I asked Abu Sa'id al-Khudri about wearing lower garment. He said: You have come to the man who knows it very well. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The way for a believer to wear a lower garment is to have it halfway down his legs and he is guilty of no sin if it comes halfway between that and the ankles, but what comes lower than the ankles is in Hell. On the day of Resurrection. Allah will not look at him who trails his lower garment conceitedly.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِزْرَةُ الْمُسْلِمِ إِلَى نِصْفِ السَّاقِ وَلاَ حَرَجَ أَوْ لاَ جُنَاحَ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ مَا كَانَ أَسْفَلَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ بَطَرًا لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ

“I said to Abu Sa’eed: ‘Did you hear anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concerning the lower wrap?’ He said: ‘Yes. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘The lower wrap of the believer should come to mid-calf, but there is no sin on him if it comes between that point and the ankle. But whatever is lower than the ankle is in the Fire.’ And he said three times: ‘Allah will not look at the one who lets his lower wrap drag out of vanity.’”

سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ شَيْئًا فِي الإِزَارِ قَالَ نَعَمْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِزْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ سَاقَيْهِ لاَ جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ وَمَا أَسْفَلَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ فِي النَّارِ يَقُولُ ثَلاَثًا لاَ يَنْظُرُ اللَّهُ إِلَى مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ بَطَرًا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The garment of a believer extends to the middle of his calves, and anything lower than that will be in the Fire."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِزْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِلَى عَضَلَةِ سَاقَيْهِ ثُمَّ إِلَى نِصْفِ سَاقَيْهِ ثُمَّ إِلَى كَعْبَيْهِ فَمَا كَانَ أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فِي النَّارِ

[AI] Abu Al-Qasim's ﷺ garment for a believer should be from the middle of the calves and downwards to above the ankles. Whatever is below that is in the Fire.

أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ إِزْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مِنْ أَنْصَافِالسَّاقَيْنِ فَأَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِلَى مَا فَوْقَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ فَمَا كَانَ أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَفِي النَّارِ

Yahya related to me from Malik from al Ala ibn Abd ar-Rahman that his father said, "I asked Abu Said al-Khudri about the lower garment. He said that he would inform me with knowledge and that he had heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The lower garment of the mumin should reach to the middle of his calves. There is no harm in what is between that and the ankles. What is lower than that is in the Fire. What is lower than that is in the Fire. On the Day of Rising, Allah will not look at a person who trails his lower garment in arrogance.' "

[AI] "The waistcloth (izār) was mentioned, so I went to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and asked him about the waistcloth. He said, 'Yes, with knowledge I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The waistcloth of a believer should cover the area between his navel and his knees. It is not sinful if it is shorter or longer than that, but whoever drags their waistcloth arrogantly, Allah will not look at them in the Hellfire."

ذُكِرَ الْإِزَارُ فَأَتَيْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ فَقُلْتُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الْإِزَارِ فَقَالَ أَجَلْ بِعِلْمٍ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِزْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ سَاقَيْهِ لَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ وَمَا أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَفِي النَّارِ مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ بَطَرًا لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ»

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال الإزار إلى أنصاف ساقه إلى الكعبين فما أسفل من ذلك ففي النار

[AI] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The izar (lower garment) of the believer should come to the middle of his calves and it is not a sin for it to come between that and the ankles. And whoever drags his garment out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him.'"

أَسَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ شَيْئًا فِي الْإِزَارِ؟ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِزْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِلَى نِصْفِ سَاقَيْهِ لَا جُنَاحَ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ وَمَا أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فِي النَّارِ مَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ بَطَرًا لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللهُ إِلَيْهِ؟»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "The lower part of a believer's leg, up to the ankles, is not accountable for what is between it and the ankles. Whoever lets his garment drag out of pride, Allah will not look at him."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِزْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ سَاقِهِ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ جُنَاحٌ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ مَا أَسْفَلَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ فِي النَّارِ مَنْ جَرَّ ثِيَابَهُ خُيْلَةً لَمْ يَنْظُرِ اللهُ إِلَيْهِ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The hem of a believer's garment should reach halfway between the ankles and the shins, and there is no harm in what is between that and the two ankles. However, whatever is below that is in the Fire. Allah will not look at those who drag their garments out of arrogance." This is a narration of Malik and Abdullah.
