He heard the Prophet ﷺ, when he raised his head in the last rak'ah of the subh prayer, say: "O Allah, curse so-and-so and so-and-so," supplicating against some of the hypocrites. Then Allah revealed the words: "Not for you is the decision; whether He turns in mercy to (pardon) them or punishes them; verily, they are the wrongdoers."

Then he says: "Allah hears the one who praises Him. Our Lord, to You is all praise." Then Allah Almighty revealed: "{It is not for you (O Muhammad) to guide them; but Allah guides whom He wills. And whatever good you (believers) spend is for yourselves, and you do not spend except seeking the Face of Allah. And whatever you spend of good - it will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.} [Al-Imran 128]."

"عَنِ ابْن عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ قَامَ في صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ حينَ رَفَعَ رَأسَهُ مِنَ الرَّكْعَةِ لَمَّا قَالَ: رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ، وَفِى الرَّكْعَةِ الآخِرَة قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ فُلاَنًا وَفُلاَنًا، دَعَا عَلَى نَاسٍ مِنَ الْمُنَافِقيِنَ، فَأَنْزلَ الله {لَيْسَ لَكَ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ أَوْ يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَوْ يُعَذِّبَهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ ظَالِمُونَ} ".
