13. Book of Fasting (3/6)
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ recited it when he left from Arafat and he recited it with tranquility." And he said: "O People, upon you is tranquility." And he said: "Righteousness is not determined by the raising of horses and camels." And I did not see a camel raising its hand until it reached Mina."
[Machine] "The Bedouins were the ones who used to camp on the outskirts of people's settlements. They would tie their camels and lean their sticks, and when they dismount, they would make a clattering sound, causing people to scatter. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and even the hooves of his she-camel did not touch the ground as it walked. He used to say, 'O people, maintain tranquility!'"
"Ibn Abbas said: "On the morning of Al-Aqabah, while he was on his mount, the Messenger of Allah said to me: "Pick up (some pebbles) for me." So I picked up some pebbles for him that were the size of date stones or fingertips, and when I placed them in his hand he said: "Like these. And beware of going to extremes in religious matters, for those who came before you were destroyed because of going to extremes in religious matters." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3057)
[Machine] Abu Ali Al-Hanafi and Abu Aasim Al-Nabeel said that Ayman Ibn Nabil said: I heard Qudamah Ibn Abdullah Ibn Ammar Al-Kalabi saying, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stoning the Jamrah on the day of sacrifice while riding a white camel, without striking or driving the camel forcefully."
Reason for the stoning of the Jamarat as a rite of Hajj
"When Ibrahim, the beloved friend of Allah, performed the rituals, Satan appeared to him at the Jamrat al-'Aqabah and threw stones at him seven times until he sank into the ground. Then he appeared to him at the second Jamrah and threw stones at him seven times until he sank into the ground. Then he appeared to him at the third Jamrah and threw stones at him seven times until he sank into the ground."
[Machine] Ibn Abbas said, "You are stoning the Shaytan and boasting about the faith of your father."
‘I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, should we not build you a house in Mina?’ He said: ‘No, Mina is just a stopping place for those who get there first.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3006)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave as a gift a camel to Abu Jahl with a silver helmet on its head, in order to provoke the polytheists with it."
The Prophet ﷺ sacrificed two horned rams which were white with black markings and had been castrated. When he made them face the qiblah, he said: I have turned my face towards Him. Who created the heavens and the earth, following Abraham's religion, the true in faith, and I am not one of the polytheists. My prayer, and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death are all for Allah, the Lord of the Universe, Who has no partner. That is what I was commanded to do, and I am one of the Muslims. O Allah it comes from Thee and is given to Thee from Muhammad and his people. In the name of Allah, and Allah is Most Great. He then made sacrifice. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2795)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slaughtered a cow on behalf of all his wives who had performed ‘Umrah, during the Farewell Pilgrimage.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3133)
"I said to Al-Bara bin Azib: 'Tell me of the sacrificial animals that the Messenger of Allah dislike or forbade. He said: "The Messenger of Allah gestured like this with his hand, and my hands are shorter than the hand of the Messenger of Allah, (and he said). 'There are four that will not do as sacrifices: The animal that clearly has one bad eye: the sick animals that is obviously sick; the lame animal with an obvious lamp; and the animal that is so emaciated that it is as if there is no marrow in its bones: He said: "And I dislike that the animal should have some fault in its horns or ears." He said: "What you dislike, forget about it, and do not make it forbidden to anyone." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4370)
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited that an animal with a A'dab (stump) horn or ear should be slaughtered as a sacrifice." Qatadah (one of the narrators) said: "So I mentioned this to Sa'eed bin Al-Musayyab and he said: 'The A'dab is that which equals or more than that.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1504)
" The Messenger of Allah commanded us to examine the eyes and ears (of animals for sacrifice)." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4376)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to check the eyes and ears [when selecting an animal for sacrifice] (Using translation from Aḥmad 732)
[Machine] "O Abu Al-Walid, indeed we left early in the morning to search for the remnants of the fallen prey, but we could hardly find anything to be gathered except that I found a fat thigh. Utbah said, "Why did you not bring it to us?" So, he invoked, "O Allah, forgive me for surpassing you while you do not surpass me." He said, "Yes." He said, "Why is that?" He said, "You doubt, while I do not doubt." Then, Utbah brought out his hand and said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade five things: the hunted animal with severed horns, the hunted bird with severed wings, the drowned fish, the dead mouse, and the broken egg." He said, "And the hunted animal with severed horns is the one whose horn is cut, the hunted bird with severed wings is the one whose wings are cut, the drowned fish is the one whose eyes are white, the dead mouse has visible traces of death, and the broken egg is the empty one or the one inhabited by illness that does not follow the flock."

The Prophet ﷺ sent Umm Salamah on the night before the day of sacrifice and she threw pebbles at the jamrah before dawn. She hastened (to Mecca) and performed the circumambulation. That day was the one the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spent with her. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1942)
[Machine] "If any of you go out, the last place of his vow should be the House (Kaaba), except for the menstruation. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ allowed it for them."
Al Hajjaj bin ‘Amr Al Ansari reported the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ as saying “ If anyone breaks (a bone or leg) or becomes lame, he has come out of the sacred state and must perform Hajj the following year.” ‘Ikrimah said I asked Ibn ‘Abbas and Abu Hurairah about this. They replied He spoke the truth. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1862)
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ performed two Hajj, one before his migration (to Medina), and one after he migrated, during which he also performed Umrah."
[Machine] It says, "Indeed, Al-Aqra bin Habis asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ if Hajj is obligatory every year. He replied, 'No, rather it is obligatory once, and if I had said yes, it would have become obligatory, and if it had become obligatory, you would not have been able to afford it or bear it.'"
Allah, Most High, has decreed Hajj for you. Al-Aqra' bin Habis At-Tamimi said: "Every year, O Messenger of Allah?" But he remained silent, then he said: "If I said yes, it would become obligatory, then you would not hear and obey. Rather it is just one Hajj." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2620)
[Machine] "Hajj and Umrah are obligatory for all people except the people of Makkah. For them, their Umrah is their Tawaf (circumambulation), so they should leave for Tan'eem and then enter it (the Masjid al-Haram). By Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never entered it except for Hajj or Umrah."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Hajj and Umrah are obligatory acts of worship, and it does not harm you which of them you start with." And it is confirmed from Zaid ibn Thabit that he said.
[Machine] "Two prayers, whichever of the two you start with will not harm you."
[Machine] Abdullah bin Umar used to say, "There is not a person among Allah's creation except that upon him is an obligatory Hajj and Umrah, for those who are able to do so. Whoever does more than that, it is better and considered voluntary."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to her during her pilgrimage, "You will receive reward according to the effort and the expenses you incurred."
[Machine] The translation of the provided Arabic sentence into English is: "The Prophet ﷺ said to her during her pilgrimage, 'Your reward for the pilgrimage is based on the extent of your spending.'"
[Machine] Ali and Uthman performed Hajj. When they were on the way, Uthman prohibited himself from performing Umrah before Hajj. It was said to Ali that he prohibited them from performing Umrah, so Ali said, "If you see him depart, then depart." So Ali and his companions performed Umrah without being prohibited by Uthman. Ali said, "Did I not inform you that he prohibits performing Umrah?" Uthman replied, "Yes." Ali then said, "Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, permitting it?" Uthman replied, "Yes."
“Labbaika bi-‘Umratin wa hajjatin [Here I am (O Allah), for ‘Umrah and Hajj].” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2969)
[Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ combined Hajj and Umrah because he knew that he would not perform Hajj again after that.
“I was sitting with Ibn ‘Abbas, and a man came to him and he said: ‘Where have you come from?’ He said: ‘From Zamzam.’ He said: ‘Did you drink from it as you should?’ He said: ‘How is that?’ He said: ‘When you drink from it, turn to face the Qiblah and mention the name of Allah, drink three draughts and drink your fill of it. When you have finished, then praise Allah.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The sign (that differentiates) between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink their fill from Zamzam.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3061)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The water of Zamzam is for whatever purpose it is drunk for. If you drink it to alleviate illness, Allah will heal you, and if you drink it seeking refuge, Allah will protect you, and if you drink it to quench your thirst, Allah will satisfy it." Ibn Abbas used to say when he drank the water of Zamzam, "O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and healing from all ailments."
"I heard Abu Umamah saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah giving a Khutbah during the Farewell Hajj, and he said: 'Have Taqwa of your Lord, and pray your five (prayers), and fast your month, and pay the Zakat on your wealth, and obey thosewho are in charge of you, you will enter the Paradise of your Lord.'" He said: "I said to Abu Umamah: 'How old were you when you heard this Hadith (from the Messenger of Allah)?' He said: 'I heard it when I was thirty years old.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 616)

[Machine] The number of people in the camp became numerous, so we went out as pilgrims, until there was no time for us to do anything other than a few nights. We were commanded to enter the state of Ihram, so one of us would go to Arafat, and his semen would drip. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed of this, so he stood and delivered a sermon, saying, "By Allah, you people should teach me! For I am the one who knows Allah the best among you and fears Him the most. If I have known that I will face what you are facing now, I would have prepared better. I have not brought the sacrificial animals with me and I have not still made my sacrificial rites. So whoever does not have an animal for sacrifice, let him fast for three days during Hajj and seven days after returning home. And whoever finds an animal, let him sacrifice it. We used to sacrifice the jazoor for seven people."

So, he drank from that water and then went to the Zamzam (well) and there the people were offering water to the others and working at it (drawing water from the well). The Prophet ﷺ then said to them, "Carry on! You are doing a good deed." Then he said, "Were I not afraid that other people would compete with you (in drawing water from Zamzam), I would certainly take the rope and put it over this (i.e. his shoulder) (to draw water)." On saying that the Prophet ﷺ pointed to his shoulder. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1635)
