15.64 It is recommended to send the sacrificial animal to the Haram for one who does not intend to go there himself; It is reommended to garland it and to make the garland, but the one who sends it does not enter a state of Ihram, and nothing is forbidden to him because of that

١٥۔٦٤ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ بَعْثِ الْهَدْىِ إِلَى الْحَرَمِ لِمَنْ لاَ يُرِيدُ الذَّهَابَ بِنَفْسِهِ وَاسْتِحْبَابِ تَقْلِيدِهِ وَفَتْلِ الْقَلاَئِدِ وَأَنَّ بَاعِثَهُ لاَ يَصِيرُ مُحْرِمًا وَلاَ يَحْرُمُ عَلَيْهِ شيء بِذَلِكَ

(831) bukhari:1696Abū Nuʿaym > Aflaḥ > al-Qāsim > ʿĀʾishah

I twisted with my own hands the garlands for the Budn of the Prophet ﷺ who garlanded and marked them, and then made them proceed to Mecca; Yet no permissible thing was regarded as illegal for him then.  

(٨٣١) البخاري:١٦٩٦حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَفْلَحُ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

فَتَلْتُ قَلاَئِدَ بُدْنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِيَدَىَّ ثُمَّ قَلَّدَهَا وَأَشْعَرَهَا وَأَهْدَاهَا فَمَا حَرُمَ عَلَيْهِ شَىْءٌ كَانَ أُحِلَّ لَهُ  

(832) bukhari:1700ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Bakr b. ʿAmr b. Ḥazm > ʿAmrah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Ziyād b. Abū Sufyān Katab > ʿĀʾishah In ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbbās > Man

That ʿAmra bint ʿAbdur-Rahman had told him, "Zaid bin Abu Sufyan wrote to ʿAisha that ʿAbdullah bin ʿAbbas had stated, 'Whoever sends his Hadi (to the Kaʿba), all the things which are illegal for a (pilgrim) become illegal for that person till he slaughters it (i.e. till the 10th of Dhul-Hijja).' " ʿAmra added, ʿAisha said, 'It is not like what Ibn ʿAbbas had said: I twisted the garlands of the Hadis of Messenger of Allah ﷺ with my own hands. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ put them round their necks with his own hands, sending them with my father; Yet nothing permitted by Allah was considered illegal for Allah's Apostle till he slaughtered the Hadis.' "  

(٨٣٢) البخاري:١٧٠٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ عَنْ عَمْرَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ زِيَادَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ كَتَبَ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ ؓ إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ

مَنْ أَهْدَى هَدْيًا حَرُمَ عَلَيْهِ مَا يَحْرُمُ عَلَى الْحَاجِّ حَتَّى يُنْحَرَ هَدْيُهُ قَالَتْ عَمْرَةُ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ ؓ لَيْسَ كَمَا قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَا فَتَلْتُ قَلاَئِدَ هَدْىِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِيَدَىَّ ثُمَّ قَلَّدَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِيَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ بَعَثَ بِهَا مَعَ أَبِي فَلَمْ يَحْرُمْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ شَىْءٌ أَحَلَّهُ اللَّهُ حَتَّى نُحِرَ الْهَدْىُ  

(833) bukhari:1689ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Abū al-Zinād > al-Aʿraj > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a man driving his Badana (sacrificial camel). He said, "Ride on it." The man said, "It is a Badana." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Ride on it." He (the man) said, "It is a Badana." The Prophet said, "Ride on it." And on the second or the third time he (the Prophet ﷺ ) added, "Woe to you."  

(٨٣٣) البخاري:١٦٨٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَأَى رَجُلاً يَسُوقُ بَدَنَةً فَقَالَ ارْكَبْهَا فَقَالَ إِنَّهَا بَدَنَةٌ فَقَالَ ارْكَبْهَا قَالَ إِنَّهَا بَدَنَةٌ قَالَ ارْكَبْهَا وَيْلَكَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ أَوْ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ  

(834) bukhari:1690Muslim b. Ibrāhīm > Hishām And Shuʿbah > Qatādah > Anas

The Prophet ﷺ saw a man driving a Badana. He said, "Ride on it." The man replied, "It is a Badana." The Prophet ﷺ said (again), "Ride on it." He (the man) said, "It is a Badana." The Prophet ﷺ said thrice, "Ride on it."  

(٨٣٤) البخاري:١٦٩٠حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ وَشُعْبَةُ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ رَأَى رَجُلاً يَسُوقُ بَدَنَةً فَقَالَ ارْكَبْهَا قَالَ إِنَّهَا بَدَنَةٌ قَالَ ارْكَبْهَا قَالَ إِنَّهَا بَدَنَةٌ قَالَ ارْكَبْهَا ثَلاَثًا  

(835) bukhari:1755Musaddad > Sufyān > Ibn Ṭāwus from his father > Ibn ʿAbbās > Umir al-Nās > Yakūn Ākhir ʿAhdihim Bi-al-Bayt Ilā > Khuffif

The people were ordered to perform the Tawaf of the Kaʿba (Tawaf-al-Wadaʿ) as the lastly thing, before leaving (Mecca), except the menstruating women who were excused.  

(٨٣٥) البخاري:١٧٥٥حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ

أُمِرَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يَكُونَ آخِرُ عَهْدِهِمْ بِالْبَيْتِ إِلاَّ أَنَّهُ خُفِّفَ عَنِ الْحَائِضِ۔  

(836) bukhari:328ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Bakr b. Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. Ḥazm from his father > ʿAmrah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman

(the wife of the Prophet) I told Messenger of Allah ﷺ that Safiya bint Huyai had got her menses. He said, "She will probably delay us. Did she perform Tawaf (Al-Ifada) with you?" We replied, "Yes." On that the Prophet ﷺ told her to depart.  

(٨٣٦) البخاري:٣٢٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَمْرَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ حُيَىٍّ قَدْ حَاضَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَعَلَّهَا تَحْبِسُنَا أَلَمْ تَكُنْ طَافَتْ مَعَكُنَّ فَقَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ فَاخْرُجِي  

(837) bukhari:1771ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣ from my father > al-Aʿmash > Ibrāhīm > al-Aswad > ʿĀʾishah > Ḥāḍat Ṣafiyyah Laylah al-Nafr > Mā Urānī Ilā Ḥābisatakum

Safiya got her menses on the night of Nafr (departure from Hajj), and she said, "I see that I will detain you." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Aqra Halqa! Did she perform the Tawaf on the Day of Nahr (slaughtering)?" Somebody replied in the affirmative. He said, "Then depart."

(Different narrators mentioned that) ʿAisha said, "We set out with Allah''s Apostle (from Medina) with the intention of performing Hajj only. When we reached Mecca, he ordered us to finish the Ihram. When it was the night of Nafr (departure), Safiya bint Huyay got her menses. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Halqa Aqra! I think that she will detain you," and added, "Did you perform the Tawaf (Al-Ifada) on the Day of Nahr (slaughtering)?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "Then depart." I said, "O Allah''s Apostle! I have not (done the Umra)." He replied, "Perform ʿUmra from Tanʿim." My brother went with me and we came across the Prophet ﷺ in the last part of the night. He said, "Wait at such and such a place."  

(٨٣٧) البخاري:١٧٧١حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

حَاضَتْ صَفِيَّةُ لَيْلَةَ النَّفْرِ فَقَالَتْ مَا أُرَانِي إِلاَّ حَابِسَتَكُمْ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «عَقْرَى، حَلْقَى، أَطَافَتْ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ؟» قِيلَ: نَعَمْ۔ قَالَ: «فَانْفِرِي۔»

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَزَادَنِي مُحَمَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَاضِرٌ حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ نَذْكُرُ إِلاَّ الْحَجَّ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَحِلَّ فَلَمَّا كَانَتْ لَيْلَةُ النَّفْرِ حَاضَتْ صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ حُيَىٍّ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «حَلْقَى، عَقْرَى، مَا أُرَاهَا إِلاَّ حَابِسَتَكُمْ۔» ثُمَّ قَالَ: «كُنْتِ طُفْتِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ؟» قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ۔ قَالَ: «فَانْفِرِي۔» قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنِّي لَمْ أَكُنْ حَلَلْتُ۔ قَالَ: «فَاعْتَمِرِي مِنَ التَّنْعِيمِ۔» فَخَرَجَ مَعَهَا أَخُوهَا فَلَقِينَاهُ مُدَّلِجًا۔ فَقَالَ: «مَوْعِدُكِ مَكَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا۔»  

(838) bukhari:505ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar

ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar said, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the Kaʿba along with Usama bin Zaid, Bilal and ʿUthman bin Talha Al-Hajabi and closed the door and stayed there for some time. I asked Bilal when he came out, 'What did the Prophet ﷺ do?' He replied, 'He offered prayer with one pillar to his left and one to his right and three behind.' In those days the Kaʿba was supported by six pillars." Malik said: "There were two pillars on his (the Prophet's) right side."  

(٨٣٨) البخاري:٥٠٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَخَلَ الْكَعْبَةَ وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ وَبِلاَلٌ وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ الْحَجَبِيُّ فَأَغْلَقَهَا عَلَيْهِ وَمَكَثَ فِيهَا فَسَأَلْتُ بِلاَلاً حِينَ خَرَجَ مَا صَنَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَالَ جَعَلَ عَمُودًا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَعَمُودًا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَثَلاَثَةَ أَعْمِدَةٍ وَرَاءَهُ وَكَانَ الْبَيْتُ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى سِتَّةِ أَعْمِدَةٍ ثُمَّ صَلَّى وَقَالَ لَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ وَقَالَ عَمُودَيْنِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ  

(839) bukhari:398Isḥāq b. Naṣr > ʿAbd al-Razzāq > Ibn Jurayj > ʿAṭāʾ > Ibn ʿAbbās

When the Prophet ﷺ entered the Kaʿba, he invoked Allah in each and every side of it and did not pray till he came out of it, and offered a two-rakʿat prayer facing the Kaʿba and said, "This is the Qibla."  

(٨٣٩) البخاري:٣٩٨حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْبَيْتَ دَعَا فِي نَوَاحِيهِ كُلِّهَا وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ حَتَّى خَرَجَ مِنْهُ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ رَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي قُبُلِ الْكَعْبَةِ وَقَالَ هَذِهِ الْقِبْلَةُ  

(840) bukhari:1600Musaddad > Khālid b. ʿAbdullāh > Ismāʿīl b. Abū Khālid > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Awfá

ʿAbdullah bin Abu ʿAufa said, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the ʿUmra. He performed Tawaf of the Kaʿba and offered two rakʿat behind the Maqam (Abraham's place) and was accompanied by those who were screening him from the people." Somebody asked ʿAbdullah, "Did Messenger of Allah ﷺ enter the Kaʿba?" ʿAbdullah replied in the negative.  

(٨٤٠) البخاري:١٦٠٠حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى قَالَ

اعْتَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَطَافَ بِالْبَيْتِ وَصَلَّى خَلْفَ الْمَقَامِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَمَعَهُ مَنْ يَسْتُرُهُ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ أَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْكَعْبَةَ قَالَ لاَ  

(841) bukhari:1585ʿUbayd b. Ismāʿīl > Abū Usāmah > Hishām from his father > ʿĀʾishah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Were your people not close to the Pre-Islamic period of ignorance, I would have demolished the Kaʿba and would have rebuilt it on its original foundations laid by Abraham (for Quraish had curtailed its building), and I would have built a back door (too)."  

(٨٤١) البخاري:١٥٨٥حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ قَالَ

لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَوْلاَ حَدَاثَةُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ لَنَقَضْتُ الْبَيْتَ ثُمَّ لَبَنَيْتُهُ عَلَى أَسَاسِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فَإِنَّ قُرَيْشًا اسْتَقْصَرَتْ بِنَاءَهُ وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ خَلْفًا قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ خَلْفًا يَعْنِي بَابًا  

(842) bukhari:1583ʿAbdullāh b. Maslamah > Mālik > Ibn Shihāb > Sālim b. ʿAbdullāh > ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad b. Abū Bakr Akhbar ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar > ʿĀʾishah Zawj

(the wife of the Prophet) that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Do you know that when your people (Quraish) rebuilt the Kaʿba, they decreased it from its original foundation laid by Abraham?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why don't you rebuild it on its original foundation laid by Abraham?" He replied, "Were it not for the fact that your people are close to the Pre-Islamic Period of ignorance (i.e. they have recently become Muslims) I would have done so." The sub-narrator, ʿAbdullah (bin ʿUmar ) stated: ʿAisha 'must have heard this from Messenger of Allah ﷺ for in my opinion Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not placed his hand over the two corners of the Kaʿba opposite Al-Hijr only because the Kaʿba was not rebuilt on its original foundations laid by Abraham.  

(٨٤٢) البخاري:١٥٨٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَخْبَرَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَهَا أَلَمْ تَرَىْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ لَمَّا بَنَوُا الْكَعْبَةَ اقْتَصَرُوا عَنْ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلاَ تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ لَوْلاَ حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ لَفَعَلْتُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ؓ لَئِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ ؓ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا أُرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ اسْتِلاَمَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ إِلاَّ أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يُتَمَّمْ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ  

(843) bukhari:1584Musaddad > Abū al-Aḥwaṣ > Ashʿath > al-Aswad b. Yazīd > ʿĀʾishah

I asked the Prophet ﷺ whether the round wall (near Kaʿba) was part of the Kaʿba. The Prophet ﷺ replied in the affirmative. I further said, "What is wrong with them, why have they not included it in the building of the Kaʿba?" He said, "Don't you see that your people (Quraish) ran short of money (so they could not include it inside the building of Kaʿba)?" I asked, "What about its gate? Why is it so high?" He replied, "Your people did this so as to admit into it whomever they liked and prevent whomever they liked. Were your people not close to the Pre-Islamic Period of ignorance (i.e. they have recently embraced Islam) and were I not afraid that they would dislike it, surely I would have included the (area of the) wall inside the building of the Kaʿba and I would have lowered its gate to the level of the ground."  

(٨٤٣) البخاري:١٥٨٤حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ حَدَّثَنَا أَشْعَثُ عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الْجَدْرِ أَمِنَ الْبَيْتِ هُوَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ فَمَا لَهُمْ لَمْ يُدْخِلُوهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ قَالَ إِنَّ قَوْمَكِ قَصَّرَتْ بِهِمُ النَّفَقَةُ قُلْتُ فَمَا شَأْنُ بَابِهِ مُرْتَفِعًا قَالَ فَعَلَ ذَلِكِ قَوْمُكِ لِيُدْخِلُوا مَنْ شَاءُوا وَيَمْنَعُوا مَنْ شَاءُوا وَلَوْلاَ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حَدِيثٌ عَهْدُهُمْ بِالْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَأَخَافُ أَنْ تُنْكِرَ قُلُوبُهُمْ أَنْ أُدْخِلَ الْجَدْرَ فِي الْبَيْتِ وَأَنْ أُلْصِقَ بَابَهُ بِالأَرْضِ  

(844) bukhari:1513ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Ibn Shihāb > Sulaymān b. Yasār > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbbās

Al-Fadl (his brother) was riding behind Messenger of Allah ﷺ and a woman from the tribe of Khath'am came and Al-Fadl started looking at her and she started looking at him. The Prophet ﷺ turned Al-Fadl's face to the other side. The woman said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The obligation of Hajj enjoined by Allah on His devotees has become due on my father and he is old and weak, and he cannot sit firm on the Mount; may I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Yes, you may." That happened during the Hajj-al-Wida (of the Prophet ﷺ ).  

(٨٤٤) البخاري:١٥١٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ

كَانَ الْفَضْلُ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ فَجَعَلَ الْفَضْلُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا وَتَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَصْرِفُ وَجْهَ الْفَضْلِ إِلَى الشِّقِّ الآخَرِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَثْبُتُ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ  

(845) bukhari:1854Mūsá b. Ismāʿīl > ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abū Salamah > Ibn Shihāb > Sulaymān b. Yasār > Ibn ʿAbbās > Jāʾat Āmraʾah from Khathʿam ʿĀm Ḥajjah al-Wadāʿ

Al-Fadl was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ and a woman from the tribe of Khath'am came up. Al-Fadl started looking at her and she looked at him. The Prophet ﷺ turned Al-Fadl's face to the other side. She said, "My father has come under Allah's obligation of performing Hajj but he is a very old man and cannot sit properly on his Mount. Shall I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Prophet ﷺ replied in the affirmative. That happened during Hajjat-al-Wadaʿ of the Prophet ﷺ .  

(٨٤٥) البخاري:١٨٥٤حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ خَثْعَمَ عَامَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فَرِيضَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ فِي الْحَجِّ أَدْرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَسْتَوِيَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَهَلْ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ  

(846) bukhari:7288Ismāʿīl > Mālik > Abū al-Zinād > al-Aʿraj > Abū Hurayrah

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave me as I leave you, for the people who were before you were ruined because of their questions and their differences over their prophets. So, if I forbid you to do something, then keep away from it. And if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can."  

(٨٤٦) البخاري:٧٢٨٨حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ دَعُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلاَفِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ فَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَىْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ وَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ  

(847) bukhari:1087Musaddad > Yaḥyá > ʿUbaydullāh > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

The Prophet ﷺ said, "A woman should not travel for more than three days except with a Dhi-Mahram."  

(٨٤٧) البخاري:١٠٨٧حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ تُسَافِرِ الْمَرْأَةُ ثَلاَثًا إِلاَّ مَعَ ذِي مَحْرَمٍ  

تَابَعَهُ أَحْمَدُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ
(848) bukhari:1864Sulaymān b. Ḥarb > Shuʿbah > ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr > Qazaʿah a freed slave of Ziyād

Abu Saʿid who participated in twelve Ghazawat with the Prophet ﷺ said, "I heard four things from Messenger of Allah ﷺ (or I narrate them from the Prophet ﷺ ) which won my admiration and appreciation. They are: -1. "No lady should travel without her husband or without a Dhu-Mahram for a two-days' journey. -2. No fasting is permissible on two days of ʿId-ul-Fitr, and ʿId-al-Adha. -3. No prayer (may be offered) after two prayers: after the ʿAsr prayer till the sun set and after the morning prayer till the sun rises. -4. Not to travel (for visiting) except for three mosques: Masjid-al-Haram (in Mecca), my Mosque (in Medina), and Masjid-al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem).  

(٨٤٨) البخاري:١٨٦٤حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ قَزَعَةَ مَوْلَى زِيَادٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ وَقَدْ غَزَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثِنْتَىْ عَشْرَةَ غَزْوَةً قَالَ أَرْبَعٌ سَمِعْتُهُنَّ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَوْ قَالَ يُحَدِّثُهُنَّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَعْجَبْنَنِي وَآنَقْنَنِي أَنْ لاَ تُسَافِرَ امْرَأَةٌ مَسِيرَةَ يَوْمَيْنِ لَيْسَ مَعَهَا زَوْجُهَا أَوْ ذُو مَحْرَمٍ وَلاَ صَوْمَ يَوْمَيْنِ الْفِطْرِ وَالأَضْحَى وَلاَ صَلاَةَ بَعْدَ صَلاَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ وَبَعْدَ الصُّبْحِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ وَلاَ تُشَدُّ الرِّحَالُ إِلاَّ إِلَى ثَلاَثَةِ مَسَاجِدَ مَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَمَسْجِدِي وَمَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى  

(849) bukhari:1088Ādam > Ibn Abū Dhiʾb > Saʿīd al-Maqburī from his father > Abū Hurayrah

The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel for one day and night except with a Mahram."  

(٨٤٩) البخاري:١٠٨٨حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْمَقْبُرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لاَ يَحِلُّ لاِمْرَأَةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ أَنْ تُسَافِرَ مَسِيرَةَ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ لَيْسَ مَعَهَا حُرْمَةٌ  

تَابَعَهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ وَسُهَيْلٌ وَمَالِكٌ عَنِ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ
(850) bukhari:3006Qutaybah b. Saʿīd > Sufyān > ʿAmr > Abū Maʿbad > Ibn ʿAbbās

That he heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "It is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman, and no lady should travel except with a Muhram (i.e. her husband or a person whom she cannot marry in any case for ever; e.g. her father, brother, etc.)." Then a man got up and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I have enlisted in the army for such-and-such Ghazwa and my wife is proceeding for Hajj." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Go, and perform the Hajj with your wife."  

(٨٥٠) البخاري:٣٠٠٦حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي مَعْبَدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ وَلاَ تُسَافِرَنَّ امْرَأَةٌ إِلاَّ وَمَعَهَا مَحْرَمٌ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اكْتُتِبْتُ فِي غَزْوَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا وَخَرَجَتِ امْرَأَتِي حَاجَّةً قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَحُجَّ مَعَ امْرَأَتِكَ  

(851) bukhari:6385Ismāʿīl > Mālik > Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar

Whenever Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a Ghazwa or Hajj or ʿUmra, he used to say, "Allahu Akbar," three times; whenever he went up a high place, he used to say, "La ilaha illal-lahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahu-l-mulk wa lahu-l-hamd, wa huwa'ala kulli Shai 'in qadir. Ayibuna ta'ibuna 'abiduna lirabbina hamidun. Sadaqa-l-lahu wa'dahu, wa nasaraʿAbdahu wa hazama-l-ahzaba wahdahu."  

(٨٥١) البخاري:٦٣٨٥حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا قَفَلَ مِنْ غَزْوٍ أَوْ حَجٍّ أَوْ عُمْرَةٍ يُكَبِّرُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَرَفٍ مِنَ الأَرْضِ ثَلاَثَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهْوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ وَهَزَمَ الأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ  

(852) bukhari:1532ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar > Rasūl

ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar' said, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ made his camel sit (i.e. he dismounted) at Al-Batha' in Dhul-Hulaifa and offered the prayer." ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar used to do the same.  

(٨٥٢) البخاري:١٥٣٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَاخَ بِالْبَطْحَاءِ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ فَصَلَّى بِهَا وَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ؓ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ  

(853) bukhari:1535Muḥammad b. Abū Bakr > Fuḍayl b. Sulaymān > Mūsá b. ʿUqbah > Sālim b. ʿAbdullāh from his father

Salim bin ʿAbdullah's father said, "The Prophet ﷺ said that while resting in the bottom of the valley at Muarras in Dhul-Hulaifa, he had been addressed in a dream: 'You are verily in a blessed valley.' " Salim made us to dismount from our camels at the place where ʿAbdullah used to dismount, aiming at the place where Messenger of Allah ﷺ had rested and it was below the Mosque situated in the middle of the valley in between them (the residence) and the road.  

(٨٥٣) البخاري:١٥٣٥حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؓ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ رُئِيَ وَهُوَ فِي مُعَرَّسٍ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ بِبَطْنِ الْوَادِي قِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّكَ بِبَطْحَاءَ مُبَارَكَةٍ وَقَدْ أَنَاخَ بِنَا سَالِمٌ يَتَوَخَّى بِالْمُنَاخِ الَّذِي كَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يُنِيخُ يَتَحَرَّى مُعَرَّسَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ أَسْفَلُ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الَّذِي بِبَطْنِ الْوَادِي بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الطَّرِيقِ وَسَطٌ مِنْ ذَلِكَ  

(854) bukhari:1622Yaḥyá b. Bukayr > al-Layth > Yūnus > Ibn Shihāb > Ḥumayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Abū Hurayrah from my father

In the year prior to the last Hajj of the Prophet ﷺ when Messenger of Allah ﷺ made Abu Bakr the leader of the pilgrims, the latter (Abu Bakr) sent me in the company of a group of people to make a public announcement: 'No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year, and no naked person is allowed to perform Tawaf of the Kaʿba.' (See Hadith No. 365 Vol. 1)  

(٨٥٤) البخاري:١٦٢٢حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ قَالَ يُونُسُ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ ؓ بَعَثَهُ فِي الْحَجَّةِ الَّتِي أَمَّرَهُ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ فِي رَهْطٍ يُؤَذِّنُ فِي النَّاسِ أَلاَ لاَ يَحُجُّ بَعْدَ الْعَامِ مُشْرِكٌ وَلاَ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ عُرْيَانٌ  

(855) bukhari:1773ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Suma a freed slave of Abū Bakr b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Abū Ṣāliḥ al-Sammān > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "(The performance of) ʿUmra is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise."  

(٨٥٥) البخاري:١٧٧٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ سُمَىٍّ مَوْلَى أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ السَّمَّانِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ الْعُمْرَةُ إِلَى الْعُمْرَةِ كَفَّارَةٌ لِمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَالْحَجُّ الْمَبْرُورُ لَيْسَ لَهُ جَزَاءٌ إِلاَّ الْجَنَّةُ  

(856) bukhari:1819Sulaymān b. Ḥarb > Shuʿbah > Manṣūr > Abū Ḥāzim > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever performs Hajj to this House (Kaʿba) and does not approach his wife for sexual relations nor commits sins (while performing Hajj), he will come out as sinless as a newlyborn child. (Just delivered by his mother).  

(٨٥٦) البخاري:١٨١٩حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ حَجَّ هَذَا الْبَيْتَ فَلَمْ يَرْفُثْ وَلَمْ يَفْسُقْ رَجَعَ كَمَا وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ  

(857) bukhari:1588Aṣbagh > Ibn Wahb > Yūnus > Ibn Shihāb > ʿAlī b. Ḥusayn > ʿAmr b. ʿUthmān > Usāmah b. Zayd > Yā Rasūl

I asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Where will you stay in Mecca? Will you stay in your house in Mecca?" He replied, "Has ʿAqil left any property or house?" ʿAqil along with Talib had inherited the property of Abu Talib. Jafar and ʿAli did not inherit anything as they were Muslims and the other two were non-believers. ʿUmar bin Al-Khattab used to say, "A believer cannot inherit (anything from an) infidel." Ibn Shihab, (a sub-narrator) said, "They (ʿUmar and others) derived the above verdict from Allah's Statement: "Verily! those who believed and Emigrated and strove with their life And property in Allah's Cause, And those who helped (the emigrants) And gave them their places to live in, These are (all) allies to one another." (8.72)  

(٨٥٧) البخاري:١٥٨٨حَدَّثَنَا أَصْبَغُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ؓ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيْنَ تَنْزِلُ فِي دَارِكَ بِمَكَّةَ فَقَالَ وَهَلْ تَرَكَ عَقِيلٌ مِنْ رِبَاعٍ أَوْ دُورٍ وَكَانَ عَقِيلٌ وَرِثَ أَبَا طَالِبٍ هُوَ وَطَالِبٌ وَلَمْ يَرِثْهُ جَعْفَرٌ وَلاَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ شَيْئًا لأَنَّهُمَا كَانَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ وَكَانَ عَقِيلٌ وَطَالِبٌ كَافِرَيْنِ فَكَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ يَقُولُ لاَ يَرِثُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْكَافِرَ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ وَكَانُوا يَتَأَوَّلُونَ قَوْلَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَهَاجَرُوا وَجَاهَدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِينَ آوَوْا وَنَصَرُوا أُولَئِكَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ} الآيَةَ  

(858) bukhari:3933Ibrāhīm b. Ḥamzah > Ḥātim > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Ḥumayd al-Zuhrī > ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Yasʾal al-Sāʾib Ibn Ukht al-Namir Mā

I heard ʿUmar bin ʿAbdul-Aziz asking As-Sa'ib, the nephew of An-Nimr. "What have you heard about residing in Mecca?" The other said, "I heard Al-Ala bin Al-Hadrami saying, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: An Emigrant is allowed to stay in Mecca for three days after departing from Mina (i.e. after performing all the ceremonies of Hajj)"  

(٨٥٨) البخاري:٣٩٣٣حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ يَسْأَلُ السَّائِبَ ابْنَ أُخْتِ النَّمِرِ مَا سَمِعْتَ فِي سُكْنَى مَكَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْعَلاَءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثَلاَثٌ لِلْمُهَاجِرِ بَعْدَ الصَّدَرِ  

(859) bukhari:1834ʿUthmān b. Abū Shaybah > Jarīr > Manṣūr > Mujāhid > Ṭāwus > Ibn ʿAbbās

On the day of the conquest of Mecca, the Prophet ﷺ said, "There is no more emigration (from Mecca) but Jihad and intentions, and whenever you are called for Jihad, you should go immediately. No doubt, Allah has made this place (Mecca) a sanctuary since the creation of the heavens and the earth and will remain a sanctuary till the Day of Resurrection as Allah has ordained its sanctity. Fighting was not permissible in it for anyone before me, and even for me it was allowed only for a portion of a day. So, it is a sanctuary with Allah's sanctity till the Day of Resurrection. Its thorns should not be uprooted and its game should not be chased; and its luqata (fallen things) should not be picked up except by one who would announce that publicly, and its vegetation (grass etc.) should not be cut." Al-ʿAbbas said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Except Al-Idhkhir, (for it is used by their blacksmiths and for their domestic purposes)." So, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir."  

(٨٥٩) البخاري:١٨٣٤حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَوْمَ افْتَتَحَ مَكَّةَ لاَ هِجْرَةَ وَلَكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّةٌ وَإِذَا اسْتُنْفِرْتُمْ فَانْفِرُوا فَإِنَّ هَذَا بَلَدٌ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَحِلَّ الْقِتَالُ فِيهِ لأَحَدٍ قَبْلِي وَلَمْ يَحِلَّ لِي إِلاَّ سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ فَهُوَ حَرَامٌ بِحُرْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ يُعْضَدُ شَوْكُهُ وَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهُ وَلاَ يَلْتَقِطُ لُقَطَتَهُ إِلاَّ مَنْ عَرَّفَهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى خَلاَهَا قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّهُ لِقَيْنِهِمْ وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ قَالَ قَالَ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ  

(860) bukhari:104ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > al-Layth > Saʿīd > Abū Shurayḥ

Abu Shuraih said, "When ʿAmr bin Saʿid was sending the troops to Mecca (to fight ʿAbdullah bin Az- Zubair) I said to him, 'O chief! Allow me to tell you what the Prophet ﷺ said on the day following the conquests of Mecca. My ears heard and my heart comprehended, and I saw him with my own eyes, when he said it. He glorified and praised Allah and then said, "Allah and not the people has made Mecca a sanctuary. So anybody who has belief in Allah and the Last Day (i.e. a Muslim) should neither shed blood in it nor cut down its trees. If anybody argues that fighting is allowed in Mecca as Messenger of Allah ﷺ did fight (in Mecca), tell him that Allah gave permission to His Apostle, but He did not give it to you. The Prophet ﷺ added: Allah allowed me only for a few hours on that day (of the conquest) and today (now) its sanctity is the same (valid) as it was before. So it is incumbent upon those who are present to convey it (this information) to those who are absent." Abu- Shuraih was asked, "What did ʿAmr reply?" He said ʿAmr said, "O Abu Shuraih! I know better than you (in this respect). Mecca does not give protection to one who disobeys (Allah) or runs after committing murder, or theft (and takes refuge in Mecca).  

(٨٦٠) البخاري:١٠٤حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدٌ عَنْ أَبِي شُرَيْحٍ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ وَهْوَ يَبْعَثُ الْبُعُوثَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ ائْذَنْ لِي أَيُّهَا الأَمِيرُ أُحَدِّثْكَ قَوْلاً قَامَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْغَدَ مِنْ يَوْمِ الْفَتْحِ سَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنَاىَ وَوَعَاهُ قَلْبِي وَأَبْصَرَتْهُ عَيْنَاىَ حِينَ تَكَلَّمَ بِهِ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ مَكَّةَ حَرَّمَهَا اللَّهُ وَلَمْ يُحَرِّمْهَا النَّاسُ فَلاَ يَحِلُّ لاِمْرِئٍ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ أَنْ يَسْفِكَ بِهَا دَمًا وَلاَ يَعْضِدَ بِهَا شَجَرَةً فَإِنْ أَحَدٌ تَرَخَّصَ لِقِتَالِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيهَا فَقُولُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَذِنَ لِرَسُولِهِ وَلَمْ يَأْذَنْ لَكُمْ وَإِنَّمَا أَذِنَ لِي فِيهَا سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ ثُمَّ عَادَتْ حُرْمَتُهَا الْيَوْمَ كَحُرْمَتِهَا بِالأَمْسِ وَلْيُبَلِّغِ الشَّاهِدُ الْغَائِبَ فَقِيلَ لأَبِي شُرَيْحٍ مَا قَالَ عَمْرٌو قَالَ أَنَا أَعْلَمُ مِنْكَ يَا أَبَا شُرَيْحٍ لاَ يُعِيذُ عَاصِيًا وَلاَ فَارًّا بِدَمٍ وَلاَ فَارًّا بِخَرْبَةٍ  

(861) bukhari:2434Yaḥyá b. Mūsá > al-Walīd b. Muslim > al-Awzāʿī > Yaḥyá b. Abū Kathīr > Abū Salamah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Abū Hurayrah

When Allah gave victory to His Apostle over the people of Mecca, Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up among the people and after glorifying Allah, said, "Allah has prohibited fighting in Mecca and has given authority to His Apostle and the believers over it, so fighting was illegal for anyone before me, and was made legal for me for a part of a day, and it will not be legal for anyone after me. Its game should not be chased, its thorny bushes should not be uprooted, and picking up its fallen things is not allowed except for one who makes public announcement for it, and he whose relative is murdered has the option either to accept a compensation for it or to retaliate." Al-ʿAbbas said, "Except Al-Idhkhir, for we use it in our graves and houses." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Except Al-Idhkhir." Abu Shah, a Yemenite, stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Get it written for me." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write it for Abu Shah." (The sub-narrator asked Al-Auza'i): What did he mean by saying, "Get it written, O Allah's Apostle?" He replied, "The speech which he had heard from Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."  

(٨٦١) البخاري:٢٤٣٤حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ

لَمَّا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ قَامَ فِي النَّاسِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَسَ عَنْ مَكَّةَ الْفِيلَ وَسَلَّطَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَإِنَّهَا لاَ تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ كَانَ قَبْلِي وَإِنَّهَا أُحِلَّتْ لِي سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ وَإِنَّهَا لاَ تَحِلُّ لأَحَدٍ بَعْدِي فَلاَ يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلاَ يُخْتَلَى شَوْكُهَا وَلاَ تَحِلُّ سَاقِطَتُهَا إِلاَّ لِمُنْشِدٍ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ لَهُ قَتِيلٌ فَهْوَ بِخَيْرِ النَّظَرَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ يُفْدَى وَإِمَّا أَنْ يُقِيدَ فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَإِنَّا نَجْعَلُهُ لِقُبُورِنَا وَبُيُوتِنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلاَّ الإِذْخِرَ فَقَامَ أَبُو شَاهٍ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ اكْتُبُوا لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اكْتُبُوا لأَبِي شَاهٍ قُلْتُ لِلأَوْزَاعِيِّ مَا قَوْلُهُ اكْتُبُوا لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هَذِهِ الْخُطْبَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعَهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ  

(862) bukhari:1846ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Ibn Shihāb > Anas b. Mālik

Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Mecca in the year of its Conquest wearing an Arabian helmet on his head and when the Prophet ﷺ took it off, a person came and said, "Ibn Khatal is holding the covering of the Kaʿba (taking refuge in the Kaʿba)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Kill him."  

(٨٦٢) البخاري:١٨٤٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَخَلَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ وَعَلَى رَأْسِهِ الْمِغْفَرُ فَلَمَّا نَزَعَهُ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ ابْنَ خَطَلٍ مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِأَسْتَارِ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ اقْتُلُوهُ  

(863) bukhari:2129Mūsá > Wuhayb > ʿAmr b. Yaḥyá > ʿAbbād b. Tamīm al-Anṣārī > ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The Prophet ﷺ Abraham made Mecca a sanctuary, and asked for Allah's blessing in it. I made Medina a sanctuary as Abraham made Mecca a sanctuary and I asked for Allah's Blessing in its measures the Mudd and the Sa as Abraham did for Mecca.  

(٨٦٣) البخاري:٢١٢٩حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ؓ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ وَدَعَا لَهَا وَحَرَّمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ كَمَا حَرَّمَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ مَكَّةَ وَدَعَوْتُ لَهَا فِي مُدِّهَا وَصَاعِهَا مِثْلَ مَا دَعَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ لِمَكَّةَ  

(864) bukhari:5425Qutaybah > Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar > ʿAmr b. Abū ʿAmr a freed slave of al-Muṭṭalib b. ʿAbdullāh b. Ḥanṭab > Anas b. Mālik

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Abu Talha, "Seek one of your boys to serve me." Abu Talha mounted me behind him (on his riding animal) and took me (to the Prophet ﷺ ). So I used to serve Messenger of Allah ﷺ whenever he dismounted (to stay somewhere). I used to hear him saying very often, "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from, having worries sadness, helplessness, laziness, miserliness, cowardice, from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by other persons unjustly." I kept on serving till we -returned from the battle of Khaibar. The Prophet ﷺ then brought Safiyya bint Huyai whom he had won from the war booty. I saw him folding up a gown or a garment for her to sit on behind him (on his shecamel). When he reached As-Sahba', he prepared Hais and placed it on a dining sheet. Then he sent me to invite men, who (came and) ate; and that was his and Safiyya's wedding banquet. Then the Prophet proceeded, and when he saw (noticed) the mountain of Uhud, he said, "This mountain loves us, and we love it." When we approached Medina, he said, "O Allah! I make the area between its two mountains a sanctuary as Abraham has made Mecca a sanctuary. O Allah! Bless their Mudd and Sa (special kinds of measure).  

(٨٦٤) البخاري:٥٤٢٥حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو مَوْلَى الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَنْطَبٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْتَمِسْ غُلاَمًا مِنْ غِلْمَانِكُمْ يَخْدُمُنِي فَخَرَجَ بِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يُرْدِفُنِي وَرَاءَهُ فَكُنْتُ أَخْدُمُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كُلَّمَا نَزَلَ فَكُنْتُ أَسْمَعُهُ يُكْثِرُ أَنْ يَقُولَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَخْدُمُهُ حَتَّى أَقْبَلْنَا مِنْ خَيْبَرَ وَأَقْبَلَ بِصَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ حُيَىٍّ قَدْ حَازَهَا فَكُنْتُ أَرَاهُ يُحَوِّي وَرَاءَهُ بِعَبَاءَةٍ أَوْ بِكِسَاءٍ ثُمَّ يُرْدِفُهَا وَرَاءَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالصَّهْبَاءِ صَنَعَ حَيْسًا فِي نِطَعٍ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَنِي فَدَعَوْتُ رِجَالاً فَأَكَلُوا وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ بِنَاءَهُ بِهَا ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ حَتَّى إِذَا بَدَا لَهُ أُحُدٌ قَالَ هَذَا جَبَلٌ يُحِبُّنَا وَنُحِبُّهُ فَلَمَّا أَشْرَفَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُحَرِّمُ مَا بَيْنَ جَبَلَيْهَا مِثْلَ مَا حَرَّمَ بِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمُ مَكَّةَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِي مُدِّهِمْ وَصَاعِهِمْ  

(865) bukhari:7306Mūsá b. Ismāʿīl > ʿAbd al-Wāḥid > ʿĀṣim

I said to Anas, "Did Messenger of Allah ﷺ make Medina a sanctuary?" He replied, "Yes, (Medina is a sanctuary from such-and-such place to such-and-such place. It is forbidden to cut its trees, and whoever innovates an heresy in it or commits a sin therein, will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people." Then Musa bin Anas told me that Anas added, "..... or gives refuge to such an heretic or a sinner..."  

(٨٦٥) البخاري:٧٣٠٦حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ قَالَ

قُلْتُ لأَنَسٍ أَحَرَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ قَالَ نَعَمْ مَا بَيْنَ كَذَا إِلَى كَذَا لاَ يُقْطَعُ شَجَرُهَا مَنْ أَحْدَثَ فِيهَا حَدَثًا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ قَالَ عَاصِمٌ فَأَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ أَنَسٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَوْ آوَى مُحْدِثًا  

(866) bukhari:2130ʿAbdullāh b. Maslamah > Mālik > Isḥāq b. ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Ṭalḥah > Anas b. Mālik

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah bestow your blessings on their measures, bless their Mudd and Sa." The Prophet ﷺ meant the people of Medina.  

(٨٦٦) البخاري:٢١٣٠حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِي مِكْيَالِهِمْ وَبَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِي صَاعِهِمْ وَمُدِّهِمْ يَعْنِي أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ  

(868) bukhari:7300ʿUmar b. Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth from my father > al-Aʿmash > Ibrāhīm al-Taymī from my father > Khaṭabanā ʿAlī > Minbar from Ājur And ʿAlayh Sayf Fīh Ṣaḥīfah Muʿallaqah

ʿAli addressed us while he was standing on a brick pulpit and carrying a sword from which was hanging a scroll He said "By Allah, we have no book to read except Allah's Book and whatever is on this scroll," And then he unrolled it, and behold, in it was written what sort of camels were to be given as blood money, and there was also written in it: 'Medina is a sanctuary form 'Air (mountain) to such and such place so whoever innovates in it an heresy or commits a sin therein, he will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people and Allah will not accept his compulsory or optional good deeds.' There was also written in it: 'The asylum (pledge of protection) granted by any Muslims is one and the same, (even a Muslim of the lowest status is to be secured and respected by all the other Muslims, and whoever betrays a Muslim in this respect (by violating the pledge) will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will not accept his compulsory or optional good deeds.' There was also written in it: 'Whoever (freed slave) befriends (takes as masters) other than his real masters (manumitters) without their permission will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will not accept his compulsory or optional good deeds. ' (See Hadith No. 94, Vol. 3)  

(٨٦٨) البخاري:٧٣٠٠حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ التَّيْمِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ

خَطَبَنَا عَلِيٌّ ؓ عَلَى مِنْبَرٍ مِنْ آجُرٍّ وَعَلَيْهِ سَيْفٌ فِيهِ صَحِيفَةٌ مُعَلَّقَةٌ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا عِنْدَنَا مِنْ كِتَابٍ يُقْرَأُ إِلاَّ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ وَمَا فِي هَذِهِ الصَّحِيفَةِ فَنَشَرَهَا فَإِذَا فِيهَا أَسْنَانُ الإِبِلِ وَإِذَا فِيهَا الْمَدِينَةُ حَرَمٌ مِنْ عَيْرٍ إِلَى كَذَا فَمَنْ أَحْدَثَ فِيهَا حَدَثًا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لاَ يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلاَ عَدْلاً وَإِذَا فِيهِ ذِمَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَاحِدَةٌ يَسْعَى بِهَا أَدْنَاهُمْ فَمَنْ أَخْفَرَ مُسْلِمًا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لاَ يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلاَ عَدْلاً وَإِذَا فِيهَا مَنْ وَالَى قَوْمًا بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ مَوَالِيهِ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لاَ يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلاَ عَدْلاً  

(869) bukhari:1873ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Ibn Shihāb > Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab > Abū Hurayrah

If I saw deers grazing in Medina, I would not chase them, for Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "(Medina) is a sanctuary between its two mountains."  

(٨٦٩) البخاري:١٨٧٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ لَوْ رَأَيْتُ الظِّبَاءَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ تَرْتَعُ مَا ذَعَرْتُهَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا بَيْنَ لاَبَتَيْهَا حَرَامٌ  

(870) bukhari:6372Muḥammad b. Yūsuf > Sufyān > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > ʿĀʾishah

The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah! Make us love Medina as You made us love Mecca, or more, and transfer the fever that is in it, to Al-Juhfa. O Allah! Bless our Mudd and our Sam' (kinds of measures).  

(٨٧٠) البخاري:٦٣٧٢حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اللَّهُمَّ حَبِّبْ إِلَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ كَمَا حَبَّبْتَ إِلَيْنَا مَكَّةَ أَوْ أَشَدَّ وَانْقُلْ حُمَّاهَا إِلَى الْجُحْفَةِ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مُدِّنَا وَصَاعِنَا  

(871) bukhari:1880Ismāʿīl > Mālik > Nuʿaym b. ʿAbdullāh al-Mujmir > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are angels guarding the entrances (or roads) of Medina, neither plague nor Ad-Dajjal will be able to enter it."  

(٨٧١) البخاري:١٨٨٠حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُجْمِرِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى أَنْقَابِ الْمَدِينَةِ مَلاَئِكَةٌ لاَ يَدْخُلُهَا الطَّاعُونُ وَلاَ الدَّجَّالُ  

(872) bukhari:1871ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > Abū al-Ḥubāb Saʿīd b. Yasār > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I was ordered to migrate to a town which will swallow (conquer) other towns and is called Yathrib and that is Medina, and it turns out (bad) persons as a furnace removes the impurities of iron.  

(٨٧٢) البخاري:١٨٧١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحُبَابِ سَعِيدَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ يَقُولُ

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُمِرْتُ بِقَرْيَةٍ تَأْكُلُ الْقُرَى يَقُولُونَ يَثْرِبُ وَهْىَ الْمَدِينَةُ تَنْفِي النَّاسَ كَمَا يَنْفِي الْكِيرُ خَبَثَ الْحَدِيدِ  

(873) bukhari:7211ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Muḥammad b. al-Munkadir > Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh

A bedouin gave the Pledge of allegiance to Messenger of Allah ﷺ for Islam. Then the bedouin got fever at Medina, came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Cancel my Pledge," But Allah's Apostle refused. Then he came to him (again) and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Cancel my Pledge." But the Prophet ﷺ refused Then he came to him (again) and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Cancel my Pledge." But the Prophet ﷺ refused. The bedouin finally went out (of Medina) whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Medina is like a pair of bellows (furnace): It expels its impurities and brightens and clears its good.  

(٨٧٣) البخاري:٧٢١١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

أَنَّ أَعْرَابِيًّا بَايَعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ فَأَصَابَ الأَعْرَابِيَّ وَعْكٌ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَأَتَى الأَعْرَابِيُّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَقِلْنِي بَيْعَتِي فَأَبَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ فَقَالَ أَقِلْنِي بَيْعَتِي فَأَبَى ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ فَقَالَ أَقِلْنِي بَيْعَتِي فَأَبَى فَخَرَجَ الأَعْرَابِيُّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا الْمَدِينَةُ كَالْكِيرِ تَنْفِي خَبَثَهَا وَيَنْصَعُ طِيبُهَا  

(874) bukhari:4589Muḥammad b. Bashhār > Ghundar And ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Shuʿbah > ʿAdī > ʿAbdullāh b. Yazīd > Zayd

Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ returned from the battle of Uhud (i.e. refused to fight) whereupon the Muslims got divided into two parties; one of them was in favor of their execution and the other was not in favour of it. So there ware revealed: "Then what is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties about the hypocrites?" (4.88). Then the Prophet ﷺ said "It (i.e. Medina) is a Taybah (good), it expels impurities as the fire expels the impurities of silver."  

(٨٧٤) البخاري:٤٥٨٩حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَدِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِت ؓ {فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ}

رَجَعَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِنْ أُحُدٍ وَكَانَ النَّاسُ فِيهِمْ فِرْقَتَيْنِ فَرِيقٌ يَقُولُ اقْتُلْهُمْ وَفَرِيقٌ يَقُولُ لاَ۔ فَنَزَلَتْ {فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ} وَقَالَ: «إِنَّهَا طَيْبَةُ: تَنْفِي الْخَبَثَ كَمَا تَنْفِي النَّارُ خَبَثَ الْفِضَّةِ۔»  

(875) bukhari:1877Ḥusayn b. Ḥurayth > al-Faḍl > Juʿayd > ʿĀʾishah > Saʿd

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "None plots against the people of Medina but that he will be dissolved (destroyed) like the salt is dissolved in water."  

(٨٧٥) البخاري:١٨٧٧حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ عَنْ جُعَيْدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ سَعْدًا ؓ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ يَكِيدُ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَحَدٌ إِلاَّ انْمَاعَ كَمَا يَنْمَاعُ الْمِلْحُ فِي الْمَاءِ  

(876) bukhari:1875ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr > Sufyān b. Abū Zuhayr

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Yemen will be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families, and those who will obey them to migrate (to Yemen) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew. Sham will also be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families and those who will obey them, to migrate (to Sham) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew. 'Iraq will be conquered and some people will migrate (from Medina) and will urge their families and those who will obey them to migrate (to 'Iraq) although Medina will be better for them; if they but knew."  

(٨٧٦) البخاري:١٨٧٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ أَبِي زُهَيْرٍ ؓ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تُفْتَحُ الْيَمَنُ فَيَأْتِي قَوْمٌ يُبِسُّونَ فَيَتَحَمَّلُونَ بِأَهْلِيهِمْ وَمَنْ أَطَاعَهُمْ وَالْمَدِينَةُ خَيْرٌ لَهُمْ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ وَتُفْتَحُ الشَّأْمُ فَيَأْتِي قَوْمٌ يُبِسُّونَ فَيَتَحَمَّلُونَ بِأَهْلِيهِمْ وَمَنْ أَطَاعَهُمْ وَالْمَدِينَةُ خَيْرٌ لَهُمْ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ وَتُفْتَحُ الْعِرَاقُ فَيَأْتِي قَوْمٌ يُبِسُّونَ فَيَتَحَمَّلُونَ بِأَهْلِيهِمْ وَمَنْ أَطَاعَهُمْ وَالْمَدِينَةُ خَيْرٌ لَهُمْ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ  

(877) bukhari:1874Abū al-Yamān > Shuʿayb > al-Zuhrī > Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab > Abū Hurayrah

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The people will leave Medina in spite of the best state it will have, and none except the wild birds and the beasts of prey will live in it, and the last persons who will die will be two shepherds from the tribe of Muzaina, who will be driving their sheep towards Medina, but will find nobody in it, and when they reach the valley of Thaniyat-al-Wadaʿ, they will fall down on their faces dead."  

(٨٧٧) البخاري:١٨٧٤حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَتْرُكُونَ الْمَدِينَةَ عَلَى خَيْرِ مَا كَانَتْ لاَ يَغْشَاهَا إِلاَّ الْعَوَافِ يُرِيدُ عَوَافِيَ السِّبَاعِ وَالطَّيْرِ وَآخِرُ مَنْ يُحْشَرُ رَاعِيَانِ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ يُرِيدَانِ الْمَدِينَةَ يَنْعِقَانِ بِغَنَمِهِمَا فَيَجِدَانِهَا وَحْشًا حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَا ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ خَرَّا عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمَا  

(878) bukhari:1195ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Bakr > ʿAbbād b. Tamīm > ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd al-Māzinī

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Between my house and the pulpit there is a garden of the gardens of Paradise."  

(٨٧٨) البخاري:١١٩٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْمَازِنِيِّ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَا بَيْنَ بَيْتِي وَمِنْبَرِي رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ  

(879) bukhari:1196Musaddad > Yaḥyá > ʿUbaydullāh > Khubayb b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Ḥafṣ b. ʿĀṣim > Abū Hurayrah

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Between my house and my pulpit there is a garden of the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit is on my fountain tank (i.e. Al-Kauthar)."  

(٨٧٩) البخاري:١١٩٦حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي خُبَيْبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا بَيْنَ بَيْتِي وَمِنْبَرِي رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ وَمِنْبَرِي عَلَى حَوْضِي  

(880) bukhari:4422Khālid b. Makhlad > Sulaymān > ʿAmr b. Yaḥyá > ʿAbbās b. Sahl b. Saʿd > Abū Ḥumayd

We returned in the company of the Prophet ﷺ from the Ghazwa of Tabuk, and when we looked upon Medina, the Prophet ﷺ said, "This is Taba (i.e. Medina), and this is Uhud, a mountain that loves us and is loved by us."  

(٨٨٠) البخاري:٤٤٢٢حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبَّاسِ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ

أَقْبَلْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ حَتَّى إِذَا أَشْرَفْنَا عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ هَذِهِ طَابَةُ وَهَذَا أُحُدٌ جَبَلٌ يُحِبُّنَا وَنُحِبُّهُ  

(881) bukhari:1190ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > Zayd b. Rabāḥ And ʿUbayd Allāh b. Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Aghar > Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Aghar > Abū Hurayrah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "One prayer in my Mosque is better than one thousand prayers in any other mosque except in al-Masjid aI-Ḥarām."  

(٨٨١) البخاري:١١٩٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ وَعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَغَرِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَغَرِّ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ صَلاَةٌ فِي مَسْجِدِي هَذَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ صَلاَةٍ فِيمَا سِوَاهُ إِلاَّ الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ
