13. Book of Fasting (4/6)
ʿUmar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said "No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Messenger of Allah ﷺ kissing you I would not have kissed you." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1597)
[Machine] "I used to worship him, so if there was something in the house, I would send it to him. And when there was a day with good milk, I would send it to him, and they had a disagreement among the Quraysh when they wanted to place it, to the point that it almost led to a fight with swords among them. So he said, let the first man to enter from the door decide. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered and they said, this is the trustworthy one, and they used to call him the trustworthy in the era of ignorance. So they said, O Muhammad, we are pleased with you. So he called for a garment, spread it out, and placed the stone on it, then he said, each tribe should hold a corner of the garment except for him, because he is the one who should place it. Then they did so, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it and placed it with his own hand."
[Machine] When Uthman was killed, the people were extremely alarmed on that day. The sword of peace among us was greatly shaken. I sat in my house when a need arose for me in the market, so I went out. Then, in the shade of the palace, I saw a group of about forty men sitting. There was a chain hung on the door. I wanted to enter, but the gatekeeper stopped me. The people said, "Let him in," so I entered. Then, the leaders of the people and their faces appeared. A beautiful man came in without a shirt or turban and sat down. It was Ali bin Abi Talib. Then he said, "When Ibrahim wanted to build the Kaaba, he faced a difficulty and did not know what to do. Allah sent tranquility, which was a pleasant breeze. He used it as a foundation and built upon it every day. Makkah was extremely hot. When he reached the place of the stone, he told Ismail to go and search for a stone and put it here. Ismail went to search for it and Jibril came with the stone and placed it. Ismail asked, 'Who brought this? From where is this stone brought?' He said, 'This is brought by the one who does not depend on my building and your building.' So, he built it. Then it was demolished by the giants, then they built it. Then it was demolished by a flood and they rebuilt it. When Quraysh wanted to put the stone, they argued about its placement. The first one who exits from this door will place it." So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ exited from the side of Banu Shaybah, ordered a cloth to be spread, and placed the stone in the middle of it. Then, he ordered a man from each tribe of Quraysh to hold a corner of the cloth, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it with his own hands and placed it. The scholars have agreed on narrating this long hadith from Ayoub Al-Sakhtiani and Kathir bin Kathir from Sa'eed bin Jubayr from Ibn Abbas about the story of building the Kaaba. This incident is different from the others.

The Prophet said: "Stoning the Jimari and Sa'i between As-Safa and Al-Marwah are only done for the establishment of Allah's remembrance." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 902)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Circumambulating the Ka'bah is a form of worship, except that Allah has permitted you to speak during it. So, whoever speaks, let them only speak good."
the Prophet said: "Tawaf around the House is similar to Salat except that you talk during it. So whoever talks in it, then let him not say but good." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 960)
[Machine] "Because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ circumambulated the Kaaba from behind it," Allah, the Most Blessed and Exalted, said, "And let them go around the ancient House" (Surah Al-Hajj, 22:29).
[Machine] He informed him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the Kaaba and saw a man leading another man with a belt around his nose. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cut the belt with his hand and then ordered him to lead him by his hand. It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who was circumambulating (tawaf) while holding onto a walking stick, or a leg, or a thread, or something else. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cut it and said, "Hold onto it with your hand." Ibn Jurayj said: Sulayman al-Ahwal informed me of this hadith, and Tawus also informed him that Ibn Abbas said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every path and valley in Makkah is a sacred site."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever performs Hajj from Makkah on foot and returns to Makkah, Allah will write for him for every step seven hundred good deeds. Each good deed is equivalent to the good deeds of the Sacred Mosque." It was asked, "What are the good deeds of the Sacred Mosque?" He said, "Each good deed is equivalent to a hundred thousand good deeds."
[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would be one day before the pilgrimage season, he would address the people and inform them about their rituals."
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ performed five prayers in Mina."
[Machine] That the imam should pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, the last Fajr prayer in Mina, then proceed to Arafah and face the direction where he had completed his obligations. When the sun sets, he should address the people, then pray Dhuhr and Asr together. Then he should stand in Arafah until the sun disappears. After that, he should proceed to Muzdalifah and pray there or wherever Allah has ordained. Then he should stand in congregation until dawn and depart before sunrise. When he throws the Jamrat al-Aqaba, everything that is prohibited for him becomes permissible except women and perfume, until he visits the House.
[Machine] Did people not know, or did they forget? And the one who sent Muhammad ﷺ with the truth, "I certainly went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Mina to Arafah, and he did not abandon performing the circumambulation (tawaf) until he cast the pebbles at the Jamarat, except that he mixed it with takbeer or tahleel."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Raise those who are suffering from hunger and distance yourselves from those who overeat."
[Machine] "Regarding the 'urunat', it means to not stand on one leg. As for the statement 'an muhassir', it means descending in a group except if they descend individually."
“We were standing in a place that was far from the place of standing. Ibn Mirba’ came to us and said: ‘I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to you. He said: “Stay where you are today for today you are on the legacy of Ibrahim.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3011)
"I came to the Prophet in Jam (Al-Muzdalifah) and said: 'Is there Hajj for me?' He said: 'Whoever offers this prayer with us and observed this standing until he departed, and he departed before that from Arafat by night or by day, then his Hajj is complete. And he has completed the prescribed duties.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3042)
I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the place of halting, that is, al-Muzdalifah. I said: I have come from the mountains of Tayy. I fatigued my mount and fatigued myself. By Allah, I found no hill (on my way) but I halted there. Have I completed my hajj? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Anyone who offers this prayer along with us and comes over to Arafat before it by night or day will complete his hajj and he may wash away the dirt (of his body). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1950)
[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in a specific place, so I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I came from Jabal Tayyi', wearing out my mount and exhausting myself. By Allah, there is not a single mountain among those mountains that I did not stand upon." He said, "Whoever reaches this prayer with us, meaning the Fajr prayer, and has already come to 'Arafah, whether at night or during the day, then he has completed his Hajj and fulfilled its obligations." And Urwah ibn Al-Mudarris continued in narrating this tradition from the companions, specifically from 'Abdullah ibn Ya'mar Al-Dawli.
"I saw the prophet in Arafat when some people from Najd coame to him. They told a man to ask him about Hajj. He said: "Hajj is Arafat. Whoever comes on the night of Jam (Al-Muzdalifah) before Subh prayer, then he has caought up with Hajj. And the days of Mina are three days. But whoever hastens to leave in two days, there is no sion on him, and whoever stays on, there is no sino on him.' Then he made a man ride behind him, and he started proclaiming it to the people." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3044)
[Machine] The Quraysh used to only go from Muzdalifah and say, "We are exempt from leaving the sanctuary," even though they had left the standing place in Arafat. He ﷺ said, "So I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Jahiliyyah standing with the people in Arafat on a camel he had. Then he would spend the morning with his people in Muzdalifah, standing with them and pushing when they pushed."
There is no day when God sets free more servants from Hell than the Day of 'Arafa. He draws near, then praises them to the angels, saying: What do these want? (Using translation from Muslim 1348)
[Machine] "To me, Sir, what is wrong with people that I do not hear them respond?" So I said, "They fear Muawiyah." Then Ibn Abbas came out of his tent and said, "Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Indeed, they have abandoned the Sunnah out of hatred for Ali."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood at Arafat, and when he said "Labbaik Allahumma labbaik", he said, "Verily, the best is the good of the Hereafter." Al-Bukhari narrated this with the chain of Ikrima, and Muslim narrated it with the chain of Dawud. This hadith is authentic and they both did not exclude it.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Verily, Allah takes pride in the people of Arafat - the people of the heavens - and He says to them: Look at my servants who have come to me with disheveled hair and covered in dust."
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ recited it when he left from Arafat and he recited it with tranquility." And he said: "O People, upon you is tranquility." And he said: "Righteousness is not determined by the raising of horses and camels." And I did not see a camel raising its hand until it reached Mina."
[Machine] "The Bedouins were the ones who used to camp on the outskirts of people's settlements. They would tie their camels and lean their sticks, and when they dismount, they would make a clattering sound, causing people to scatter. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and even the hooves of his she-camel did not touch the ground as it walked. He used to say, 'O people, maintain tranquility!'"
"Ibn Abbas said: "On the morning of Al-Aqabah, while he was on his mount, the Messenger of Allah said to me: "Pick up (some pebbles) for me." So I picked up some pebbles for him that were the size of date stones or fingertips, and when I placed them in his hand he said: "Like these. And beware of going to extremes in religious matters, for those who came before you were destroyed because of going to extremes in religious matters." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3057)
[Machine] Abu Ali Al-Hanafi and Abu Aasim Al-Nabeel said that Ayman Ibn Nabil said: I heard Qudamah Ibn Abdullah Ibn Ammar Al-Kalabi saying, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stoning the Jamrah on the day of sacrifice while riding a white camel, without striking or driving the camel forcefully."
Reason for the stoning of the Jamarat as a rite of Hajj
"When Ibrahim, the beloved friend of Allah, performed the rituals, Satan appeared to him at the Jamrat al-'Aqabah and threw stones at him seven times until he sank into the ground. Then he appeared to him at the second Jamrah and threw stones at him seven times until he sank into the ground. Then he appeared to him at the third Jamrah and threw stones at him seven times until he sank into the ground."
[Machine] Ibn Abbas said, "You are stoning the Shaytan and boasting about the faith of your father."
‘I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, should we not build you a house in Mina?’ He said: ‘No, Mina is just a stopping place for those who get there first.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3006)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave as a gift a camel to Abu Jahl with a silver helmet on its head, in order to provoke the polytheists with it."
The Prophet ﷺ sacrificed two horned rams which were white with black markings and had been castrated. When he made them face the qiblah, he said: I have turned my face towards Him. Who created the heavens and the earth, following Abraham's religion, the true in faith, and I am not one of the polytheists. My prayer, and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death are all for Allah, the Lord of the Universe, Who has no partner. That is what I was commanded to do, and I am one of the Muslims. O Allah it comes from Thee and is given to Thee from Muhammad and his people. In the name of Allah, and Allah is Most Great. He then made sacrifice. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2795)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slaughtered a cow on behalf of all his wives who had performed ‘Umrah, during the Farewell Pilgrimage.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3133)
"I said to Al-Bara bin Azib: 'Tell me of the sacrificial animals that the Messenger of Allah dislike or forbade. He said: "The Messenger of Allah gestured like this with his hand, and my hands are shorter than the hand of the Messenger of Allah, (and he said). 'There are four that will not do as sacrifices: The animal that clearly has one bad eye: the sick animals that is obviously sick; the lame animal with an obvious lamp; and the animal that is so emaciated that it is as if there is no marrow in its bones: He said: "And I dislike that the animal should have some fault in its horns or ears." He said: "What you dislike, forget about it, and do not make it forbidden to anyone." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4370)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to check the eyes and ears [when selecting an animal for sacrifice] (Using translation from Aḥmad 732)

[Machine] "O Abu Al-Walid, indeed we left early in the morning to search for the remnants of the fallen prey, but we could hardly find anything to be gathered except that I found a fat thigh. Utbah said, "Why did you not bring it to us?" So, he invoked, "O Allah, forgive me for surpassing you while you do not surpass me." He said, "Yes." He said, "Why is that?" He said, "You doubt, while I do not doubt." Then, Utbah brought out his hand and said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade five things: the hunted animal with severed horns, the hunted bird with severed wings, the drowned fish, the dead mouse, and the broken egg." He said, "And the hunted animal with severed horns is the one whose horn is cut, the hunted bird with severed wings is the one whose wings are cut, the drowned fish is the one whose eyes are white, the dead mouse has visible traces of death, and the broken egg is the empty one or the one inhabited by illness that does not follow the flock."

The Prophet ﷺ sent Umm Salamah on the night before the day of sacrifice and she threw pebbles at the jamrah before dawn. She hastened (to Mecca) and performed the circumambulation. That day was the one the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spent with her. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1942)

Al Hajjaj bin ‘Amr Al Ansari reported the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ as saying “ If anyone breaks (a bone or leg) or becomes lame, he has come out of the sacred state and must perform Hajj the following year.” ‘Ikrimah said I asked Ibn ‘Abbas and Abu Hurairah about this. They replied He spoke the truth. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1862)
