Allah, the brother of Abu Al-Qu'ais asked my permission to enter after the verses of Al-Hijab (veiling the ladies) was revealed, and I said, "By Allah, I will not admit him unless I take permission of Allah's Apostle for it was not the brother of Al-Qu'ais who had suckled me, but it was the wife of Al-Qu'ais, who had suckled me." Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me, and I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The man has not nursed me but his wife has nursed me." He said, "Admit him because he is your uncle (not from blood relation, but because you have been nursed by his wife), Taribat Yaminuki." ʿUrwa said, "Because of this reason, ' Aisha used to say: Foster suckling relations render all those things (marriages etc.) illegal which are illegal because of the corresponding blood relations." Aflah, the brother of Abi Al-Quʿais, asked permission to visit me after the order of Al-Hijab was revealed. I said, "I will not permit him unless I take permission of the Prophet ﷺ about him for it was not the brother of Abi Al-Quʿais but the wife of Abi Al-Quʿais that nursed me." The Prophet ﷺ entered upon me, and I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Aflah, the brother of Abi Al-Quʿais asked permission to visit me but I refused to permit him unless I took your permission." The Prophet ﷺ said, "What stopped you from permitting him? He is your uncle." I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The man was not the person who had nursed me, but the woman, the wife of Abi Al-Quʿais had nursed me." He said, "Admit him, for he is your uncle. Taribat Yaminuki (may your right hand be saved)" ʿUrwa, the sub-narrator added: For that ʿAisha used to say, "Consider those things which are illegal because of blood relations as illegal because of the corresponding foster relations."

By Allah, I would not permit Aflah unless I have solicited the opinion of Messenger of Allah ﷺ for Abu Qulais has not suckled me, but his wife has given me suck. 'A'isha' (Allah be pleased with her) said: When Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered, I said: Messenger of Allah, Aflah is the brother of Abu'l-Qulais; he came to me to seek my permission for entering (the houst). I did not like the idea of granting him permission until I had solicited your opinion. Thereupon Allah's Apostle ﷺ said: Grant him permission. 'Urwa said it was on account of this that 'A'isha used to say. What is unlawful by reason of consanguinity is unlawful by reason of fosterage.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that A'isha, umm al-muminin said, "My paternal uncle by suckling came to me and I refused to give him permission to enter until I had asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and I asked him about it. He said, 'He is your paternal uncle, so give him permission.' So I said, 'Messenger of Allah! The woman nursed me not the man.' He said, 'He is your paternal uncle, so let him enter.' " A'isha said, "That was after the veil had been imposed on us." A'isha added, "What is haram by birth is made haram by suckling."

[Machine] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, informed him that her maternal uncle, Abu Al-Qa'is, had come to visit her. Abu Al-Qa'is had breastfed Aisha when she was a baby. He sought permission to enter, but she refused to grant him permission until she mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, my maternal uncle, Abu Al-Qa'is, who breastfed me, has come to seek permission to enter upon me, but I did not grant him permission." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Why would you not grant permission to your uncle?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, it was not him who breastfed me, but his wife." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Allow him to enter when he comes to you, for he is your uncle."

[Machine] The brother of my father's uncle came to seek permission from her after the veil was struck, but she refused to give him permission until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and she sought his permission. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came, she mentioned that to him. He said, "Did your uncle not come?" She said, "The woman breastfed me and the man did not breastfeed me." He said, "He is your uncle, so let him enter upon you." Aisha considered breastfeeding to establish the relationship similar to that established by birth. They both reported it in Sahih from the Hadith of Hisham bin 'Urwah.
