While I was standing in the row on the day (of the battle) of Badr, I looked to my right and my left and saw two young Ansari boys, and I wished I had been stronger than they. One of them called my attention saying, "O Uncle! Do you know Abu Jahl?" I said, "Yes, What do you want from him, O my nephew?" He said, "I have been informed that he abuses Messenger of Allah ﷺ. By Him in Whose Hands my life is, if I should see him, then my body will not leave his body till either of us meet his fate." I was astonished at that talk. Then the other boy called my attention saying the same as the other had said. After a while I saw Abu Jahl walking amongst the people. I said (to the boys), "Look! This is the man you asked me about." So, both of them attacked him with their swords and struck him to death and returned to Allah'S Apostle to inform him of that. Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Which of you has killed him?" Each of them said, "I Have killed him." Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Have you cleaned your swords?" They said, "No. " He then looked at their swords and said, "No doubt, you both have killed him and the spoils of the deceased will be given to Muʿadh bin ʿAmr bin Al-Jamuh." The two boys were Muʿadh bin 'Afra and Muʿadh bin ʿAmr bin Al-Jamuh.  

بَيْنَا أَنَا وَاقِفٌ فِي الصَّفِّ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَنَظَرْتُ عَنْ يَمِينِي وَشِمَالِي فَإِذَا أَنَا بِغُلاَمَيْنِ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ حَدِيثَةٍ أَسْنَانُهُمَا تَمَنَّيْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ بَيْنَ أَضْلَعَ مِنْهُمَا فَغَمَزَنِي أَحَدُهُمَا فَقَالَ يَا عَمِّ هَلْ تَعْرِفُ أَبَا جَهْلٍ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ مَا حَاجَتُكَ إِلَيْهِ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي قَالَ أُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّهُ يَسُبُّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَئِنْ رَأَيْتُهُ لاَ يُفَارِقُ سَوَادِي سَوَادَهُ حَتَّى يَمُوتَ الأَعْجَلُ مِنَّا فَتَعَجَّبْتُ لِذَلِكَ فَغَمَزَنِي الآخَرُ فَقَالَ لِي مِثْلَهَا فَلَمْ أَنْشَبْ أَنْ نَظَرْتُ إِلَى أَبِي جَهْلٍ يَجُولُ فِي النَّاسِ قُلْتُ أَلاَ إِنَّ هَذَا صَاحِبُكُمَا الَّذِي سَأَلْتُمَانِي فَابْتَدَرَاهُ بِسَيْفَيْهِمَا فَضَرَبَاهُ حَتَّى قَتَلاَهُ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهُ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَاهُ فَقَالَ أَيُّكُمَا قَتَلَهُ قَالَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا أَنَا قَتَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ هَلْ مَسَحْتُمَا سَيْفَيْكُمَا قَالاَ لاَ فَنَظَرَ فِي السَّيْفَيْنِ فَقَالَ كِلاَكُمَا قَتَلَهُ سَلَبُهُ لِمُعَاذِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْجَمُوحِ وَكَانَا مُعَاذَ ابْنَ عَفْرَاءَ وَمُعَاذَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْجَمُوحِ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ سَمِعَ يُوسُفُ صَالِحًا وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبَاهُ (عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ)  

While I was standing in the battle array on the Day of Badr, I looked towards my right and my left, and found myself between two boys from the Ansar quite young in age. I wished I were between stronger persons. One of them made a sign to me and. said: Uncle, do you recognise Abu Jahl? 1 said: Yes. What do you want to do with him, O my nephew? He said: I have been told that he abuses the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. By Allah, in Whose Hand is my life, if I see him (I will grapple with him) and will not leave him until one of us who is destined to die earlier is killed. The narrator said: I wondered at this. Then the other made a sign to me and said similar words. Soon after I saw Abu Jahl. He was moving about among men. I said to the two boys: Don't you see? He is the man you were inquiring about. (As soon as they heard this), they dashed towards him, struck him with their swords until he was killed. Then they returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him (to this effect). He asked: Which of you has killed him? Each one of them said: I have killed him. He said: Have you wiped your swords? They said: No. He examined their swords and said: Both of you have killed him. He then decided that the belongings of Abu Jahl he handed over to Mu'adh b. Amr b. al-Jamuh. And the two boys were Mu'adh b. Amr b. Jawth and Mu'adh b. Afra.

[Machine] "While I was standing in line on the day of Badr, I looked to my right and left and saw two young boys from the Ansar. Their teeth were new, and I wished to be among them, so one of them nudged me and said, 'Do you know Abu Jahl?' I replied, 'Yes, and what do you need him for, O son of my cousin?' He said, 'I have been informed that he insults the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and by the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if I see him, he will not leave my sight until he dies.' I was amazed by this, so the other one also nudged me and said the same thing. Before I could respond, I saw Abu Jahl moving among the people, so I told them, 'Behold, this is your companion whom you are asking about.' They immediately drew their swords and struck him until they killed him. Then they went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him. He asked, 'Which one of you killed him?' Each of them said, 'I killed him.' He then asked, 'Did you both wipe your swords?' They replied, 'No.' So he looked at their swords and said, 'Both of you killed him, and the spoils have been rightfully decided for Mu'adh ibn 'Amr ibn Al-Jamuh.'" (This hadith has been summarized by Adh-Dhahabi.)

They both winked at me and one of them asked, "Do you know Abu Jahl ibn Hisham, O cousin?" I replied, "Yes, I do. What do you need from him, O son of my brother?" He said, "I have been informed that he insults the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and by the One in whose hand is my soul, if I see him, he will not leave the battlefield until one of us dies." I was impressed by what he said. The other boy then winked at me and said the same thing. I did not think much of it until I saw Abu Jahl walking among the people. I told them, "This is your companion who you asked me about." They immediately went towards him and struck him with their swords, killing him. They then went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him of what they had done. He asked them, "Which one of you killed him?" They both claimed responsibility, and he asked, "Did you wipe your swords?" They replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ looked at their swords and said, "Both of you have killed him." He then gave the spoils of war to Mu'adh ibn 'Amr ibn al-Jamuh. The two men were Mu'adh ibn 'Amr ibn al-Jamuh and Mu'adh ibn 'Afra.

[Machine] Abdullah bin Sahal was found dead in a valley in Khaybar. His brother, Abdurrahman bin Sahal, brought the news to the Prophet Muhammad, and mentioned the animosity of the Jews towards them. The Prophet then asked if the Jews would be willing to take an oath fifty times to prove their innocence in Abdullah's murder. They replied saying that they could not trust their oaths, as they were polytheists. The Prophet then asked if fifty people among them would be willing to swear that they had killed Abdullah. They responded saying that it was impossible for them to make such a claim without evidence. The Prophet Muhammad swore that he would make everything right from his side.  

وُجِدَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ قَتِيلًا فِي قَلِيبٍ مِنْ قُلُبِ خَيْبَرَ فَجَاءَ أَخُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ وَعَمَّاهُ حُوَيِّصَةُ وَمُحَيِّصَةُ فَذَهَبَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَتَكَلَّمُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْكُبْرَ الْكُبْرَ فَتَكَلَّمَ أَحَدُ عَمَّيْهِ الْكَبِيرُ مِنْهُمَا إِمَّا حُوَيِّصَةُ وَإِمَّا مُحَيِّصَةُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا عَبْدَ اللهِ قَتِيلًا فِي قَلِيبٍ مِنْ قُلُبِ خَيْبَرَ فَذَكَرَ يَهُودَ وَعَدَاوَتِهُمْ وَشَرَّهُمْ قَالَ أَفَتُبْرِئُكُمْ يَهُودُ بِخَمْسِينَ يَمِينًا يَحْلِفُونَ أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَقْتُلُوهُ؟ قَالُوا وَكَيْفَ نَرْضَى بِأَيْمَانِهِمْ وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ؟ قَالَ فَيُقْسِمُ مِنْكُمْ خَمْسُونَ أَنَّهُمْ قَتَلُوهُ؟ قَالُوا وَكَيْفَ نُقْسِمُ عَلَى مَا لَمْ نَرَهُ؟ قَالَ فَوَدَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ
