Once, while I was sitting beside Zaid bin Al-Arqam, he was asked, "How many Ghazwat did the Prophet undertake?" Zaid replied, "Nineteen." They said, "In how many Ghazwat did you join him?" He replied, "Seventeen." I asked, "Which of these was the first?" He replied, "Al-ʿAshira or Al- ʿAshiru."
عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ كُنْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ كَمْ غَزَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِنْ غَزْوَةٍ قَالَ تِسْعَ عَشْرَةَ قِيلَ كَمْ غَزَوْتَ أَنْتَ مَعَهُ قَالَ سَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ قُلْتُ فَأَيُّهُمْ كَانَتْ أَوَّلَ قَالَ الْعُسَيْرَةُ أَوِ الْعُشَيْرُ فَذَكَرْتُ لِقَتَادَةَ فَقَالَ الْعُشَيْرُ
15.36 The virtue of the Umrah performed during Ramadan
١٥۔٣٦ باب فَضْلِ الْعُمْرَةِ فِي رَمَضَانَ
15.37 It is recommended to enter Makkah from the Upper Mountain Pass and to leave from the Lower Mountain Pass; Entering a city via a route different than the one by which you leave it
١٥۔٣٧ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ دُخُولِ مَكَّةَ مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ الْعُلْيَا وَالْخُرُوجِ مِنْهَا مِنَ الثَّنِيَّةِ السُّفْلَى وَدُخُولِ بَلْدَةٍ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ غَيْرِ الَّتِي خَرَجَ مِنْهَا
15.38 It is recommended to stay overnight in Dhu Tuwa when intending to enter Makkah, and to perform Ghusl before entering it, and to enter it by day
١٥۔٣٨ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ الْمَبِيتِ بِذِي طَوًى عِنْدَ إِرَادَةِ دُخُولِ مَكَّةَ وَالاِغْتِسَالِ لِدُخُولِهَا نَهَارًا
15.39 Raml (walking rapidly) is recommended in the Tawaf of Umrah, and in the first Tawaf of Hajj
١٥۔٣٩ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ الرَّمَلِ فِي الطَّوَافِ وَالْعُمْرَةِ وَفِي الطَّوَافِ الأَوَّلِ فِي الْحَجِّ
15.40 It is recommended to touch the two Yemeni Corners in Tawaf and not the other two corners
١٥۔٤٠ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ اسْتِلاَمِ الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْيَمَانِيَيْنِ فِي الطَّوَافِ دُونَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ الآخَرَيْن
15.41 It is recommended to kiss the black stone during circumambulation (Tawaf)
١٥۔٤١ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ تَقْبِيلِ الْحَجَرِ الأَسْوَدِ فِي الطَّوَافِ
15.42 It is permissible to circumambulate the Ka'bah on a camel and the like, And for one who is riding to touch the (black) stone with a crooked staff and the like.
١٥۔٤٢ باب جَوَازِ الطَّوَافِ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ وَغَيْرِهِ وَاسْتِلاَمِ الْحَجَرِ بِمِحْجَنٍ وَنَحْوِهِ لِلرَّاكِبِ
15.43 Clarifying that Sa'i between As-safa and Al-Marwah is a pillar of Hajj, without which Hajj is not valid
١٥۔٤٣ باب بَيَانِ أَنَّ السَّعْىَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ رُكْنٌ لاَ يَصِحُّ الْحَجُّ إِلاَّ بِهِ
15.45 It is recommended for the pilgrim to continue reciting the Talbiyah until he starts stoning Jamrat Al-'Aqabah on the day of sacrifice
١٥۔٤٥ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ إِدَامَةِ الْحَاجِّ التَّلْبِيَةَ حَتَّى يَشْرَعَ فِي رَمْىِ جَمْرَةِ الْعَقَبَةِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ
15.46 The Talbiyah and the Takbir when going from Mina to 'Arafat on the day of 'Arafat
١٥۔٤٦ باب التَّلْبِيَةِ وَالتَّكْبِيرِ فِي الذِّهَابِ مِنْ مِنًى إِلَى عَرَفَاتٍ فِي يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ
15.47 Departing from 'Arafat to Al-Muzdalifah. It is recommended to pray Maghrib and 'Isha together in Al-Muzdalifah on this night
١٥۔٤٧ باب الإِفَاضَةِ مِنْ عَرَفَاتٍ إِلَى الْمُزْدَلِفَةِ وَاسْتِحْبَابِ صَلاَتَىِ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ جَمْعًا بِالْمُزْدَلِفَةِ فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ
15.48 It is recommended to pray Subh when it is still dark on the day of sacrifice in Al-Muzdalifah, and to do it very early after ascertaining that dawn has broken
١٥۔٤٨ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ زِيَادَةِ التَّغْلِيسِ بِصَلاَةِ الصُّبْحِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ بِالْمُزْدَلِفَةِ وَالْمُبَالَغَةِ فِيهِ بَعْدَ تَحَقُّقِ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ
15.49 It is recommended to send the weak among women and others ahead from Al-Muzdalifah to Mina at the end of the night, before it gets crowded, but it is recommended for others to stay there until they have prayed Subh in Al-Muzdalifah
١٥۔٤٩ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ تَقْدِيمِ دَفْعِ الضَّعَفَةِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَغَيْرِهِنَّ مِنْ مُزْدَلِفَةَ إِلَى مِنًى فِي أَوَاخِرِ اللَّيَالِي قَبْلَ زَحْمَةِ النَّاسِ وَاسْتِحْبَابِ الْمُكْثِ لِغَيْرِهِمْ حَتَّى يُصَلُّوا الصُّبْحَ بِمُزْدَلِفَةَ
15.50 Stoning Jamrat Al-'Aqabah from the bottom of the valley; Makkah should be on to one's left and one should say Takbir with each throw
١٥۔٥٠ باب رَمْىِ جَمْرَةِ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِي وَتَكُونُ مَكَّةُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَيُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ
15.55 Shaving the head is preferrable to cutting the hair, although cutting the hair is permissible
١٥۔٥٥ باب تَفْضِيلِ الْحَلْقِ عَلَى التَّقْصِيرِ وَجَوَازِ التَّقْصِيرِ
15.56 The Sunnah on the day of sacrifice is to stone the Jamrah, then offer the sacrifice, then shave the head, and shaving should be started on the right side of the head
١٥۔٥٦ باب بَيَانِ أَنَّ السُّنَّةَ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ أَنْ يَرْمِيَ ثُمَّ يَنْحَرَ ثُمَّ يَحْلِقَ وَالاِبْتِدَاءِ فِي الْحَلْقِ بِالْجَانِبِ الأَيْمَنِ مِنْ رَأْسِ الْمَحْلُوقِ
15.57 It is permissible to offer the sacrifice before stoning the Jamrah, or to shave before offering the sacrifice or stoning the Jamrah, or to perform Tawaf before any of them
١٥۔٥٧ باب مَنْ حَلَقَ قَبْلَ النَّحْرِ أَوْ نَحَرَ قَبْلَ الرَّمْىِ
15.58 It is recommended to perform Tawaf Al-Ifadah on the day of sacrifice
١٥۔٥٨ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ طَوَافِ الإِفَاضَةِ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ
15.59 It is recommended to halt at Al-Muhassab on the day of departing from Mina and to perform Zuhr and subsequent prayers there
١٥۔٥٩ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ النُّزُولِ بِالْمُحَصَّبِ يَوْمَ النَّفْرِ وَالصَّلاَةِ بِهِ
15.60 It is obligatory to stay overnight in Mina during the nights of the days of At-Tashriq, and the concession allowing those who supply water to leave
١٥۔٦٠ باب وُجُوبِ الْمَبِيتِ بِمِنًى لَيَالِيَ أَيَّامِ التَّشْرِيقِ وَالتَّرْخِيصِ فِي تَرْكِهِ لأَهْلِ السِّقَايَةِ
15.61 Giving the meat, skin and blankets of the Hadi in charity; the butcher should not be given any of it; It is permissible to delegate someone else to offer the sacrifice
١٥۔٦١ باب فِي الصَّدَقَةِ بِلُحُومِ الْهَدْىِ وَجُلُودِهَا وَجِلاَلِهَا
15.63 It is recommended to sacrifice the camel when it is standing and tied
١٥۔٦٣ باب نَحْرِ الْبُدْنِ قِيَامًا مُقَيَّدَةً
15.64 It is recommended to send the sacrificial animal to the Haram for one who does not intend to go there himself; It is reommended to garland it and to make the garland, but the one who sends it does not enter a state of Ihram, and nothing is forbidden to him because of that
١٥۔٦٤ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ بَعْثِ الْهَدْىِ إِلَى الْحَرَمِ لِمَنْ لاَ يُرِيدُ الذَّهَابَ بِنَفْسِهِ وَاسْتِحْبَابِ تَقْلِيدِهِ وَفَتْلِ الْقَلاَئِدِ وَأَنَّ بَاعِثَهُ لاَ يَصِيرُ مُحْرِمًا وَلاَ يَحْرُمُ عَلَيْهِ شيء بِذَلِكَ
15.65 It is permissible to ride the sacrificial animal if necessary
١٥۔٦٥ باب جَوَازِ رُكُوبِ الْبَدَنَةِ الْمُهْدَاةِ لِمَنِ احْتَاجَ إِلَيْهَا
15.67 The farewell Tawaf is obligatory, but it is waived in the case of menstruating women
١٥۔٦٧ باب وُجُوبِ طَوَافِ الْوَدَاعِ وَسُقُوطِهِ عَنِ الْحَائِضِ
15.68 It is recommended for pilgrims and others to enter the Ka'bah and pray therein, and supplicate in all its corners
١٥۔٦٨ باب اسْتِحْبَابِ دُخُولِ الْكَعْبَةِ لِلْحَاجِّ وَغَيْرِهِ وَالصَّلاَةِ فِيهَا وَالدُّعَاءِ فِي نَوَاحِيهَا كُلِّهَا
15.69 Demolishing the Ka'bah and rebuilding it
١٥۔٦٩ باب نَقْضِ الْكَعْبَةِ وَبِنَائِهَا
15.70 The wall and the door of the Ka'bah
١٥۔٧٠ باب جَدْرِ الْكَعْبَةِ وَبَابِهَا
15.71 Hajj on behalf of one who is incapable of doing it because of chronic illness, old age and the like, or on behalf of one who has died
١٥۔٧١ باب الْحَجِّ عَنِ الْعَاجِزِ، لِزَمَانَةٍ وَهِرَمٍ وَنَحْوِهِمَا أَوْ لِلْمَوْتِ
15.73 Hajj is obligatory once in a lifetime
١٥۔٧٣ باب فَرْضِ الْحَجِّ مَرَّةً فِي الْعُمْرِ
15.74 A woman travelling with a Mahram for Hajj and other purposes
١٥۔٧٤ باب سَفَرِ الْمَرْأَةِ مَعَ مَحْرَمٍ إِلَى حَجٍّ وَغَيْرِهِ
15.76 What should be said when returning from Hajj and other journeys
١٥۔٧٦ باب مَا يَقُولُ إِذَا قَفَلَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ الْحَجِّ وَغَيْرِهِ
15.77 It is recommended to stop in Batha' of Dhul-Hulaifah and pray there when departing from Hajj and 'Umrah, or any time one passes through it
١٥۔٧٧ باب التَّعْرِيسِ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ وَالصَّلاَةِ بِهَا إِذَا صَدَرَ مِنَ الْحَجِّ أَوِ الْعُمْرَةِ
15.78 No idolator may circumambulate the house, and no one may circumambulate the house naked, and when the greatest day of Hajj is
١٥۔٧٨ باب لاَ يَحُجُّ الْبَيْتَ مُشْرِكٌ وَلاَ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ عُرْيَانٌ وَبَيَانُ يَوْمِ الْحَجِّ الأَكْبَبَرِ
15.79 The virtue of the day of 'Arafat
١٥۔٧٩ باب فِي فَضْلِ الْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ وَيَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ
15.80 Pilgrims staying in Makkah, and Inheriting its houses
١٥۔٨٠ باب النُّزُولِ بِمَكَّةَ لِلْحَاجِّ وَتَوْرِيثِ دُورِهَا
15.81 It is permissible for the one who emigrated from Makkah to stay there for three days after completing Hajj and 'Umrah, and no more than that
١٥۔٨١ باب جَوَازِ الإِقَامَةِ بِمَكَّةَ لِلْمُهَاجِرِ مِنْهَا بَعْدَ فَرَاغِ الْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ بِلاَ زِيَادَةٍ
15.82 The sanctity of Makkah and the sanctity of its game, grasses, trees and lost property, except for the one who announces it, is forever
١٥۔٨٢ باب تَحْرِيمِ مَكَّةَ وَصَيْدِهَا وَخَلاَهَا وَشَجَرِهَا وَلُقَطَتِهَا إِلاَّ لِمُنْشِدٍ عَلَى الدَّوَام
15.84 It is permissible to enter Makkah without Ihram
١٥۔٨٤ باب جَوَازِ دُخُولِ مَكَّةَ بِغَيْرِ إِحْرَامٍ
15.85 The virtue of Al-Madinah and the Prophet's Prayer for it to be blessed. Its sanctity and the sanctity of its game and trees. The Boundaries of its sanctuary
١٥۔٨٥ باب فَضْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَدُعَاءِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِيهَا بِالْبَرَكَةِ وَبَيَانِ تَحْرِيمِها وَتَحْرِيمِ صَيْدِهَا وَشَجَرِهَا وَبَيَانِ حُدُودِ حَرَمِهَا
ʿAli addressed us while he was standing on a brick pulpit and carrying a sword from which was hanging a scroll He said "By Allah, we have no book to read except Allah's Book and whatever is on this scroll," And then he unrolled it, and behold, in it was written what sort of camels were to be given as blood money, and there was also written in it: 'Medina is a sanctuary form 'Air (mountain) to such and such place so whoever innovates in it an heresy or commits a sin therein, he will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people and Allah will not accept his compulsory or optional good deeds.' There was also written in it: 'The asylum (pledge of protection) granted by any Muslims is one and the same, (even a Muslim of the lowest status is to be secured and respected by all the other Muslims, and whoever betrays a Muslim in this respect (by violating the pledge) will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will not accept his compulsory or optional good deeds.' There was also written in it: 'Whoever (freed slave) befriends (takes as masters) other than his real masters (manumitters) without their permission will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will not accept his compulsory or optional good deeds. ' (See Hadith No. 94, Vol. 3)
خَطَبَنَا عَلِيٌّ ؓ عَلَى مِنْبَرٍ مِنْ آجُرٍّ وَعَلَيْهِ سَيْفٌ فِيهِ صَحِيفَةٌ مُعَلَّقَةٌ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا عِنْدَنَا مِنْ كِتَابٍ يُقْرَأُ إِلاَّ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ وَمَا فِي هَذِهِ الصَّحِيفَةِ فَنَشَرَهَا فَإِذَا فِيهَا أَسْنَانُ الإِبِلِ وَإِذَا فِيهَا الْمَدِينَةُ حَرَمٌ مِنْ عَيْرٍ إِلَى كَذَا فَمَنْ أَحْدَثَ فِيهَا حَدَثًا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لاَ يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلاَ عَدْلاً وَإِذَا فِيهِ ذِمَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَاحِدَةٌ يَسْعَى بِهَا أَدْنَاهُمْ فَمَنْ أَخْفَرَ مُسْلِمًا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لاَ يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلاَ عَدْلاً وَإِذَا فِيهَا مَنْ وَالَى قَوْمًا بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ مَوَالِيهِ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لاَ يَقْبَلُ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ صَرْفًا وَلاَ عَدْلاً
15.86 Encouragement to live in Al-Madinah and to be patient on bearing its distress and hardships
١٥۔٨٦ باب التَّرْغِيبِ فِي سُكْنَى الْمَدِينَةِ وَالصَّبْرِ عَلَى لأْوَائِهَا
15.87 Al-Madinah is protected against the plague and the Dajjal entering it
١٥۔٨٧ باب صِيَانَةِ الْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ دُخُولِ الطَّاعُونِ وَالدَّجَّالِ إِلَيْهَا
15.88 Al-Madinah eliminates its Dross and it is also called Tabah, and Taibah
١٥۔٨٨ باب الْمَدِينَةِ تَنْفِي شِرَارَهَا
15.89 The prohibition of wishing ill towards the people of Al-Madinah, and that the one who wishes them ill will be caused to melt by Allah
١٥۔٨٩ باب مَنْ أَرَادَ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ بِسُوءٍ أَذَابَهُ اللَّهُ
15.90 Encouraging people to stay in Al-Madinah when the regions were conquered
١٥۔٩٠ باب التَّرْغِيبِ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ عِنْدَ فَتْحِ الأَمْصَارِ
15.91 The Prophet saws foretold that the people will abandon Al-Madinah when it is the best it ever was
١٥۔٩١ باب فِي الْمَدِينَةِ حِينَ يَتْرُكُهَا أَهْلُهَا
15.92 The virtue of the area between the prophet's grave and his Minbar, and the virtue of the spot where his minbar is
١٥۔٩٢ باب مَا بَيْنَ الْقَبْرِ وَالْمِنْبَرِ رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ
15.93 The virtue of Uhud
١٥۔٩٣ باب أُحُدٌ جَبَلٌ يُحِبُّنَا وَنُحِبُّهُ
15.94 The virtue of praying in the Masajid of Makkah and Al-Madinah
١٥۔٩٤ باب فَضْلِ الصَّلاَةِ بِمَسْجِدَىْ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ
15.95 The virtue of the Three Masajid
١٥۔٩٥ باب لاَ تُشَدُّ الرِّحَالُ إِلاَّ إِلَى ثَلاَثَةِ مَسَاجِدَ
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not set out on a journey except for three Mosques i.e. Al-Masjid-AI-Haram, the Mosque of Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the Mosque of Al-Aqsa, (Mosque of Jerusalem)."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ تُشَدُّ الرِّحَالُ إِلاَّ إِلَى ثَلاَثَةِ مَسَاجِدَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَمَسْجِدِ الرَّسُولِ ﷺ وَمَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى
15.97 The virtue of the Masjid of Quba', and the virtue of praying therein and visiting it
١٥۔٩٧ باب فَضْلِ مَسْجِدِ قُبَاءٍ وَفَضْلِ الصَّلاَةِ فِيهِ وَزِيَارَتِهِ
The Prophet ﷺ used to go to the Mosque of Quba (sometimes) walking and sometimes riding.
Added Nafiʿ (in another narration), "He then would offer two rakʿat (in the Mosque of Quba)."
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَأْتِي قُبَاءً رَاكِبًا وَمَاشِيًا
زَادَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ فَيُصَلِّي فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ
