَ قُثَمَ وَتَرَكَ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِي ثَلَاثًا فَلَمَّا مَسَحَ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ اخْلُفْ جَعْفَرًا فِي وَلَدِهِ» قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ مَا فَعَلَ قُثَمُ؟ قَالَ اسْتُشْهِدَ قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ كَانَ أَعْلَمَ بِخَبَرِهِ قَالَ أَجَلْ  

[Machine] I was playing with Qutham and Ubaidullah when the Prophet ﷺ came and said, "Carry this." Then he said, "Carry this." Qutham carried it behind him without feeling ashamed before his uncle Abbas. And Ubaidullah was more beloved to Abbas than Qutham, so he wiped his head three times and said, "O Allah, make Jafar succeed in his offspring." I asked, "What happened to Qutham?" He said, "He was martyred." I said, "Allah and His Messenger knew best." He said, "Indeed."  

كُنْتُ أَنَا وَقُثَمُ وَعُبَيْدُ اللهِ نَلْعَبُ فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «احْمِلْ هَذَا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «احْمِلْ هَذَا» فَحَمَلَ قُثَمُ خَلْفَهُ وَلَمْ يَسْتَحِي مِنْ عَمِّهِ الْعَبَّاسِ وَكَانَ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ أَحَبَّ إِلَى الْعَبَّاسِ مِنْ قُثَمَ وَمَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ وَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ اخْلُفْ جَعْفَرًا فِي وَلَدِهِ» قُلْتُ مَا فَعَلَ قُثَمُ؟ قَالَ اسْتُشْهِدَ قُلْتُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ كَانَ أَعْلَمَ بِالْخِيَرَةِ قَالَ أَجَلْ  

[Machine] If you had seen me, Qutham, and Ubaydullah ibn al-Abbas playing when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by on a mount, he said, "Bring this to me." He placed me in front of him and then said to Qutham, "Bring this to me." He placed him behind him. Al-Abbas did not hesitate to carry Qutham while leaving Ubaydullah. Then he wiped my head three times, and every time he wiped, he said, "O Allah, provide Ja'far with a successor through his child." I asked Abdullah ibn Ja'far, "What did Qutham do?" He said, "He was martyred." I said to Abdullah, "Allah and His Messenger knew best about what is right." He said, "Yes."  

لَوْ رَأَيْتَنِي وَقُثَمَ وَعُبَيْدَ اللهِ ابْنَيِ الْعَبَّاسِ نَلْعَبُ إِذْ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى دَابَّةٍ فَقَالَ احْمِلُوا هَذَا إِلَيَّ فَجَعَلَنِي أَمَامَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِقُثَمَ احْمِلُوا هَذَا إِلَيَّ فَجَعَلَهُ وَرَاءَهُ مَا اسْتَحْيَا مِنْ عَمِّهِ الْعَبَّاسِ أَنْ حَمَلَ قُثَمَ وَتَرَكَ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِي ثَلَاثًا كُلَّمَا مَسَحَ قَالَ اللهُمَّ اخْلُفْ جَعْفَرًا فِي وَلَدِهِ قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ مَا فَعَلَ قُثَمُ؟ قَالَ اسْتُشْهِدَ قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ كَانَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْخِيَرَةِ قَالَ أَجَلْ  

"عَنْ عَبْد اللهِ بْن جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: لَوْ رَأَيْتَنِى وَقُثَمًا وَعُبيد اللهِ (ابْنَىْ) (*) عَبَّاسٍ، وَنَحْنُ صبْيَانٌ نَلْعَبُ، إِذْ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى دَابَّةٍ فَقَالَ: ارْفَعُوا هَذَا إِلَىَّ فَجَعَلَنِى أَمَامَهُ، وَقَالَ لِقُثَمٍ: ارْفَعُوا هَذَا إِلَىَّ فَجَعَلَهُ وَرَاءَهُ، وَكَانَ عَبْدُ الله أَحَبَّ إِلَى عَبَّاسٍ منْ قُثَمٍ، فَمَا اسْتَحْيَا منْ عَمِّه أَنْ حَمَلَ قُثَمًا وَتَرَكَهُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى رَأسِى (ثَلاثَا) كُلَّما مَسَحَ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ اخْلُفْ جَعْفَرًا فِى وَلَدِه".
