"Al-Hasan said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me some words to say in witr in Qunut: Allahumma ihdini fiman hadayta wa 'afini fiman afayta wa tawallani fiman tawallayta wa barik li fima a'tayta, wa qini sharra ma qadayta, fa innaka taqdi wa la yuqda 'alayk, wa innahu la yadhilluman walayta, tabarakta Rabbana wa at'alayt (O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, turn to me in friendship among those on whom You have turned in friendship, and bless me in what You have bestowed, and save me from the evil of what You have decreed. For verily You decree and none can influence You; and he is not humiliated whom You have befriended. Blessed are You, O Lord, and Exalted.)'"

"Messenger of Allah taught me some phrases to say during Al-Witr (Allahummahdini fiman hadait, wa a'fini fiman afait, wa tawallani fiman tawallait, wa barik Li fima atait, wa qini sharra ma qadait, fa Innaka taqdi wa la yuqda Alaik, wa innahu la yadhillu man walait, tabarakta Rabbana wa ta'alait.) 'O Allah guide me among those You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, befriend me among those You have befriended, bless me in what You have granted, and save me from the evil that You decreed. Indeed You decree, and none can pass decree, and none can pass decree upon You, indeed he is not humiliated whom You have befriended, blessed are You our Lord and Exalted.'"

[Machine] I asked Al-Hassan ibn Ali, "What do you remember from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him?" He replied, "He carried me on his shoulder and I took a date from the charity dates and put it in my mouth. He said to me, 'Throw it away, as we are not allowed to eat from charity.' He used to make this supplication: 'O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, grant me well-being among those whom You have granted well-being, take me into Your care among those whom You have taken into Your care, bless for me what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. Surely, You decree and You are not decreed upon. Blessed are You and exalted.'"  

قُلْتُ لِلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ مَا تَذْكُرُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ حَمَلَنِي عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ فَأَخَذْتُ تَمْرَةً مِنْ تَمْرِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَأَدْخَلْتُهَا فِي فَمِي فَقَالَ لِي «أَلْقِهَا أَمَا شَعَرْتَ أَنَّا لَا تَحِلُّ لَنَا الصَّدَقَةُ» قَالَ وَكَانَ يَدْعُو بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ «اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ إِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ»

They were: "O Allah, guide me among those Thou hast guided, grant me security among those Thou hast granted security, take me into Thy charge among those Thou hast taken into Thy charge, bless me in what Thou hast given, guard me from the evil of what Thou hast decreed, for Thou dost decree, and nothing is decreed for Thee. He whom Thou befriendest is not humbled. Blessed and Exalted art Thou, our Lord." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1425)

[Machine] I asked Hassan ibn Ali, "What do you remember from the Messenger of Allah?" He said, "I remember that I took a date from the charity dates and put it in my mouth. Then he snatched it from me with his saliva and threw it back into the dates. He used to teach us this supplication: 'O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, grant me wellness among those whom You have granted wellness, take care of me among those whom You have taken care of, bless for me what You have given me, and protect me from the evil of what You have ordained. Surely, You decide and no one can decide against You. Surely, the one whom You support shall never be humiliated.'" Shu'bah said, "And I think he said, 'You are blessed and exalted.'"

They were: "O Allah, guide me among those Thou hast guided, grant me security among those Thou hast granted security, take me into Thy charge among those Thou hast taken into Thy charge, bless me in what Thou hast given, guard me from the evil of what Thou hast decreed, for Thou dost decree, and nothing is decreed for Thee. He whom Thou befriendest is not humbled. Blessed and Exalted art Thou, our Lord." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1425)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me some words that I say during the witr. (The version of Ibn Jawwas has: I say them in the supplication of the witr.) They were: "O Allah, guide me among those Thou hast guided, grant me security among those Thou hast granted security, take me into Thy charge among those Thou hast taken into Thy charge, bless me in what Thou hast given, guard me from the evil of what Thou hast decreed, for Thou dost decree, and nothing is decreed for Thee. “My grandfather, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, taught me some words to say in Qunut of Witr: Allahumma ‘afini fiman ‘afait, wa tawallani fiman tawallait, wahdini fiman hadait, wa qini sharra ma qadait, wa barik li fima a’tait. Innaka taqdi wa la yuqda ‘alaik, innahu la yudhillu man walait. Subhanaka rabbana tabarakta wa ta’alait (O Allah, pardon me along with those whom You have pardoned, be an ally to me along with those whom You are an ally to, guide me along with those whom You have guided, protect me from the evil that You have decreed, and bless for me that which You have bestowed. For verily You decree and none can decree over You. He whom You support can never be humiliated. Glory is to You, our Lord, You are Blessed and Exalted).” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1178)

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me these words in witr. He said: Say: Allahumma ihdini fiman hadayta wa 'afini fiman afayta wa tawallani fiman tawallayta wa barik li fima a'tayta, wa qini sharra ma qadayta, fa innaka taqdi wa la yuqda 'alayk, wa innahu la yadhilluman walayta, tabarakta Rabbana wa at'alayt. Wa salla Allahu ala al-Nabi Muhammad (O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, turn to me in friendship among those on whom You have turned in friendship, and bless me in what You have bestowed, and save me from the evil of what You have decreed. For verily You decree and none can influence You; and he is not humiliated whom You have befriended. Blessed are You, O Lord, and Exalted. And may Allah (SWT) send salah upon the Prophet Muhammad)'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1746)

أَنَّهُ قَالَ عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ فِي الْوِتْرِ قَالَ «قُلِ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ»  

[Machine] Teach me, O Messenger of Allah, what to say in my Witr prayer when I raise my head and only Sujood remains (to be performed). O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, make me well among those whom You have made well, take care of me among those whom You have taken care of, bless me in what You have given me, and protect me from the evil that You have decreed. Indeed, You decree and none can decree upon You. No one who You have befriended will be humiliated, and no one who You have opposed will be honored. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted are You. This wording is specific to Abu Bakr ibn Shaybah al-Hazami, and it has been narrated in the Qunut of the Fajr prayer after the Ruku'. It is what is recommended to rely upon, and the Qunut of Witr prayer is based on it by analogy.  

عَلِّمْنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي وِتْرِي إِذَا رَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي وَلَمْ يَبْقَ إِلَّا السُّجُودُ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ إِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ وَلَا يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ تَفَرَّدَ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ شَيْبَةَ الْحِزَامِيُّ وَقَدْ رُوِّينَا فِي قُنُوتِ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ بَعْدَ الرُّكُوعِ مَا يُوجِبُ الِاعْتِمَادَ عَلَيْهِ وَقُنُوتُ الْوِتْرِ قِيَاسٌ عَلَيْهِ  

[Machine] Al-Hasan ibn Ali said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me some words to say during Witr prayers. Ibn Jawwas said, 'In the Qunut of Witr, say: O Allah! Guide me among those whom You have guided, pardon me among those whom You have pardoned, take care of me among those whom You have taken care of, bless me in what You have given, and protect me from the evil that You have decreed. Surely, You decree and none can decree over You. Verily, he whom You take as an ally is never disgraced. Blessed are You, O our Lord, and Exalted.' Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan informed us, Ahmed ibn Ubayd Al-Saffar informed us, Uthman ibn Umar al-Dabbi informed us, Amr ibn Marzooq informed us, from Zuhayr, from Abu Ishaq, from Yazid ibn Abi Maryam, from Abu al-Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me to say during Witr prayers, 'O Allah! Guide me among those whom You have guided.' He mentioned the Hadith, and at the end he said, 'Say it in Qunut during Witr prayers.'"  

قَالَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كَلِمَاتٍ أَقُولُهُنَّ فِي الْوِتْرِ قَالَ ابْنُ جَوَّاسٍ فِي قُنُوتِ الْوِتْرِ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ 4628 وَأنبأ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثنا عَمْرٌو يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَرْزُوقٍ ثنا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَوْرَاءِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيتَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَفِي آخِرِهِ تَقُولُهَا فِي الْقُنُوتِ فِي الْوِتْرِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me words that I say in the Qunut:

"O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, pardon me among those whom You have pardoned, turn to me in friendship among those on whom You have turned in friendship, and bless me in what You have bestowed, and protect me from the evil you have decreed. For You decree, and none can decree over You. For sure, he whom You show allegiance to is never abased, while he who is hostile to You shall never be honored and blessed. You are Blessed, Our Lord, and Exalted. This is how it is in the original form of his book, whether attributed to Al-Hasan or Al-Hasan ibn Ali. It is as if doubt has not arisen regarding Al-Hasan, but has only arisen regarding generality or attribution. And this addition is found in the original form of his book, and he who is hostile to You shall never be honored."  

عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كَلِمَاتٍ أَقُولُهُنَّ فِي الْقُنُوتِ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ وَلَا يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ كَذَا كَانَ فِي أَصْلِ كِتَابِهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَوِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ فَكَأَنَّ الشَّكَّ لَمْ يَقَعْ فِي الْحَسَنِ وَإِنَّمَا وَقَعَ فِي الْإِطْلَاقِ أَوِ النِّسْبَةِ وَكَانَ فِي أَصْلِ كِتَابِهِ هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةُ وَلَا يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَ  

[Machine] I asked Hassan ibn Ali, "What supplication did you learn from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He said, "He taught me these words: 'O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, grant me well-being among those whom You have granted well-being, take me into Your care among those whom You have taken into Your care, bless for me what You have given me, and protect me from the evil that You have decreed. Indeed, You decree and none can decree upon You. I see that one who seeks Your guidance will never be humiliated, O our Lord, blessed and exalted are You.'" I mentioned this to Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah, and he said, "It is the supplication that my father used to make during the Qunut of the Fajr prayer." Sheikh Buraid quotes, "I mentioned this to Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah."  

سَأَلْتُ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ مَا عَلِقْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ فَقَالَ عَلَّمَنِي دَعَوَاتٍ أَقُولُهُنَّ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ أُرَاهُ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ قَالَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِمُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ الدُّعَاءُ الَّذِي كَانَ أَبِي يَدْعُو بِهِ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ فِي قُنُوتِهِ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ بُرَيْدٌ يَقُولُ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِمُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ  

"Al-Hasan said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me some words to say in witr in Qunut: Allahumma ihdini fiman hadayta wa 'afini fiman afayta wa tawallani fiman tawallayta wa barik li fima a'tayta, wa qini sharra ma qadayta, fa innaka taqdi wa la yuqda 'alayk, wa innahu la yadhilluman walayta, tabarakta Rabbana wa at'alayt (O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, turn to me in friendship among those on whom You have turned in friendship, and bless me in what You have bestowed, and save me from the evil of what You have decreed. أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ وَمُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ هُوَ ابْنُ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ بِالْخَيْفِ يَقُولَانِ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقْنُتُ فِي صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ وَفِي وِتْرِ اللَّيْلِ بِهَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ إِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ  

"اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِى فِيمَنْ هَدَيتَ، وَعَافِنى فِيمَنْ عَافَيتَ، وَتَوَلَّنى فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيتَ، وَبَارِكْ لي فِيمَا أَعْطَيتَ، وقِنى شَرَّ ما قَضَيتَ، إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيكَ، وإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَاليتَ، تَبَارَكْتَ رَبّنَا وَتَعَاليتَ".
