We were in the company of the Prophet ﷺ in a funeral procession at Baqi Al-Gharqad. He said, "There is none of you but has his place written for him in Paradise or in the Hell- Fire." They said, "O Allah's Apostle! Shall we depend (on this fact and give up work)?" He said, "Carry on doing (good deeds), for every body will find it easy to do (what will lead him to his destined place)." Then he recited: 'As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah, and believes in the Best reward from Allah (i.e. Allah will compensate him for what he will spend in Allah's way). So, We will make smooth for him the path of ease. But he who is a greedy miser....for him, the path for evil.' (92.5-10)

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي بَقِيعِ الْغَرْقَدِ فِي جَنَازَةٍ فَقَالَ مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلاَّ وَقَدْ كُتِبَ مَقْعَدُهُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَمَقْعَدُهُ مِنَ النَّارِ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَفَلاَ نَتَّكِلُ فَقَالَ اعْمَلُوا فَكُلٌّ مُيَسَّرٌ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَى وَاتَّقَى * وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَى} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {لِلْعُسْرَى}

There is not one amongst you who has not been allotted his seat in Paradise or Hell. They said: Messenger of Allah. then, why should we perform good deeds, why not depend upon our destiny? Thereupon he said. No, do perform good deeds, for everyone is facilitated in that for which he has been created; then he recited this verse:" Then, who gives to the needy and guards against evil and accepts the excellent (the truth of Islam and the path of righteousness it prescribes), We shall make easy for him the easy end..." (xcii. 5-10).

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ جَالِسًا وَفِي يَدِهِ عُودٌ يَنْكُتُ بِهِ فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ إِلاَّ وَقَدْ عُلِمَ مَنْزِلُهَا مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَلِمَ نَعْمَلُ أَفَلاَ نَتَّكِلُ قَالَ لاَ اعْمَلُوا فَكُلٌّ مُيَسَّرٌ لِمَا خُلِقَ لَهُ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ { فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَى وَاتَّقَى * وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَى} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ { فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَى}

"We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ and he had a stick in his hand. He scratched in the ground with it, then raised his head and said: 'There is no one among you but his place in Paradise or Hell has already been decreed.' He was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not then rely upon that?' He said: 'No, strive and do not rely upon that, for it will be made easy for each person to do that for which he was created.' Then he recited: "As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, and believes in Al-Husna. We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. And denies Al-Husna. We will make smooth for him the path for evil. "

One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting with a stick in his hand, with which he was hitting the ground. He raised his head and said: ʿThere is no soul among you but his place in Paradise or Hell is known.” They said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, why should we strive? He said: ʿKeep striving for everyone will be helped to do that for which he was created. As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him. And believes in Al-Husna. Al-Husna: The Best (i.e. either la ilaha illallah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) or a reward from Allah (i.e. Allah will compensate him for what he will spend in Allahʿs way or bless him with Paradise) We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, And belies Al-Husna, We will make smooth for him the path for evil, [al-Lail 92:5-10].ʿ

ʿAli ؓ took me by the hand and we set out walking until we sat down on the banks of the Euphrates ʿAli ؓ said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿThere is no living soul but Allah has already decreed whether it is doomed or blessed.ʿ A man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, why should we strive? He said: ʿStrive, for each person will be helped to do that for which he was created.” Then he recited this verse: ʿAs for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him. "مَا مِنْ نَفْسٍ مَنْفُوسَة اليومَ إلا وَقَدْ كَتَبَ الله مَكَانَهَا مِن الْجَنَّةِ والنَّارِ، وإلَّا وَقدْ كُتبتْ شَقِيَّةً أَوْ سَعِيدَةً، قِيل: أَفَلا نَتَّكِل؟ قَال: لَا، اعْمَلُوا ولَا تَتَّكِلُوا، فَكُلٌّ مُيَسَّرٌ لِمَا خُلِقَ لَهُ، أَمَّا أَهْل السَّعَادَةِ فَيُيَسَّرُونَ لَعَملِ السَّعَادَةِ، وَأَمَّا أَهْلُ الشَّقَاوَةِ فَيُيَسَّروُنَ لِعَمَلِ الشَّقَاوَةِ، ثمَّ قَرأَ {فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَى وَاتَّقَى, وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَى} الآية".
