I will not give anything today from it to anybody. Then I turned round and saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was smiling (at my words).

أَصَبْتُ جِرَابًا مِنْ شَحْمٍ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ قَالَ فَالْتَزَمْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ لاَ أُعْطِي الْيَوْمَ أَحَدًا مِنْ هَذَا شَيْئًا قَالَ فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُتَبَسِّمًا

‘Abd Allaah bin Mughaffal said “On the day of Khaibar a skin of fat was hanging. I came to it and clung to it. I then said (i.e., thought) I shall not give any one any of it today. I then turned round and saw the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ smiling at me.

ثُمَّ قُلْتُ لاَ أُعْطِي مِنْ هَذَا أَحَدًا الْيَوْمَ شَيْئًا قَالَ فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَتَبَسَّمُ إِلَىَّ

"A bag of fat was thrown on the day of Khaibar, and I caught it and said: "I will not give anything of this to anyone.' I turned around and saw the Messenger of Allah there, smiling." (Sahih )

دُلِّيَ جِرَابٌ مِنْ شَحْمٍ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ فَالْتَزَمْتُهُ قُلْتُ لاَ أُعْطِي أَحَدًا مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَتَبَسَّمُ

[AI] I wore a sock made of leather on the day of Khaybar. He said, "So I approached him and held it tightly." He said, "Then I said, 'I will not give anyone anything of this today.' So I turned around and saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiling at me." Abdullah said, "I hope that Humayd heard it from Abdullah."

دُلِّيَ جِرَابٌ مِنْ شَحْمٍ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَالْتَزَمْتُهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ قُلْتُ لَا أُعْطِي مِنْ هَذَا أَحَدًا الْيَوْمَ شَيْئًا فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَبْتَسِمُ إِلَيَّ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ «أَرْجُو أَنْ يَكُونَ حُمَيْدٌ سَمِعَ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ»

[AI] I heard Abdullah ibn Mugaffal saying, "Guide me to a leather sock made of fat on the day of Khaybar, so I took it and held onto it. I said, 'This is mine, and I will not give anyone anything from it.' Then I turned and behold, it was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so I felt shy from him." Sulaiman mentioned in his narration, and it is not mentioned in the narration of Shu'bah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is for you."

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مُغَفَّلٍ ؓ يَقُولُ دُلِّيَ جِرَابٌ مِنْ شَحْمٍ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ فَأَخَذْتُهُ فَالْتَزَمْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا لِي لَا أُعْطِي أَحَدًا مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْهُ قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَلَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِ شُعْبَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ هُوَ لَكَ

I will not give anything today from it to anybody. Then I turned round and saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was smiling (at my words). (Using translation from Muslim 1772a)
