ذِكْرُ نَفْيِ دُخُولِ الْجَنَّةِ عَنِ الْإِمَامِ الْغَاشِّ لِرَعِيَّتِهِ فِيمَا يَتَقَلَّدُ مِنْ أُمُورِهِمْ

ibnhibban:4495Aḥmad b. ʿAlī b. al-Muthanná > Shaybān b. Abū Shaybah > Abū al-Ashhab Jaʿfar b. Ḥayyān al-ʿUṭāridī > al-Ḥasan

Ubaidullah b Ziyad visited Ma'qil b. Yasir al-Muzani in his last iliness. Ma'qil said (to him): I am narrating to you a tradition I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If I knew that I am to survive this illness. I would, not narrate it to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: If God appointed anyone ruler over a people and he died while he was still treacherous to his people, God would forbid his entry into Paradise. (Using translation from Muslim 142e)

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If any ruler having the authority to rule Muslim subjects dies while he is deceiving them, Allah will forbid Paradise for him."

'Ubaidullah b. Ziyad paid a visit to Ma'qil b. Yasar Muzani in his illness of which he (later on) died. (At this juncture) Ma'qil said: I am going to narrate to you a hadith which I have heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and which I would not have transmitted if I knew that I would survive. Verily I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: There is none amongst the bondsmen who was entrusted with the affairs of his subjects and he died in such a state that he was dishonest in his dealings with those over whom he ruled that the Paradise is not forbidden for him.

[Machine] Indeed, I will tell you a story that I have not told you before. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Allah does not entrust a servant with the care of people, and then he dies on the day he dies while deceitful to them, except that Allah has forbidden Paradise for him."

[Machine] Fortress, I inform you of a statement that I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If I knew I had any more life, I would not tell you something I heard him say: "There is no servant whom Allah has made responsible for a group of people, and then he dies deceiving them, except that Allah has forbidden Paradise for him." And the wording is by Ali bin Al-Ja'd.

The listener said, 'Why didn't you inform me about this hadith before today?' He replied, 'If it were not for what is in me, I would not have told you.'"
