"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Let men desist from failing to attend the congregation, otherwise I will burn their houses down.'"  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ رِجَالٌ عَنْ تَرْكِ الْجَمَاعَةِ أَوْ لأُحَرِّقَنَّ بُيُوتَهُمْ  

[Machine] Two men from them stood up and asked him, so he said, "It is Dhuhr (midday prayer)." Then they went to Usama ibn Zaid and asked him, and he said, "It is Dhuhr (midday prayer). Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Dhuhr at the time of Hajir, and there would be no one behind him except for the rows and the Safwan from the people in their neighborhood and their trade." So Allah, the Almighty, revealed: "Guard strictly the (five obligatory) prayers, especially the middle prayer and stand before Allah with obedience." [Quran 2:238]. He (the Prophet) said, "Men should stop delaying, or else I will set their houses on fire."  

هِيَ الْعَصْرُ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلَانِ مِنْهُمْ فَسَأَلَاهُ فَقَالَ هِيَ الظُّهْرُ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَا إِلَى أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ فَسَأَلَاهُ فَقَالَ هِيَ الظُّهْرُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي الظُّهْرَ بِالْهَجِيرِ وَلَا يَكُونُ وَرَاءَهُ إِلَّا الصَّفُّ وَالصَّفَّانِ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِي قَائِلَتِهِمْ وَفِي تِجَارَتِهِمْ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى {حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ} [البقرة 238] قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ رِجَالٌ أَوْ لَأُحَرِّقَنَّ بُيُوتَهُمْ  

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said: Let those men who are around the Mosque cease to not attend the last evening prayer in congregation, otherwise I will set fire to their houses with bundles of firewood."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ رِجَالٌ مِمَّنْ حَوْلَ الْمَسْجِدِ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الْعِشَاءَ الْآخِرَةَ فِي الْجَمِيعِ أَوْ لَأُحَرِّقَنَّ حَوْلَ بُيُوتِهِمْ بِحُزَمِ الْحَطَبِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Men around the mosque should stop neglecting attending the evening prayer, or else I will burn their houses down with bundles of firewood."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ رِجَالٌ مِمَّنْ حَوْلِ الْمَسْجِدِ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الْعِشَاءَ أَوْ لَأُحَرِّقَنَّ حَوْلَ بُيُوتِهِمْ بِحُزَمِ الْحَطَبِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray the Dhuhr prayer in Al-Hajirah while people were in their houses and markets. They did not pray behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except in rows. Then Allah ﷻ revealed, "Guard strictly the (five obligatory) prayers, especially the middle prayer and stand before Allah with obedience." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let those who neglect their prayers or delay them (beyond their appointed times) beware, lest I burn their houses."  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الظُّهْرَ بِالْهَاجِرَةِ وَالنَّاسُ فِي قَائِلَتِهِمْ وَأَسْوَاقِهِمْ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّي وَرَاءَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا الصَّفُّ وَالصَّفُّ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ} فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ أَقْوَامٌ أَوْ لَأُحَرِّقَنَّ بُيُوتَهُمْ»  

[Machine] I was among a people who differed in regards to the middle prayer and I was the youngest among them. So they sent me to Zaid bin Thabit to ask him about the middle prayer. So I went to him and asked him. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Dhuhr when the sun had passed the zenith, while the people were in their marketplaces and lanes. And he would not lead the prayer behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except in As-Saff and As-Saffan." So Allah revealed the verse: "Guard strictly the (five obligatory) prayers, especially the middle prayer, and stand before Allah with obedience." (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:238) So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Some men should stop neglecting the prayers, or else I will burn their houses down." Abu 'Abdur-Rahman said, "This is a mistake, and the correct opinion is that it was narrated by Ibn Abi Dhi'b from Az-Zubair bin 'Ammar bin Ummiyah, from Zaid bin Thabit and Usamah bin Zaid."  

كُنْتُ فِي قَوْمٍ اخْتَلَفُوا فِي صَلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى وَأَنَا أَصْغَرُ الْقَوْمِ قَالَ فَبَعَثُونِي إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ لِأَسْأَلَهُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الظُّهْرَ بِالْهَاجِرَةِ وَالنَّاسُ فِي قَائِلَتِهِمْ وَأَسْوَاقِهِمْ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّي وَرَاءَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا الصَّفُّ وَالصَّفَّانِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ {حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ} [البقرة 238] فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ أَقْوَامٌ أَوْ لَأُحَرِّقَنَّ بُيُوتَهُمْ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ هَذَا خَطَأٌ وَالصَّوَابُ ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الزِّبْرِقَانِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ وَأُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ  

"عَنِ الزِّبْرِقَانِ: أَنَّ رَهْطًا منْ قُرَيْشٍ مَرَّ بِهِمْ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِت وَهُمْ مُجْتَمعُونَ فَأَرْسَلُوا إِلَيْهِ غُلَامَيْنِ لَهُمْ يَسْأَلَانِهِ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى فَقَالَ: هِىَ الظُّهْرُ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَا إِلَى

أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْد لَيْسأَلَاهُ فقالا (*): هِىَ الظُّهْرُ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّى الظُّهْرَ بِالْهَجِيرِ، فَلَا يَكُونُ وَرَاءهُ إِلَّا الصَّفُّ وَالصَّفَّانِ وَالنَّاسُ فِى قَائِلَتِهِمْ وَتجارَتِهِمْ فَأَنْزَلَ الله: {حَافظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى} (* *) فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ رجَالٌ أَوْ لأُحَرِّقَنَّ بُيُوتَهُمْ".
