Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The (Hell) Fire complained to its Lord saying, 'O my Lord! My different parts eat up each other.' So, He allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in summer, and this is the reason for the severe heat and the bitter cold you find (in weather).

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَقَالَتْ رَبِّ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَأَذِنَ لَهَا بِنَفَسَيْنِ نَفَسٍ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَنَفَسٍ فِي الصَّيْفِ فَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ فِي الْحَرِّ وَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الزَّمْهَرِيرِ

[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "When the heat becomes intense, delay the prayer until it is cooler, for the intensity of heat is from the raging heat of Jahannam. The Fire complained to its Lord and said: O Lord, one part of me has consumed another. So He permitted it two breaths: a breath in the winter and a breath in the summer. That is the most intense heat you experience, and the most intense bitter cold you experience."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاَةِ؛ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ، وَاشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَبِّ، أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا، فَأَذِنَ لَهَا بِنَفَسَيْنِ: نَفَسٍ فِي الشِّتَاءِ، وَنَفَسٍ فِي الصَّيْفِ، فَهُوَ أَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْحَرِّ، وَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الزَّمْهَرِيرِ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The Fire made a complaint before the Lord saying." O Lord, some parts of mine have consumed the others." So it was allowed to take two exhalations, one exhalation in winter and the other exhalation in summer. That is why you find extreme heat (in summer) and extreme cold (in winter).

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَبِّ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَأَذِنَ لَهَا بِنَفَسَيْنِ نَفَسٍ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَنَفَسٍ فِي الصَّيْفِ فَهُوَ أَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْحَرِّ وَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الزَّمْهَرِيرِ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Fire complained to its Lord. It said: 'Some parts of me consume other parts.' So He allowed it to take two breaths: one during the winter, and during the summer. As for the breath in the winter then it is Zamharir, and as for the breath in the summer then it is Samum. Other chains report similar narrations.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا وَقَالَتْ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَجَعَلَ لَهَا نَفَسَيْنِ نَفَسًا فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَنَفَسًا فِي الصَّيْفِ فَأَمَّا نَفَسُهَا فِي الشِّتَاءِ فَزَمْهَرِيرٌ وَأَمَّا نَفَسُهَا فِي الصَّيْفِ فَسَمُومٌ

“The Fire complained to its Lord and said: ‘O Lord, parts of me have consumed other parts.’ So He gave it two occasions to exhale, one in winter and one in summer. The intense cold that you feel (in winter) is part of its severe frost (Zamharir) and the intense heat that you feel in summer is part of its hot wind (Samum).”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَبِّ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَجَعَلَ لَهَا نَفَسَيْنِ نَفَسٌ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَنَفَسٌ فِي الصَّيْفِ فَشِدَّةُ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْبَرْدِ مِنْ زَمْهَرِيرِهَا وَشِدَّةُ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ سَمُومِهَا

[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , the fire complained to its Lord, saying, "O Lord, parts of me consumed one another, so grant me relief." And the Lord granted it permission to breathe twice every year. So the coldest you will find is the freezing cold of the winter winds of Hellfire, and the hottest you will find is the burning heat of the Hellfire.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَقَالَتْ رَبِّ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَنَفِّسْنِي فَأَذِنَ لَهَا فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ بِنَفَسَيْنِ فَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْبَرْدِ مِنْ زَمْهَرِيرِ جَهَنَّمَ وَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ حَرِّ جَهَنَّمَ

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: The Fire complained to its Lord, saying, "O Lord, some parts of me are consuming others." So, Allah allowed it to have two breaths, a breath in the winter and a breath in the summer. The hottest of what can be found is the wind of Hellfire.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The fire complained to its Lord and said, 'Some parts of me consume other parts.' So, Allah allowed it two breaths: one breath is the hottest heat you feel, and the other breath is the coldest cold you feel."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا ﷻ فَقَالَتْ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَأَذِنَ لَهَا بِنَفَسَيْنِ فَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ حَرِّهَا وَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْبَرْدِ زَمْهَرِيرُهَا

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The Fire made a complaint before the Lord saying." O Lord, some parts of mine have consumed the others." قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَقَالَتْ يا رَبِّ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَأَذِنَ الله تبارك وتعالى لَهَا بِنَفَسَيْنِ نَفَسٍ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَنَفَسٍ فِي الصَّيْفِ فَهُوَ أَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْحَرِّ وَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الزَّمْهَرِيرِ

“The Fire complained to its Lord and said: ‘O Lord, parts of me have consumed other parts.’ So He gave it two occasions to exhale, one in winter and one in summer. عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَبِّ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَنَفِّسْنِي فَجَعَلَ لَهَا فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ نَفَسَيْنِ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ فَشِدَّةُ الْبَرْدِ الَّذِي تَجِدُونَ مِنْ زَمْهَرِيرِهَا وَشِدَّةُ الْحَرِّ الَّذِي تَجِدُونَ مِنْ حُرِّ جَهَنَّمَ»

The Prophet ﷺ said, "In very hot weather delay the Zuhr prayer till it becomes (a bit) cooler because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire. The Hell-fire of Hell complained to its Lord saying: O Lord! My parts are eating (destroying) one another. So Allah allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in the summer. The breath in the summer is at the time when you feel the severest heat and the breath in the winter is at the time when you feel the severest cold." (Using translation from Bukhārī 536)

اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اشتكت النار إلى ربها فقالت أكل بعضي بعضا فجعل لها نفسين نفسا في الشتاء ونفسا في الصيف فشدة الحر من حرورها وشدة البرد من زمهريرهاوهذا الحديثُ عن عاصم لاَ نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ إلاَّ حمَّاد بْنُ سَلَمة

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم شكت النار إلى ربها فقالت يا رب أكل بعضي بعضا فأذن لها بنفسين نفس في الشتاء ونفس في الصيف فأشد ما كان من الحر من فيح جهنم وأشد ما كان من الزمهرير من برد جهنم

"اشْتَكَتِ النَّارُ إلى ربِّها، وقالتْ: أكلَ بَعْضي بَعضًا؛ فَجَعَل لها نَفَسَين: نفسًا في الشتاءِ، ونَفَسًا في الصَّيفِ، فأمَّا نَفَسُها في الشتاءِ فَزَمْهَرِيرٌ، وأمَّا نفسُها في الصَّيفِ فَسَمومٌ".
