A man from Banu Abdullah ibn Ka'b brethren of Banu Qushayr (not Anas ibn Malik, the well-known Companion), said: A contingent from the cavalry of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raided us. I reached (for he said went) to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who was taking his meals. He said: Sit down, and take some from this meal of ours. I said: I am fasting, he said: Sit down, I shall tell you about prayer and fasting. Allah has remitted half the prayer to a traveller, and fasting to the traveller, the woman who is suckling an infant and the woman who is pregnant, I swear by Allah, he mentioned both (i.e. suckling and pregnant women) or one of them. I was grieved for not taking the food of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.  

أَغَارَتْ عَلَيْنَا خَيْلٌ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَانْتَهَيْتُ أَوْ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ فَقَالَ اجْلِسْ فَأَصِبْ مِنْ طَعَامِنَا هَذَا فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ اجْلِسْ أُحَدِّثْكَ عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ وَعَنِ الصِّيَامِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى وَضَعَ شَطْرَ الصَّلاَةِ أَوْ نِصْفَ الصَّلاَةِ وَالصَّوْمَ عَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ وَعَنِ الْمُرْضِعِ أَوِ الْحُبْلَى وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ قَالَهُمَا جَمِيعًا أَوْ أَحَدَهُمَا قَالَ فَتَلَهَّفَتْ نَفْسِي أَنْ لاَ أَكُونَ أَكَلْتُ مِنْ طَعَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ  

“The cavalry of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ attacked us, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was eating a meal. He said: ‘Come and eat.’ I said: ‘I am fasting.’ He said: ‘Sit down and I will tell you about fasting. Allah has relieved the traveler of half of the prayer, and He has relieved the traveler, the pregnant, and the nursing mothers of the duty to fast.’ By Allah, the Prophet ﷺ said them, both, or one of them, and now I feel so disappointed that I had not eaten of the food of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”  

أَغَارَتْ عَلَيْنَا خَيْلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَتَغَدَّى فَقَالَ ادْنُ فَكُلْ قُلْتُ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ اجْلِسْ أُحَدِّثْكَ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ أَوِ الصِّيَامِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ وَضَعَ عَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ شَطْرَ الصَّلاَةِ وَعَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ وَالْحَامِلِ وَالْمُرْضِعِ الصَّوْمَ أَوِ الصِّيَامَ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ قَالَهُمَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ كِلْتَاهُمَا أَوْ إِحْدَاهُمَا فَيَا لَهْفَ نَفْسِي فَهَلاَّ كُنْتُ طَعِمْتُ مِنْ طَعَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

أَغَارَتْ عَلَيْنَا خَيْلٌ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ فَقَالَ «اجْلِسْ فَأَصِبْ مِنْ طَعَامِنَا هَذَا» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ «اجْلِسْ أُحَدِّثْكَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ وَعَنِ الصَّوْمِ إِنَّ اللهَ وَضَعَ شَطْرَ أَوْ نِصْفَ الصَّلَاةِ عَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ وَوَضَعَ الصَّوْمَ أَوِ الصِّيَامَ عَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ وَالْمَرِيضِ وَالْحَامِلِ» وَاللهِ لَقَدْ قَالَهَا جَمِيعًا أَوْ إِحْدَاهَا فَلُمْتُ نَفْسِي أَلَّا أَكُونَ أَكَلْتُ مِنْ طَعَامِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] The cavalry of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , became jealous of us, so I went to him and found him eating. He said, "Come, eat." I said, "I am fasting." He said, "Sit down, let me tell you about fasting." Allah has exempted the traveler from half of the prayer, and the traveler, the pregnant woman, and the nursing mother from fasting. By Allah, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said both of these things or one of them. Oh, how I long for myself if I did not taste food from the food of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ." And a man from the Banu Abd Allah bin Ka'b, the brothers of Banu Qushair, said something.  

أَغَارَتْ عَلَيْنَا خَيْلُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَوَجَدْتُهُ يَأْكُلُ فَقَالَ ادْنُ فَكُلْ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ اجْلِسْ أُحَدِّثْكَ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ أَوْ عَنِ الصِّيَامِ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ وَضَعَ عَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ شَطْرَ الصَّلَاةِ وَعَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ وَالْحَامِلِ وَالْمُرْضِعِ الصَّوْمَ أَوِ الصِّيَامَ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ قَالَهُمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كِلَاهُمَا أَوْ أَحَدَهُمَا فَيَا لَهْفَ نَفْسِي أَلَّا كُنْتُ طَعِمْتُ مِنْ طَعَامِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِخْوَةِ بَنِي قُشَيْرٍ كَذَا  

" عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِك - رَجُلٌ مِن بَنى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْب - قَالَ: أَغَارَتْ عَلَيْنَا خَيْلُ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَإِذَا هُوَ يَأكُلُ فَقَالَ: اجْلِسْ فَأَصِبْ مِنْ هَذَا الطَّعَامِ، فَقُلْتُ: إنِّى صَائِمٌ، فَقَالَ: اجْلسْ أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ وَالصِّيَامِ، إِنَّ اللهَ وَضعَ عَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ شَطرَ الصَّلاَةِ، وَوَضَعَ عَنِ الْمُسَافِرِ الصِّيَامَ، أَوْ قَالَ: الصَّوْم، وَعَنِ الْحُبْلَى وَالْمُرْضع فَيَا لَهْفَ نَفْسِى أن لاَ أكوُنَ أكَلْت مِنْ طَعَامِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ".
