The Prophet ﷺ said: O people, if any of you is put in an administrative post on our behalf and conceals from us a needle or more, he is acting unfaithfully, and will bring it on the Day of Resurrection. A black man from the Ansar, as if I am seeing him, stood and said: Messenger of Allah, take back from me my post. He asked: What is that? He replied: I heard you say such and such. He said: And I say that. If we appoint anyone to an office, he must bring what is connected with it, both little and much. What he is given, he may take, and he must refrain from what is kept away from him.

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Whoever we employ among you for a task, and he conceals from us a thread, then he is a thief who will bring it on the Day of Resurrection." So, a man from the Ansar stood up, he was known as Adam the tall, and he said, "There is no need for me in your work." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Why?" He replied, "I heard you just now saying, 'Whoever we employ among you for a task, let him bring both its small and large parts, for if something is taken, it should be brought back, and if it is prohibited, it should be avoided.'"

عَنْ عَدِيٍّ الْكِنْدِيِّ ثُمَّ أَحَدِ بَنِي أَرْقَمَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ عَمِلَ مِنْكُمْ لَنَا عَمَلًا فَكَتَمَنَا مِنْهُ مِخْيَطًا فَمَا فَوْقَهُ فَهُوَ غَالٌّ يَأْتِي بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ أَسْوَدُ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ أَرَاهُ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ اقْبَلْ عَنِّي عَمَلَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ «وَمَا ذَاكَ؟ » قَالَ سَمِعْتُكَ تَقُولُ الَّذِي قُلْتَ قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَقُولُهُ الْآنَ مَنِ اسْتَعْمَلْنَاهُ عَلَى عَمَلٍ فَلْيَجِئْ بِقَلِيلِهِ وَكَثِيرِهِ فَمَا أُوتِيَ أَخَذَ وَمَا نُهِيَ عَنْهُ انْتَهَى»

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ delivered a sermon in which he said, 'O people, whoever we employ for a task and they withhold anything from us, even a needle or something smaller, they will be sinning and will be brought to account on the Day of Judgment.' A man from the Ansar, who was dark-skinned and it is as if I can see him now, stood up and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, consider me exempt from your statement.' The Prophet asked, 'What is the matter?' The man said, 'I heard you say what you said earlier.' The Prophet then clarified, 'I say that whoever we employ for a task, whether they bring little or a lot, they will be given what is due to them, and whatever is forbidden will be avoided.'"

خَطَبَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنِ اسْتَعْمَلْنَاهُ مِنْكُمْ عَلَى عَمَلٍ فَكَتَمَنَا مِخْيَطًا فَمَا فَوْقَهُ فَهُوَ غُلٌّ يَأْتِي بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أسْوَدُ كَأَنِّي أنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ الْآنَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ اقْبَلْ عَنِّي عَمَلَكَ قَالَ «وَمَا ذَاك؟» قَالَ سَمِعْتُكَ تَقُولُ الَّذِي قُلْتَ آنِفًا قَالَ «وَأَنَا أَقُولُ مَنِ اسْتَعْمَلْنَاهُ مِنْكُمْ عَلَى عَمَلٍ فَجِيءَ بِقَلِيلِهِ وَكَثِيرِهِ فَمَا أُوتِيَ مِنْهُ أَخَذَ وَمَا نُهِيَ عَنْهُ انْتَهَى»

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whosoever from you is appointed by us to a position of authority and he conceals from us a needle or something smaller than that, it would be misappropriation (of public funds) and will (have to) produce it on the Day of Judgment. The narrator says: A dark-complexioned man from the Ansar stood up - I can visualise him still - and said: Messenger of Allah, take back from me your assignment. He said: What has happened to you? The man said: I have heard you say so and so. He said: I say that (even) now: Whosoever from you is appointed by us to a position of authority, he should bring everything, big or small, and whatever he is given therefrom he should take, and he should restrain himself from taking that which is forbidden. "يَا ايُّهَا النَّاسُ! مَنْ عَمِلَ مِنْكُمْ لَنَاعَمَلًا فَكَتَمَنَا مِنْهُ مِخْيَطًا فمَا

فَوْقَهُ كَانَ غُلُولًا يَأتِى بِهِ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ، مَنِ اسْتَعْمَلنَاهُ مِنْكُمْ عَلَى عَمَل فَليَجِئْ بِقَلِيلِهِ وَكثِيرِهِ، فَمَا أُوتِى مِنْهُ أَخَذَهُ، وَمَا نُهِىَ عَنْهُ انْتَهَى".
