[Machine] Um Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , informed him that when she arrived in Madinah, she told the people that she was the daughter of Abu Umamah ibn al-Mughirah. However, they accused her of lying and said, "What strange lies!" Then, some people from them started to perform Hajj, and they said to her, "Write to your family." So, she wrote with them, and they returned to Madinah, believing her. Consequently, their respect for her increased. She said, "When I gave birth to Zainab, the Prophet ﷺ came to me proposing marriage. I said, 'Women like me are not married. Moreover, I am jealous and have children.' He ﷺ said, 'I am older than you, and as for the jealousy, Allah will remove it, and as for the children, it is up to Allah and His Messenger.' Therefore, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married her and said, 'I will visit you tonight.' She said, 'I took out some barley grains from my bag and some fat, and I separated them for him.' He spent the night there, and in the morning he said, 'You have brought honor to your family. If you wish, I will maintain you and if you wish, I will maintain your spouse.'"

أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا لَمَّا قَدِمَتِ الْمَدِينَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُمْ أَنَّهَا بِنْتُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةَ فَكَذَّبُوهَا وَجَعَلُوا يَقُولُونَ مَا أَكْذَبَ الْغَرَائِبَ ثُمَّ أَنْشَأَ نَاسٌ مِنْهُمُ الْحَجَّ فَقَالُوا تَكْتُبِينَ إِلَى أَهْلِكِ فَكَتَبْتُ مَعَهُمْ فَرَجَعُوا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَصَدَّقُوهَا فَازْدَادَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ كَرَامَةً فَقَالَتْ لَمَّا وَضَعْتُ زَيْنَبَ جَاءَنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُنِي فَقُلْتُ مَثَلِي لَا يُنْكَحُ أَمَا أَنَّا فَلَا وَلَدَ فِيَّ وَأَنَا غَيُورٌ ذَاتُ عِيَالٍ قَالَ ﷺ «أَنَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْكِ وَأَمَّا الْغَيْرَةُ فَيُذْهِبُهَا اللَّهُ وَأَمَّا الْعِيَالُ فَإِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ» فَتَزَوَّجَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ «إِنِّي آتِيكُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ» قَالَتْ فَأَخْرَجْتُ حَبَّاتٍ مِنْ شَعِيرٍ كَانَتْ فِي جَرَّتِي وَأَخْرَجْتُ شَحْمًا فَعَصَدْتُ لَهُ قَالَ فَبَاتَ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَ فَقَالَ حِينَ أَصْبَحَ «إِنَّ بِكِ عَلَى أَهْلِكِ كَرَامَةً إِنْ شِئْتِ سَبَّعْتُ لَكِ وَإِنَّ أُسَبِّعْ لَكِ أُسَبِّعُ لِنِسَائِي»

She wrote to them and they returned to Medina, believing her. As a result, their honor increased.

Um Salama said, "When I gave birth to Zainab, the Prophet ﷺ came to me and proposed to me. I said, 'No woman like me has ever been married before. I do not have any children, and I am jealous and have my own family.' He said, 'I am older than you, and Allah will remove your jealousy. As for having children, that is up to Allah and His Messenger.' So he married me."

Then the Prophet ﷺ used to come to her and say, "Where is Zunab?" Until one day, Ammar ibn Yasir came and bothered her. He said, "She is preventing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." She was breastfeeding her, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and asked, "Where is Zunab?" She said, "She is with the close relative of Abu Umama." Ammar ibn Yasir took her with him, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "I will come to you tonight." Um Salama said, "I got up and brought some grains of barley that were in a sack, and I brought some fat and smeared it on them. I provided it for him." Um Salama added, "The Prophet ﷺ slept until morning and when he woke up, he said, 'You have a special position among your family. If you wish, I can divorce you or I can keep you as my wives.'"

Their respect for her increased. She said, "When Zainab gave birth, the Prophet ﷺ came to me and proposed to me. I said, 'No one like me should be married, as I have children and I am possessive.' He said, 'I am older than you, and as for possessiveness, Allah will take it away, and as for children, they belong to Allah and His Messenger.' So he married her and would come to her and say, 'Where is Zunab?' Until one day, Ammar bin Yasir came and bothered her, saying, 'She is preventing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from coming to her.' She was breastfeeding her, then the Prophet ﷺ came and said, 'Where is Zunab?' She said, 'Umaya's cousin has taken her.' Ammar bin Yasir took her and the Prophet ﷺ said to them, 'I will come to you tonight.' She said, 'So I got up and put my children to sleep, and I delayed some barley grains that were in a container and brought out some fat and placed it in front of him.' She said, 'The Prophet ﷺ spent the night with me, and in the morning, he said, 'Indeed, you have a virtue over your family. If you wish, I can keep you, and if you wish, I can divorce you for my wives.'"

I said, 'No one like me should be married except to one with children, and I am a jealous woman with a family.' He said, 'I am older than you, and as for jealousy, Allah will remove it, and as for the family, it is with Allah and His Messenger.' So he married her to him. He used to come to her and say, 'How are you, Zunab? Where are the Zunabs?' Then Ammar bin Yasir came and disturbed her, so the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Where are the Zunabs?' She said, 'I am the daughter of Abu Umamah, and she is with me.' Ammar bin Yasir took her. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'I will come to you tonight.' She said, 'I cleaned myself and took grains of barley from a sack, and it was in a container, or according to another narration, a gourd, and I took some fat and applied it. Then I spent the night and in the morning, he said, 'You have honor among your people. If you wish, I will keep you.' And if you dislike, I will divorce you, but continue to be one of my wives."

"عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّهَا لما قَدِمَت الْمَدِينَة أَخْبَرتْهم أَنَّها ابْنَةُ أَبِي أُمَيةَ بن الْمغيرَة فَكَذِّبُوهَا حَتَّى أَنْشَأَ نَاسٌ مِنْهُم الْحَجِّ، فَقَالُوا: تَكْتُبِينَ إِلَى أَهْلِك فكتبتُ مَعهُم فَرَجَعُوا إِلَى الْمدينة يصدقونها، فَازْدَادَتْ عَلَيهم كَرَامَة، قَالَتْ: فَلَمَّا وَضَعت زَيْنَب جَاءَنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَخَطَبَني، فَقُلْتُ: مِثْلي تُنْكَحُ؟ ! ! ، أَمَّا أَنَا فَلَا وَلَد فِيَّ وَأَنَا غَيُورٌ [غَيْرَى] ذَاتُ عِيَال؟ قَالَ: أَنَا أَكْبر مِنْكِ، وَأَمَّا الْغَيْرَةُ فُيذْهبُها الله - تَعَالَى- وَأَمَّا العِيَال فَإلَى الله وَإلَى رسُولِهِ، فَتَزَوَّجَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يَأتِيهَا فَيَقُولُ: أَيْنَ زنَاب حَتَّى جَاءَ عَمَّارٌ فَاخْتَلَجَهَا فَقَالَ: هَذِهِ تَمْنَع رسُول اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَت تُرْضعها، فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَيْن زنَاب فَقَالَ: [قريبة] بِنْت أَبِي أُمَيَّة، وَافَقَتْهَا عِنْدَهَا أَخَذَها ابنُ يَاسِرٍ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنِّي آتِيكُم اللَّيلَة، فَوَضَعتُ ثِفَالي (*)، فَأَخْرَجْتُ حَبَّاتٍ مِن شَعِير كَانَتْ في [جَرتي]، وَأَخْرَجَت شَحْمًا [فعصدتُ] لَهُ فَبَاتَ، ثُم أَصْبَحَ فَقَالَ حِينَ أَصْبَح إنَّ لَك عَلَى أَهلِكِ كَرَامَةً، إِنْ شِئْتِ سَبَّعتُ لَكِ، وَإن أُسَبِّعْ لَكِ أُسَبِّع لِنِسَائِي".
