Collected by Muslim, Nasāʾī, Tirmidhī, Ibn Mājah, Aḥmad, Dārimī, Ibn Ḥibbān, Nasāʾī's Kubrá, BayhaqīI told 'Umar b. al-Khattab that Allah had said:" You may shorten the prayer only if you fear that those who are unbelievers may afflict you" (Qur'an, iv. 101), whereas the people are now safe. He replied: I wondered about it in the same way as you wonder about it, so I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it and he said: It is an act of charity which Allah has done to you, so accept His charity.
"I said to 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: 'There is no sin on you if you shorten salah and if you fear that the disbelievers may put you in trial (attack you). But now the people are safe.' 'Umar said: 'I wondered the same thing, so I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that and he said: This is a favor from Allah (SWT) to you, so accept His favor."

"I said to 'Umar [bin Al-Khattab]: 'Allah said: That you shorten the Salat if you fear and the people are safe (4:101).' So 'Umar said: 'I wondered about that just as you have wondered. So I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "It is charity which Allah has given to you, so accept His charity."

“I asked ‘Umar bin Khattab: ‘Allah says: “And when you travel in the land, there is no sin on you if you shorten the prayer if you fear that the disbelievers may put you in trial (attack you), verily, the disbelievers are ever to you open enemies,” [4:101] but now there is security and people are safe.’ He said: ‘I found it strange just as you do, so I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that, and he said: “It is charity that Allah has bestowed upon you, so accept His charity.”

I said to 'Umar bin al Khattab ؓ , ʿAnd when you (Muslims) travel in the land, there is no sin on you if you shorten AsSalah (the prayer) if you fear that the disbelievers may put you in trial (attack you)ʿ (al Nisa' 4:101].
I said to ʿUmar bin al-Khattab. People are shortening the prayer today, and Allah says: “If you fear that the disbelievers may put you in trial (attack you)ʿ [an-Nisaʿ 4:101). But that time [i.e., time of fear] has gone, He said: I wondered the same thing as you are wondering, and I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that. He said: ʿIt is a charity that Allah has bestowed upon you, so accept His charity.” ʿAbdur-Razzaq told us, Ibn Juraij told us I heard ʿAbdur-Rahman bin ‘Abdullah bin Abi ‘Ammar narrate... and he mentioned [the same report].
[Machine] "To shorten the prayer if you fear" [4:101]. This means that people have already accepted it. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I am amazed at what you are amazed at. Allah has granted you a charity, so accept it."

[Machine] I said to Umar, "The shortcoming of people is their prayers, and indeed Allah, the Most High, has said, 'If you fear that those who disbelieve may tempt you.'" So that is gone. Umar said, "I was amazed by it until I asked the Messenger of Allah, may peace be upon him, and he said, 'It is a charity through which Allah gives you His help, so accept His charity.'"

[Machine] I said to Umar ibn al-Khattab, "The saying of Allah (Exalted is He): 'There is no sin upon you if you shorten the prayer when you fear that those who disbelieve may harm you' (Quran 4:101) and people have been granted security." He said, "I am amazed at what you are amazed at," so I asked the Prophet ﷺ about it. He said, "It is a charity that Allah bestows upon you, so accept His charity." This is the wording of the hadith of Ibn Idris. In the hadith of Abu Asim, he said, "I said to Umar ibn al-Khattab, 'Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says: "There is no sin upon you if you shorten the prayer when you fear that those who disbelieve may harm you" (Quran 4:101).' At the end of it, he said, 'It is a charity that Allah bestows upon you, so accept it.'"
