[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to move his lips in a certain way during the Battle of Hunayn, which he had never done before. He then said, "Indeed, there was a prophet among those who came before you, and his nation pleased him. He said, 'These people will not experience any harm, and so Allah revealed to him that he should give them the choice between one of three things: either they would face an enemy from outside, whom they would defeat, or they would face hunger, or they would face death.' They said, 'We can't bear killing or hunger, but death we can bear.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'So he died, along with seventy thousand others.' Then he said, 'Now I say, O Allah, I make attempts and rely on You, and I fight for Your sake.'"

[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to pray, he would whisper something that we could not understand, and he would not inform us about it. So the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, 'Did you notice that?' A person said, 'Yes.' The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, 'Indeed, I mentioned a prophet from among the prophets who was granted soldiers from his people?' He said, 'So who is equal to these or who stands up for these or a word similar to this?' Sulaiman was doubted. Allah, the Exalted, revealed to him to choose for his people one of three: either to be afflicted with an enemy from other than them, or hunger, or death.' He said, 'So he consulted his people about it, and they said, 'You are the Prophet of Allah. So it is up to you to decide. So pride for us.' He said, 'So he stood up for his prayer, and they used to be terrified when they hurried to the prayer. He said, 'So he prayed. He said, 'As for an enemy from other than them, no. And as for hunger, no. But death.' He said, 'So death was inflicted upon them for three days, and seventy thousand of them died. My whispering that you see me say, 'O Lord, I fight for You and I strive, and there is no power or strength except with Allah."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to move his lips after the Fajr prayer with something we did not see him doing before. So we said, "O Messenger of Allah, we see you doing something that you did not do before. What is it that moves your lips?" He said, "Indeed, a prophet among those who came before you was amazed by the large number of his followers, so he said, 'These people will not be harmed by anything.' So Allah revealed to him to give his nation one of three choices: either He would send upon them an enemy from outside to dominate them, or He would send upon them a severe famine, or He would send upon them death, so they consulted among themselves and said, 'We cannot bear an enemy, nor can we bear hunger, but death, so death was sent upon them and seventy thousand of them died within three days.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Now, since they have become numerous, O Allah, I strive by You, I wrestle by You, and I fight by You.'"

He said, "I mentioned a prophet among the prophets who was given troops from his people. He said, 'Who will fight for these people?' So Allah revealed to him to choose one of three: either to subject them to the attack of an enemy from outside, or to cause them to suffer from famine, or to afflict them with death. So he consulted his people about this, and they said, 'You are the Messenger of Allah; decide for us.' He then stood up for prayer, and whenever they were distressed, they would hasten to prayer. He prayed as Allah willed, then he said, 'O Lord, as for their enemy, let it not be something other than themselves; as for famine, let it not be upon them; but afflict them with death for three days.' Seventy thousand of them died. What I whispered to you is that I said, 'O Allah, I fight and strive with Your help, and there is no power or strength except with Allah.'"  

ابن حبّان:١٩٧٥أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to move his lips with something during the days of Hunayn when he prayed the morning prayers. So we said, "O Messenger of Allah, you used to continue moving your lips with something after the morning prayers, but you do not do so now." He said, "A prophet before us was fascinated by the large number of his nation, so he said something without the inspiration of Allah to him. So Allah inspired him that the best of your nation is one of three things: either they will be afflicted with death, or with the enemy, or with hunger." So he offered them that, and they said, "We cannot bear hunger or fight the enemy, but death." And seventy thousand of them died within three days. And today I say, "O Allah, with You I strive and with You I seek assistance and with You I fight."

He said, "One of the prophets was amazed by the abundance of his people, so he said, 'Who will provide for these people or stand up for them?' It was said to him, 'Choose between your companions that we inflict upon them an enemy who would kill them, or famine, or death.' So he gave them the choice and they chose death. Some of them died within three days, seventy thousand in total. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'And I say, O Allah, with You I fight, with You I strive, and with You I undertake, and there is no power or strength except with You, and all the supplications that have been mentioned before in this are mentioned in the Book of Hajj and the Book of Invocations.'"

"إِنَّ نَبِيًا من الأَنبياءِ أَعْجَبَتْهُ كَثْرَةُ أُمَّتِهِ، فقال: من يقومُ لهولأُءِ فَأَوْحَى اللَّه إليهِ: أَن خَيِّر أُمتَّكَ بَيْنَ إِحْدَى ثلاث: إِمَّا أَنْ أُسَلِّطَ عليهم الموتَ، أَو الْعَدُوَّ، أَو الجوعَ؛ فَعَرضَ لَهُمْ ذِلكَ فقالوَا: أَنت نبىُّ اللَّه نَكِلُ ذلِكَ إِليكَ، فَخِرْ لَنَا، فَقَامَ إِلى

صلاتِهِ وكانوا يَفْزَعُونَ إِذا فزِعوا إلى الصلاِة؛ فَصَلَّى فقال: أَمَّا الجِوعُ فلا طاقةَ لنا به: ولا طاقةَ لنا بالْعَدُوِّ ولكن الموتُ. فَسُلِّطَ عليهم الموتُ فمات منهم في ثلاثة أيَّامٍ سبْعُون أَلفًا فأَنا اليومَ أَقولُ: اللهمَّ بِكَ أُحاوِلُ، وبِكَ أُصَاوِلُ، وبكَ أُقَاتل ولا حولَ ولا قوَّةَ إِلا باللَّه".
