bazzar:10al-Ḥasan b. Khalaf al-Wāsiṭī > Isḥāq b. Yūsuf > Sufyān > al-Aʿmash > Muslim al-Baṭīn > Saʿīd b. Jubayr > Ibn ʿAbbās

[AI] When the polytheists drove the Prophet ﷺ out of Mecca, Abu Bakr ᴿᴬ said, "They have driven out their Prophet; they will perish." Then this verse was revealed: "Permission has been granted to those who are fought because they were wronged." Abu Bakr said: We do not know anyone who narrated this hadith from al-Thawri except Ishaq al-Azraq, and Qays has also narrated it from al-A'mash, from Muslim, from Said ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas.

"When the Prophet ﷺ was expelled from Makkah, Abu Bakr said: 'They have driven out their Prophet to their own doom.' So Allah, Most High, revealed: 'Permission (to fight) is given to those who are fought against, because they have been wronged; and surely, Allah is able to give them victory (22:39).' So Abu Bakr said: 'Then I knew that there would be fighting.'"
