Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z-Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Allah laughs at two men. One of them kills the other, but each of them will enter the Garden: one fights in the way of Allah and is killed, then Allah turns to the killer, so he fights (in the way of Allah) and also becomes a martyr."  

مالك:٢١-٣٠ – وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَضْحَكُ اللَّهُ إِلَى رَجُلَيْنِ يَقْتُلُ أَحَدُهُمَا الآخَرَ كِلاَهُمَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ يُقَاتِلُ هَذَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَيُقْتَلُ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى الْقَاتِلِ فَيُقَاتِلُ فَيُسْتَشْهَدُ

God even accepts the repentance of a disbelieving murderer

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah welcomes two men with a smile; one of whom kills the other and both of them enter Paradise. One fights in Allah's Cause and gets killed. Later on Allah forgives the 'killer who also get martyred (In Allah's Cause)."  

البخاري:٢٨٢٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

God laughs at the two men both of whom will enter Paradise (though) one of them kills the other. They said: Messenger of Allah, how is it? He said: One of them fights in the way of Allah, the Almighty and Exalted. and dies a martyr. Then God turns in mercy to the murderer who embraces Islam, fights in the way of Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, and dies a martyr.  

مسلم:١٨٩٠a – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْمَكِّيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

God laughs at the two men one of whom kills the other; both of them will enter Paradise. They (the Companions) said: How, Messenger of Allah? He said: One is slain (in the way of Allah) and enters Paradise. Then God forgives the other and guides him to Islam; then he fights in the way of Allah and dies a martyr.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يَضْحَكُ اللهُ إِلَى رَجُلَيْنِ يَقْتُلُ أَحَدُهُمَا الْآخَرَ كِلَاهُمَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ يُقَاتِلُ هَذَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَيُسْتَشْهَدُ قَالَ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ اللهُ عَلَى قَاتِلِهِ فَيُسْلِمُ فَيُقَاتِلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ حَتَّى يُسْتَشْهَدَ  

ahmad:8224 –

وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَضْحَكُ اللهُ لِرَجُلَيْنِ يَقْتُلُ أَحَدُهُمَا الْآخَرَ كِلَاهُمَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَالُوا كَيْفَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ يَقْتُلُ هَذَا فَيَلِجُ الْجَنَّةَ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ اللهُ عَلَى الْآخَرِ فَيَهْدِيهِ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ ثُمَّ يُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَيُسْتَشْهَدُ  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلَا، قَدْ يَجْمَعُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ بَيْنَ الْمُسْلِمِ وَقَاتِلِهِ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ، إِذْ سَدَّدَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ وَأَسْلَمَ

ibnhibban:215 – ʿUmar b. Saʿīd b. Sinān > Aḥmad b. Abū Bakr > Mālik > Abū al-Zinād > al-Aʿraj > Abū Hurayrah

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah laughs at two men. One of them kills the other, and both of them enter Paradise." They said, "How is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "This man is killed and enters Paradise, then Allah forgives the other and guides him to Islam, and then he fights in the cause of Allah and is martyred."
