he attributed this to the Prophet ﷺ: He was asked which prayer is best after the obligatory prayers and which fasting is best after the month of Ramadan? He said: (1) The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the one offered in the middle of the night, and (2) the best fast after the month of Ramadan is the fast in the Month of Allah: al-Muharram.

سُئِلَ أَىُّ الصَّلاَةِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ وَأَىُّ الصِّيَامِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ أَفْضَلُ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلاَةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ الصَّلاَةُ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ وَأَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ صِيَامُ شَهْرِ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: The most excellent fast after Ramadan is Allah's month al-Muharram, and the most excellent prayer after the prescribed prayer is the prayer during night.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ وَإِنَّ أَفْضَلَ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الْمَفْرُوضَةِ صَلاَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ لَمْ يَقُلْ قُتَيْبَةُ شَهْرِ قَالَ رَمَضَانَ

Messenger of Allah (S) said: "The most virtuous fasting after the month of Ramadan is that of Allah's month of Al-Muharram. And the most virtuous Salat after the obligatory is the night prayer."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ وَأَفْضَلُ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ وَبِلاَلٍ وَأَبِي أُمَامَةَ

the Messenger of Allah said: "The most virtuous fasting after the month of Ramadan is Allah's month Al-Muharram."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ صِيَامِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The best fasting after the month of Ramadan is the month of Allah, Al-Muharram, and the best prayer is prayer at night.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ وَأَفْضَلُ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ

He heard Humaid bin 'Abdur-Rahman say: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The best prayer after the obligatory (fard) prayers is prayer at night and the best fasting after the month of Ramadan is Al-Muharram.'" Shu'bah bin Al-Hajjaj narrated it in Mursal form.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَفْضَلُ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ قِيَامُ اللَّيْلِ وَأَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ الْمُحَرَّمُ أَرْسَلَهُ شُعْبَةُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ

“A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘Which fasting is better after the month of Ramadan?’ He said: ‘The month of Allah which is called Muharram.’”

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَىُّ الصِّيَامِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ قَالَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الَّذِي تَدْعُونَهُ الْمُحَرَّمَ

“A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘Which fasting is better after the month of Ramadan?’ He said: ‘The month of Allah which is called Muharram.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1742)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الَّذِي تَدْعُونَهُ الْمُحَرَّمَ»

[AI] Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ said, "The best fasting after the month of Ramadan is the month of Muharram."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ الْمُحَرَّمُ»

[AI] On the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: It was narrated to the Prophet ﷺ that he was asked, "Which prayer is best after the obligatory prayers?" And, "Which fasting is best after the month of Ramadan?" He replied, "The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the prayer in the middle of the night. And the best fasting after the month of Ramadan is the fasting in the month of Allah, Muharram."

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ يَرْفَعْهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ أَيُّ الصَّلَاةِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ؟ وَأَيُّ الصِّيَامِ أَفْضَلُ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ؟ فَقَالَ «أَفْضَلُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ الصَّلَاةُ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ وَأَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ»

[AI] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ which prayer is best after the obligatory prayers. He said, "Prayer during the middle of the night." He then asked, "Which fasting is best after the month of Ramadan?" He said, "The month of Allah which they call Muharram."

«أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ»

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ»

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet, ﷺ , he said: "One of the best prayers after the obligatory prayers is the prayer in the depths of the night. And indeed, the best fasting after the month of Ramadan is the fasting in the month of Allah that you call Al-Muharram." Ahmad ibn Al-Hasan Al-Qadi narrated to us, Hajib ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Mu'adh Al-Marwuzi narrated to us, Zakariya ibn Adi narrated to us, and he mentioned it.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مِنْ أَفْضَلِ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْمَفْرُوضَةِ الصَّلَاةُ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ وَإِنَّ أَفْضَلَ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللهِ الَّذِي تَدْعُونَهُ الْمُحَرَّمَ أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي أنبأ حَاجِبُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْمَرُّوذِيُّ ثنا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ عَدِيٍّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو فَذَكَرَهُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: The most excellent fast after Ramadan is Allah's month al-Muharram, and the most excellent prayer after the prescribed prayer is the prayer during night. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2429)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ وَإِنَّ أَفْضَلَ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْمَفْرُوضَةِ صَلَاةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ لَمْ يَقُلْ قُتَيْبَةُ شَهْرُ قَالَ رَمَضَانُ

"أفْضَلُ الصَّلاةِ بعد الفريضَةِ: قيامُ اللَّيلِ".

"إِنَّ أَفضَل الصلاةِ بعد الفريضة الصلاةُ في جوف الَّليلِ، وإِنَّ أَفضَل الصِّيامِ بعد شَهرِ رمضانَ الشَّهرُ الذى تدعُونه الْمُحَرَّم".
