[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, tell us about our religion as if we were created solely for it. In what do we exert our efforts? Is it in something predetermined and decreed, or in something we initiate? He ﷺ replied, 'Rather, it is in that which is predetermined and decreed.' Suraaqah said, 'Then what is the point of our actions, O Messenger of Allah?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'Work, for every worker will be facilitated for that which he was created for.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited this verse, 'So as for he who gives and fears Allah, and believes in the best [reward], We will ease him toward ease. But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need and denies the best [reward], We will ease him toward difficulty.' He said, 'There is no deity except Allah.' He said, 'We will ease him toward difficulty.'"

ʿAli ؓ took me by the hand and we set out walking until we sat down on the banks of the Euphrates ʿAli ؓ said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿThere is no living soul but Allah has already decreed whether it is doomed or blessed.ʿ A man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, why should we strive? He said: ʿStrive, for each person will be helped to do that for which he was created.” Then he recited this verse: ʿAs for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him. And believes in Al-Husna, We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, and belies Al-Husna, We will make smooth for him the path for evilʿ [Al-Lail 92:5–10]. Al-Husna: The Best (i.e. either La ilaha illAllah : none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) or a reward from Allah (i.e. Allah will compensate him for what he will spend in Allahʿs way or bless him with Paradise) [Footnote from Hilali/Khan Translation of the Meanings]
