قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَوْ قِيلَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُنَاسًا يَرْمُونَ الْجَمْرَةَ مِنْ فَوْقِ الْعَقَبَةِ قَالَ فَرَمَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِي وَقَالَ هَكَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ رَمَاهَا الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ

By him, besides Whom there is no other god, that is the place (of flinging stones) of one upon whom Surah al-Baqara was revealed (the Holy Prophet).
رَمَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِي بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ قَالَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّ أُنَاسًا يَرْمُونَهَا مِنْ فَوْقِهَا فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَقَامُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
I heard Hajjaj b. Yusuf saying as he was delivering sermon on the pulpit: Observe the order of the (Holy) Qur'an which has been observed by Gabriel. (Thus state the surahs in this manner)" one in which mention has been made of al-Baqara,"" one in which mention has been made of women (Surah al-Nisa')" and then the surah in which mention has been made of the Family of 'Imrin. He (the (narrator) said: I met Ibrahim and informed him about these words of his (the statement of Hajjaj b. Yusuf). He cursed him and said: Abd al-Rahman b. Yazid has narrated to me that when he was in the company of 'Abdullah b. Mas'udd (Allah be pleased with them) he came to Jamrat al-'Aqaba and then entered the heart of the valley and faced towards it (the Jamra) and then flung seven pebbles at it from the heart of the valley pronouncing Takbir with every pebble. I said: Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, people fling pebbles at it (Jamra) from the upper side, whereupon he said: By Him besides Whom there is no god, that is the place (of flinging pebbles of one) upon whom Surah al-Baqara was revealed;
أَلِّفُوا الْقُرْآنَ كَمَا أَلَّفَهُ جِبْرِيلُ السُّورَةُ الَّتِي يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا الْبَقَرَةُ وَالسُّورَةُ الَّتِي يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا النِّسَاءُ وَالسُّورَةُ الَّتِي يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا آلُ عِمْرَانَ قَالَ فَلَقِيتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِقَوْلِهِ فَسَبَّهُ وَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَأَتَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ فَاسْتَبْطَنَ الْوَادِيَ فَاسْتَعْرَضَهَا فَرَمَاهَا مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِي بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَرْمُونَهَا مِنْ فَوْقِهَا فَقَالَ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَقَامُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
It was said to 'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with bird) that people threw pebbles at the Jamra from the upper side of 'Aqaba, whereas he threw stones at it from the heart of the valley, whereupon he said: By Him besides Whom there is no god, it is at this very place that one upon whom was revealed Surah al-Baqara threw stones at it.

"It was said to Abdullah bin Masud that some people were stoning the Jamart from above al-Aqabah." He said: "So Abdullah stoned it from the bottom of the valley, then he said: 'From here - by the One beside Whom there is no other God - did the one to whom surat Al-Baqarah was revealed, stone it."
إِنَّ نَاسًا يَرْمُونَ الْجَمْرَةَ مِنْ فَوْقِ الْعَقَبَةِ قَالَ فَرَمَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِي ثُمَّ قَالَ مِنْ هَا هُنَا وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ رَمَى الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
"I sqa Ibn Masud stone Jamratul 'Aqabah from the bottom of the valley, then he said: ;This - by the One beside Whom there is no other God-is the place where the one to whom Surat Al-Baqarah was revealed stood."'
رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِي ثُمَّ قَالَ هَا هُنَا وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَقَامُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
“When ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud stoned ‘Aqabah Pillar, he went to the bottom of the valley and turned to face the Ka’bah, with the Pillar on his right hand side. Then he threw seven pebbles, saying the Takbir with each one. Then he said: ‘From here, by the One besides Whom there is none worthy of worship, did the one throw, to whom Surat Al-Baqarah was revealed.’”
لَمَّا أَتَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ اسْتَبْطَنَ الْوَادِيَ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْكَعْبَةَ وَجَعَلَ الْجَمْرَةَ عَلَى حَاجِبِهِ الأَيْمَنِ ثُمَّ رَمَى بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ مِنْ هَاهُنَا وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ رَمَى الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
"I saw Ibn Masud stone Jamratul 'Aqabah from the bottom of the valley, then he said: This - by the One besides Whom there is no other God-is the place where the one to whom Surat Al-Baqarah was revealed stood."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3072)

[AI] Abdullah was throwing the Pebbles from the Mas'ila, so I said, "Are you throwing it from here?" He replied, "Yes, by the One besides whom there is no god, I am throwing it from here, the same place where the Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed to him."
كَانَ عَبْدُ اللهِ يَرْمِي الْجَمْرَةَ مِنَ الْمَسِيلِ فَقُلْتُ أَمِنْ هَاهُنَا تَرْمِيهَا؟ فَقَالَ مِنْ هَاهُنَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ رَمَاهَا الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
[AI] He performed Hajj with Abdullah, then he stoned the Jamrat al-Kubra with seven pebbles and left the Kaaba on his left and Mina on his right. He said, "This is the place where Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed."
أَنَّهُ حَجَّ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَرَمَى الْجَمْرَةَ الْكُبْرَى بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍوَجَعَلَ الْبَيْتَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَمِنًى عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَقَالَ هَذَا مَقَامُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
"It was said to Abdullah bin Masud that some people were stoning the Jamart from above al-Aqabah." He said: "So Abdullah stoned it from the bottom of the valley, then he said: 'From here - by the One beside Whom there is no other God - did the one to whom surat Al-Baqarah was revealed, stone it." Then he threw them with seven pebbles, proclaiming ‘Allahu Akbar’ after each throw. Afterwards, he said: ‘This is as it was done by the one upon whom Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed.’"
رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ اسْتَبْطَنَ الْوَادِيَ فَجَعَلَ الْجَمْرَةَ عَنْ حَاجِبِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْبَيْتَ ثُمَّ رَمَاهَا بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ دُبُرَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَقَامُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
[AI] When Abdullah approached the Jamarat al-`Aqabah, he entered the valley and faced the Kaaba. He placed the pebbles on his right cheek and then threw seven pebbles, saying "From here, by the One besides whom there is none worthy of worship, I throw the one on whom Surah al-Baqarah was revealed."
لَمَّا أَتَى عَبْدُ اللهِ الْجَمْرَةَ جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ اسْتَبْطَنَ الْوَادِيَ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْكَعْبَةَ وَجَعَلَ الْجَمْرَةَ عَلَى حَاجِبِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ ثُمَّ رَمَى بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ مِنْ هَاهُنَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ رَمَى الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ
[AI] Abdullah threw the pebbles of Al-Aqaba from the bottom of the valley with seven stones. With each throw, he exclaimed "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the greatest). It was said to him that some people were throwing from above the pebbles. He replied, "By the One in whose presence there is no god but Him, this is the place where Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed."

هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَوْقِفُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ يَوْمَ رَمَاهَا قَالَ ثُمَّ رَمَاهَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ رَمَى بِهَا ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ
ذِكْرُ الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي يَقِفُ مِنْهُ الْحَاجُّ عِنْدَ رَمْيِهِ الْجِمَارَ
[AI] Abdullah threw from the middle of the valley, so I said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, people usually throw from above it." He replied, "By the One besides whom there is no god, this is the place on which Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed."

So I said, "There are people going up the mountain." He said, "By the One besides whom there is no god, I saw the one upon whom Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed throwing."
أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ حِينَ رَمَى الْعَقَبَةَ فَاسْتَبْطَنَ الْوَادِيَ وَاسْتَعْرَضَهَا يَعْنِي الْجَمْرَةَ فَرَمَاهَا بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ نَاسًا يَصْعَدُونَ الْجَبَلَ فَقَالَ «هَاهُنَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ رَأَيْتُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ رَمَى»
I performed Hajj with Ibn Masʿud , and saw him doing Rami of the big Jamra (Jamrat-ul-Aqaba) with seven small pebbles, keeping the Kaʿba on his left side and Mina on his right. He then said, "This is the place where the one on whom Surat-al-Baqara was revealed (i.e. Messenger of Allah ﷺ ) stood." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1749)
