٧۔ كِتَابُ الرَّقَائِقِ ص ٦

ذِكْرُ سِبَاقِ الذَّاكِرِينَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَالذَّاكِرَاتِ فِي الْقِيَامَةِ أَهْلَ الطَّاعَاتِ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ

ibnhibban:858al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān > Umayyah b. Bisṭām > Yazīd b. Zurayʿ > Rawḥ b. al-Qāsim > al-ʿAlāʾ from his father > Abū Hurayrah

Proceed on, it is Jumdan, Mufarradun have gone ahead. They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) said: Messenger of Allah, who are Mufarradun? He said: They are those males and females who remember Allah much. (Using translation from Muslim 2676)  

ابن حبّان:٨٥٨أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ بِسْطَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَسِيرُ فِي طَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ فَمَرَّ عَلَى جَبَلٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ جُمْدَانَ فَقَالَ «سِيرُوا هَذَا جُمْدَانُ سَبَقَ الْمُفَرِّدُونَ سَبَقَ الْمُفَرِّدُونَ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الْمُفَرِّدُونَ؟ قَالَ «الذَّاكِرُونَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَالذَّاكِرَاتُ»  

ذِكْرُ مَغْفِرَةِ اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا مَا قُدِّمَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِ الْعَبْدِ بِقَوْلِهِ: سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ، بِعَدَدٍ مَعْلُومٍ عِنْدَ الصَّبَّاحِ وَالْمَسَاءِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever says, 'Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi' (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him) one hundred times in the morning and evening, his sins will be forgiven, even if they are more than the foam of the sea."  

ابن حبّان:٨٥٩أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ وَإِذَا أَمْسَى مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ غُفِرَتْ ذُنُوبُهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ»  

ذِكْرُ الشَّيْءِ الَّذِي إِذَا قَالَهُ الْإِنْسَانُ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ لَمْ يُوَافِ فِي الْقِيَامَةِ أَحَدٌ بِمِثْلِ مَا وَافَى

if anyone says a hundred times in the morning: “Glory be to Allah, the Sublime, and I begin with praise of him”, and says likewise in the evening, no one from the creatures will bring anything like the one which he will bring. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5091)  

ابن حبّان:٨٦٠أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ الضَّرِيرُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ وَإِذَا أَمْسَى كَذَلِكَ لَمْ يُوَافِ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْخَلَائِقِ بِمِثْلِ مَا وَافَى»  

ذِكْرُ الشَّيْءِ الَّذِي إِذَا، قَالَهُ الْمَرْءُ عِنْدَ الصَّبَاحِ كَانَ مُؤَدِّيًا لِشُكْرِ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ

The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone says in the morning: "O Allah! whatever favour has come to me, it comes from Thee alone Who has no partner; to Thee praise is due and thanksgiving,'! he will have expressed full thanksgiving for the day; and if anyone says the same in the evening, he will have expressed full thanksgiving for the night. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5073)   

ابن حبّان:٨٦١أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهُوَ رَبِيعَةُ الرَّأْيِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَنْبَسَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ اللَّهُمَّ مَا أَصْبَحَ بِي مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ أَوْ بِأَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ فَمِنْكَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَلَكَ الشُّكْرُ فَقَدْ أَدَّى شُكْرَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ»  

ذِكْرُ الشَّيْءِ الَّذِي يَحْتَرِزُ الْمَرْءُ بِهِ مِنْ فَاجِئَةِ الْبَلَاءِ حَتَّى يُمْسِيَ إِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ الصَّبَّاحِ، وَحَتَّى يُصْبِحَ إِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ الْمَسَاءِ

ibnhibban:862Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm a freed slave of Thaqīf > al-Ḥusayn b. ʿĪsá / al-Bisṭāmī > Anas b. ʿIyāḍ > Abū Mawdūd > Muḥammad b. Kaʿb al-Quraẓī > Abān b. ʿUthmān > ʿUthmān

ʿWhoever says, ʿIn the Name of Allah with Whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm, and he is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.ʿ three times, will not be struck unawares by calamity until night comes, and whoever says it in the evening will not be struck unawares by calamity until morning comes, in shaʿ Allah.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 528)   

ابن حبّان:٨٦٢أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عِيسَى يَعْنِي الْبِسْطَامِيَّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَوْدُودٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ لَمْ تَفْجَأْهُ فَاجِئَةُ بَلَاءٍ حَتَّى يُمْسِيَ وَمَنْ قَالَهَا حِينَ يُمْسِي لَمْ تَفْجَأْهُ فَاجِئَةُ بَلَاءٍ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ»  

ذِكْرُ إِيجَابِ الْجَنَّةِ لِمَنْ قَالَ: رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا، وَقَرَنَهُ بِرِضَاهُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ وَالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ

[Machine] The translation in English for the given text is: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever says 'I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad ﷺ as my Prophet, Paradise will be obligatory for him."  

ابن حبّان:٨٦٣أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ يَقُولُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ « مَنْ قَالَ رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ نَبِيًّا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ»  

ذِكْرُ الشَّيْءِ الَّذِي إِذَا قَالَهُ الْمَرْءُ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ يُرْتَجَى لَهُ زَوَالُهَا عَنْهُ

ibnhibban:864Abū Yaʿlá > Ibrāhīm b. Muḥammad b. ʿArʿarah b. al-Birind > ʿAttāb b. Ḥarb Abū Bishr > Abū ʿĀmir al-Khazzāz > Ibn Abū Mulaykah > ʿĀʾishah

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ gathered his household and said, "If any one of you experiences sadness or distress, let them say 'Allah, Allah, my Lord, I do not associate anything with Him.'"  

ابن حبّان:٨٦٤أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَرْعَرَةَ بْنِ الْبِرِنْدِ حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ أَبُو بِشْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْخَزَّازُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ جَمَعَ أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ فَقَالَ «إِذَا أَصَابَ أَحَدَكُمْ غَمٌّ أَوْ كَرْبٌ فَلْيَقُلِ اللَّهُ اللَّهُ رَبِّي لَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا»  

ذِكْرُ الْأَمْرِ بِالتَّهْلِيلِ وَالتَّسْبِيحِ لِلَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا مَعَ التَّحْمِيدِ لِمَنْ أَصَابَتْهُ شِدَّةٌ أَوْ كَرْبٌ

ibnhibban:865Ismāʿīl b. Dāwud b. And Rdān Bi-al-Fusṭāṭ > ʿĪsá b. Ḥammād > al-Layth > Ibn ʿAjlān > Muḥammad b. Kaʿb al-Quraẓī > ʿAbdullāh b. Shaddād > ʿAbdullāh b. Jaʿfar > ʿAlī b. Abū Ṭālib

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me some words and told me to say them if some distress or hardship befell me: ʿThere is no god but Allah, the Most Generous, the Forbearing, glory be to Him, Blessed be Allah, Lord of the mighty Throne and praise be to Allah the lord of the Worlds. (Using translation from Aḥmad 726)  

ابن حبّان:٨٦٥أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ وَرْدَانَ بِالْفُسْطَاطِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَقَّنَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ وَأَمَرَنِي إِنْ أَصَابَنِي كَرْبٌ أَوْ شِدَّةٌ أَقُولُهُنَّ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ»  

ibnhibban:866Aḥmad b. ʿAlī b. al-Muthanná Bikhabar Gharīb

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Each one of you should ask his Lord for all his needs, even to the extent of the width of his sandal strap when it breaks."  

ابن حبّان:٨٦٦أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى بِخَبَرٍ غَرِيبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قَطَنُ بْنُ نُسَيْرٍ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَسْأَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ رَبَّهُ حَاجَتَهُ كُلَّهَا حَتَّى شِسْعَ نَعْلِهِ إِذَا انْقَطَعَ»

[Machine] "The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to admire comprehensive supplications."  

ابن حبّان:٨٦٧أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ عَنْ أَبِي نَوْفَلِ بْنِ أَبِي عَقْرَبَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُعْجِبُهُ الْجَوَامِعُ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ  

ذِكْرُ مَا يَجِبُ أَنْ يَكُونَ قَصْدُ الْمَرْءِ فِي جَوَامِعِ دُعَائِهِ وَبَيَانِ أَحْوَالِهِ لَهُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man, "What do you say in prayer?" The man replied, "I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah and I seek refuge in You from the Fire, O Allah, I ask You for Paradise."  

ابن حبّان:٨٦٨أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو زُنَيْجٌ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِرَجُلٍ «مَا تَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ؟ » فَقَالَ أَتَشَهَّدُ ثُمَّ أَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ  

ذِكْرُ الْأَمْرِ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ رَبَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلَا جَوَامِعَ الْخَيْرِ وَيَتَعَوَّذَ بِهِ مِنْ جَوَامِعِ الشَّرِّ

ibnhibban:869Abū Khalīfah Mā Lā Uḥṣī from Marrah > Mūsá b. Ismāʿīl > Ḥmād b. Salamah > al-Jurayrī > Um Kulthūm b. Abū Bakr > ʿĀʾishah

the Messenger of Allah (saas) taught her this supplication: "Allahumma inni as'aluka minal-khayri kullihi, 'ajilihi wa ajilihi, ma 'alimtu minhu wa ma la a'lam. Wa a'udhu bika minash-sharri kullihi, 'ajilihi wa ajilihi, ma 'alimtu minhu wa ma la a'lam. Allahumma inni as'aluka min khayri ma sa'alaka 'abduka wa nabiyyuka, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'adha bihi 'abduka wa nabiyyuka. Allahumma inni as'alukal-jannatah wa ma qarrab ilayha min qawlin aw 'amalin, wa a'udhu bika minan-nari wa ma qarraba ilayha min qawlin aw 'amalin, wa as'aluka an taj'al kulla qada'in qadaytahuli khayran (O Allah, I ask You for all that is good, in this world and in the Hereafter, what I know and what I do not know. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from all evil, in this world and in the Hereafter, what I know and what I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for the good that Your slave and Prophet has asked You for, and I seek refuge with You from the evil from which Your slave and Prophet sought refuge. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed, and I seek refuge in You from Hell and from that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed. And I ask You to make every decree that You decree concerning me good)." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3846)  

ابن حبّان:٨٦٩أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ مَا لَا أُحْصِي مِنْ مَرَّةٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حمادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَّمَهَا أَنْ تَقُولَ «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ كُلِّهِ عَاجِلَهُ وَآجِلَهُ مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمُ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ كُلِّهِ عَاجِلَهُ وَآجِلَهُ مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ مَا سَأَلَكَ عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ مَا عَاذَ بِهِ عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ وَعَمَلٍ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ وَعَمَلٍ وَأَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ كُلَّ قَضَاءٍ قَضَيْتَهُ لِي خَيْرًا»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ دُعَاءَ الْمَرْءِ لِلَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا مِنْ أَكْرَمِ الْأَشْيَاءِ عَلَيْهِ

ibnhibban:870Abū Khalīfah > ʿAmr b. Marzūq > ʿImrān al-Qaṭṭān > Qatādah > Saʿīd b. Abū al-Ḥasan Akhī al-Ḥasan > Abū Hurayrah

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is nothing more honorable to Allah than supplication."  

ابن حبّان:٨٧٠أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ الْقَطَّانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ أَخِي الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ شَيْءٌ أَكْرَمَ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ»  

ذِكْرُ رَجَاءِ النَّجَاةِ مِنَ الْآفَاتِ لِمَنْ دَامَ عَلَى الدُّعَاءِ فِي أَوْقَاتِهِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not despair in supplication, for no one will be destroyed along with supplication."  

ابن حبّان:٨٧١أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زُهَيْرٍ الْجُرْجَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هَوْذَةُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ هُوَ ابْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تَعْجِزُوا فِي الدُّعَاءِ فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يَهْلِكَ مَعَ الدُّعَاءِ أَحَدٌ»  

ذِكْرُ الْإِخْبَارِ عَمَّا يُسْتَحَبُّ لِلْمَرْءِ مِنَ الْمُوَاظَبَةِ عَلَى الدُّعَاءِ وَالْبِرِّ

“Nothing increases one’s life span except righteousness and nothing repels the Divine decree except supplication, and a man may be deprived of provision by a sin that he commits.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4022)  

ابن حبّان:٨٧٢أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيُحْرَمُ الرِّزْقَ بِالذَّنْبِ يُصِيبُهُ وَلَا يُرَدُّ الْقَدْرُ إِلَّا بِالدُّعَاءِ وَلَا يَزِيدُ فِي الْعُمُرِ إِلَّا الْبِرُّ»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمَرْءَ إِذَا دَعَا اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلَا بِنِيَّةٍ صَحِيحَةٍ وَعَمَلٍ مُخْلِصٍ قَدْ يُسْتَجَابُ لَهُ دُعَاؤُهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ الشَّيْءُ الْمَسْؤُولُ مُعْجِزَةً

There lived a king before you and he had a (court) magician. As he (the magician) grew old, he said to the king: I have grown old, send some young boy to me so that I should teach him magic. He (the king) sent to him a young man so that he should train him (in magic). And on his way (to the magician) he (the young man) found a monk sitting there. He (the young man) listened to his (the monk's) talk and was impressed by it. It became his habit that on his way to the magician he met the monk and set there and he came to the magician (late). He (the magician) beat him because of delay. He made a complaint of that to the monk and he said to him: When you feel afraid of the magician, say: Members of my family had detained me. And when you feel afraid of your family you should say: The magician had detained me. It so happened that there came a huge beast (of prey) and it blocked the way of the people, and he (the young boy) said: I will come to know today whether the magician is superior or the monk is superior. He picked up a stone and said: O Allah, if the affair of the monk is dearer to Thee than the affair of the magician, cause death to this animal so that the people should be able to move about freely. He threw that stone towards it and killed it and the people began to move about (on the path freely). He (the young man) then came to that monk and Informed him and the monk said: Sonny, today you are superior to me. Your affair has come to a stage where I find that you would be soon put to a trial, and in case you are put to a trial don't give my clue. That young man began to treat the blind and those suffering from leprosy and he in fact began to cure people from (all kinds) of illness. When a companion of the king who had gone blind heard about him, he came to him with numerous gifts and said: If you cure me all these things collected together here would be yours. Be said: I myself do not cure anyone. It is Allah Who cures and if you affirm faith in Allah, I shall also supplicate Allah to cure you. He affirmed his faith in Allah and Allah cured him and he came to the king and sat by his side as he used to sit before. The king said to him: Who restored your eyesight? He said: My Lord. Thereupon he said: It means that your Lord is One besides me. He said: My Lord and your Lord is Allah, so he (the king) took hold of him and tormented him till he gave a clue of that boy. The young man was thus summoned and the king said to him: O boy, it has been conveyed to me that you have become so much proficient in your magic that you cure the blind and those suffering from leprosy and you do such and such things. Thereupon he said: I do not cure anyone; it is Allah Who cures, and he (the king) took hold of him and began to torment him. So he gave a clue of the monk. The monk was thus summoned and it was said to him: You should turn back from your religion. He, however, refused to do so. He (ordered) for a saw to be brought (and when it was done) he (the king) placed it in the middle of his head and tore it into parts till a part fell down. Then the courtier of the king was brought and it was said to him: Turn back from your religion. Arid he refused to do so, and the saw was placed in the midst of his head and it was torn till a part fell down. Then that young boy was brought and it was said to him: Turn back from your religion. He refused to do so and he was handed over to a group of his courtiers. And he 'said to them: Take him to such and such mountain; make him climb up that mountain and when you reach its top (ask him to renounce his faith) but if he refuses to do so, then throw him (down the mountain). So they took him and made him climb up the mountain and he said: O Allah, save me from them (in any way) Thou likest and the mountain began to quake and they all fell down and that person came walking to the king. The king said to him: What has happened to your companions? He said: Allah has saved me from them. He again handed him to some of his courtiers and said: Take him and carry him in a small boat and when you reach the middle of the ocean (ask him to renounce) his religion, but if he does not renounce his religion throw him (into the water). So they took him and he said: O Allah, save me from them and what they want to do. It was quite soon that the boat turned over and they were drowned and he came walking to the king, and the king said to him: What has happened to your companions? He said: Allah has saved me from them, and he said to the king: You cannot kill me until you do what I ask you to do. And he said: What is that? He said: You should gather people in a plain and hang me by the trunk (of a tree). Then take hold of an arrow from the quiver and say: In the name of Allah, the Lord of the young boy; then shoot an arrow and if you do that then you would be able to kill me. So he (the king) called the people in an open plain and tied him (the boy) to the trunk of a tree, then he took hold of an arrow from his quiver and then placed the arrow in the bow and then said: In the name of Allah, the Lord of the young boy; he then shot an arrow and it bit his temple. He (the boy) placed his hands upon the temple where the arrow had bit him and he died and the people said: We affirm our faith in the Lord of this young man, we affirm our faith in the Lord of this young man, we affirm our faith in the Lord of this young man. The courtiers came to the king and it was said to him: Do you see that Allah has actually done what you aimed at averting. They (the people) have affirmed their faith in the Lord. He (the king) commanded ditches to be dug at important points in the path. When these ditches were dug, and the fire was lit in them it was said (to the people): He who would not turn back from his (boy's) religion would be thrown in the fire or it would be said to them to jump in that. (The people courted death but did not renounce religion) till a woman came with her child and she felt hesitant in jumping into the fire and the child said to her: 0 mother, endure (this ordeal) for it is the Truth. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «كَانَ مَلِكٌ فِيمَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ لَهُ سَاحِرٌ فَلَمَّا كَبِرَ قَالَ لِلْمَلِكِ إِنِّي قَدْ كَبِرْتُ فَابْعَثْ إِلَيَّ غُلَامًا أُعَلِّمُهُ السِّحْرَ فَبَعَثَ لَهُ غُلَامًا يُعَلِّمُهُ فَكَانَ فِي طَرِيقِهِ إِذَا سَلَكَ رَاهِبٌ فَقَعَدَ إِلَيْهِ وَسَمِعَ كَلَامَهُ وَأَعْجَبَهُ فَكَانَ إِذَا أَتَى السَّاحِرَ ضَرَبَهُ وَإِذَا رَجَعَ مِنْ عِنْدِ السَّاحِرِ قَعَدَ إِلَى الرَّاهِبِ وَسَمِعَ كَلَامَهُ فَإِذَا أَتَى أَهْلَهُ ضَرَبُوهُ فَشَكَا ذَلِكَ إِلَى الرَّاهِبِ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِذَا خَشِيتَ السَّاحِرَ فَقُلْ حَبَسَنِي أَهْلِي وَإِذَا خَشِيتَ أَهْلَكَ فَقُلْ حَبَسَنِي السَّاحِرُ فَبَيْنَمَا هُوَ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ أَتَى عَلَى دَابَّةٍ عَظِيمَةٍ قَدْ حَبَسْتِ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ الْيَوْمَ أَعْلَمُ الرَّاهِبُ أَفْضَلُ أَمِ السَّاحِرُ؟ فَأَخَذَ حَجَرًا ثُمَّ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ أَمْرُ الرَّاهِبِ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ أَمْرِ السَّاحِرِ فَاقْتُلْ هَذِهِ الدَّابَّةَ حَتَّى يَمْضِيَ النَّاسُ فَرَمَاهَا فَقَتَلَهَا وَمَضَى النَّاسُ فَأَتَى الرَّاهِبَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّاهِبُ أَيْ بُنَيَّ أَنْتَ الْيَوْمَ أَفْضَلُ مِنِّي وَإِنَّكَ سَتُبْتَلَى فَإِنِ ابْتُلِيتَ فَلَا تَدُلَّ عَلَيَّ فَكَانَ الْغُلَامُ يُبْرِئُ الْأَكْمَهَ وَالْأَبْرَصَ وَيُدَاوِي سَائِرَ الْأَدْوَاءِ فَسَمِعَ جَلِيسٌ لِلْمَلِكِ كَانَ قَدْ عَمِيَ فَأَتَى الْغُلَامَ بِهَدَايَا كَثِيرَةٍ فَقَالَ مَا هَاهُنَا لَكَ أَجْمَعُ إِنْ أَنْتَ شَفَيْتَنِي قَالَ إِنِّي لَا أَشْفِي أَحَدًا إِنَّمَا يَشْفِي اللَّهُ إِنْ آمَنْتَ بِاللَّهِ دَعَوْتُ اللَّهَ فَشَفَاكَ فَآمَنَ بِاللَّهِ فَشَفَاهُ اللَّهُ فَأَتَى الْمَلِكَ يَمْشِي يَجْلِسُ إِلَيْهِ كَمَا كَانَ يَجْلِسُ فَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ فُلَانُ ‍‍ مَنْ رَدَّ عَلَيْكَ بَصَرَكَ؟ قَالَ رَبِّي قَالَ وَلَكَ رَبٌّ غَيْرِي؟ قَالَ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ وَاحِدٌ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُعَذِّبْهُ حَتَّى دَلَّ عَلَى الْغُلَامِ فَجِيءَ بِالْغُلَامِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْمَلِكُ أَيْ بُنَيَّ قَدْ بَلَغَ مِنْ سِحْرِكَ مَا تُبْرِئُ الْأَكْمَهَ وَالْأَبْرَصَ وَتَفْعَلُ وَتَفْعَلُ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي لَا أَشْفِي أَحَدًا إِنَّمَا يَشْفِي اللَّهُ فَأَخَذَهُ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُعَذِّبْهُ حَتَّى دَلَّ عَلَى الرَّاهِبِ فَجِيءَ بِالرَّاهِبِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ ارْجِعْ عَنْ دِينِكَ فَأَبِي فَدَعَا بِالْمِنْشَارِ فَوَضَعَ الْمِنْشَارَ فِي مَفْرِقِ رَأْسِهِ فَشُقَّ بِهِ حَتَّى وَقَعَ شِقَّاهُ ثُمَّ جِيءَ بِجَلِيسِ الْمَلِكِ فَقِيلَ ارْجِعْ عَنْ دِينِكَ فَأَبِي فَوَضَعَ الْمِنْشَارَ فِي مَفْرِقِ رَأْسِهِ فَشَقَّهُ بِهِ حَتَّى وَقَعَ شِقَّاهُ ثُمَّ جِيءَ بِالْغُلَامِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ ارْجِعْ عَنْ دِينِكَ فَأَبِي فَدَفَعَهُ إِلَى نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ اذْهَبُوا بِهِ إِلَى جَبَلِ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَاصْعَدُوا بِهِ الْجَبَلَ فَإِذَا بَلَغْتُمْ ذُرْوَتَهُ فَإِنْ رَجَعَ عَنْ دِينِهِ وَإِلَّا فَاطْرَحُوهُ فَذَهَبُوا بِهِ فَصَعِدُوا بِهِ الْجَبَلَ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِيهِمْ بِمَا شِئْتَ فَرَجَفَ بِهِمُ الْجَبَلُ فَسَقَطُوا وَجَاءَ يَمْشِي إِلَى الْمَلِكِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْمَلِكُ مَا فَعَلَ أَصْحَابُكَ؟ قَالَ كَفَانِيهِمُ اللَّهُ فَدَفَعَهُ إِلَى قَوْمٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ اذْهَبُوا بِهِ فَاحْمِلُوهُ فِي قُرْقُورٍ فَوَسِّطُوا بِهِ الْبَحْرَ فَلَجِّجُوا بِهِ فَإِنْ رَجَعَ عَنْ دِينِهِ وَإِلَّا فَاقْذِفُوهُ فَذَهَبُوا بِهِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِيهِمْ بِمَا شِئْتَ فَانْكَفَأَتْ بِهِمُ السَّفِينَةُ وَجَاءَ يَمْشِي إِلَى الْمَلِكِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْمَلِكُ مَا فَعَلَ أَصْحَابُكَ؟ قَالَ كَفَانِيهِمُ اللَّهُ فَقَالَ لِلْمَلِكِ وَإِنَّكَ لَسْتَ بِقَاتِلِي حَتَّى تَفْعَلَ مَا آمُرُكَ بِهِ قَالَ وَمَا هُوَ؟ قَالَ تَجْمَعُ النَّاسَ فِي صَعِيدٍ وَاحِدٍ وَتَصْلُبُنِي عَلَى جِذْعٍ ثُمَّ خُذْ سَهْمًا مِنْ كِنَانَتِكَ ثُمَّ ضَعِ السَّهْمَ فِي كَبِدِ الْقَوْسِ ثُمَّ قُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْغُلَامِ ثُمَّ ارْمِنِي فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ قَتَلْتَنِي فَجَمَعَ النَّاسَ فِي صَعِيدٍ وَاحِدٍ ثُمَّ صَلَبَهُ عَلَى جِذْعٍ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ سَهْمًا مِنْ كِنَانَتِهِ ثُمَّ وَضَعَ السَّهْمَ فِي كَبِدِ قَوْسِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْغُلَامِ ثُمَّ رَمَاهُ فَوَقَعَ السَّهْمُ فِي صُدْغِهِ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ فِي مَوْضِعِ السَّهْمِ فَمَاتَ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْغُلَامِ آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْغُلَامِ ثَلَاثًا فَأُتِيَ الْمَلِكُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَرَأَيْتَ مَا كُنْتَ تَحْذَرُ قَدْ وَاللَّهِ نَزَلَ بِكَ حَذَرُكَ قَدْ آمَنَ النَّاسُ فَأَمَرَ بِالْأُخْدُودِ بِأَفْوَاهِ السِّكَكِ فَخُدَّتْ وَأَضْرَمَ النِّيرَانَ وَقَالَ مَنْ لَمْ يَرْجِعْ عَنْ دِينِهِ فَأَحْمُوهُ فَفَعَلُوا حَتَّى جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ وَمَعَهَا صَبِيٌّ لَهَا فَتَقَاعَسَتْ أَنْ تَقَعَ فِيهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا الْغُلَامُ يَا أُمَّهِ اصْبِرِي فَإِنَّكِ عَلَى الْحَقِّ»  

ذِكْرُ الْإِخْبَارِ عَمَّا يُسْتَحَبُّ لِلْمَرْءِ عِنْدَ إِرَادَةِ الدُّعَاءِ رَفْعُ الْيَدَيْنِ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ حَيِيٌّ كَرِيمٌ يَسْتَحْيِي مِنْ عَبْدِهِ إِذَا رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ يَرُدَّهُمَا صِفْرًا»  

ذِكْرُ الْإِبَاحَةِ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَرْفَعَ يَدَيْهِ عِنْدَ الدُّعَاءِ لِلَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا

[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic sentence is: "The Prophet ﷺ used to raise his hands in supplication until the whiteness of his armpits was visible."  

ابن حبّان:٨٧٧أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْقَطَّانُ بِالرَّقَّةِ حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْأَنْطَاكِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

«كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ فِي الدُّعَاءِ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ إِبْطَيْهِ»

أَنَّهُ «رَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ أَحْجَارِ الزَّيْتِ قَرِيبًا مِنَ الزَّوْرَاءِ يَدْعُو رَافِعًا كَفَّيْهِ قِبَلَ وَجْهِهِ لَا يُجَاوِزُ بِهِمَا رَأْسَهُ»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ بَاطِنَ الْكَفَّيْنِ يَجِبُ أَنْ يَكُونَ لِلدَّاعِي قِبَلَ وَجْهِهِ إِذَا دَعَا

Umayr saw the Prophet ﷺ praying for rain at Ahjar az-Zayt near az-Zawra', standing, making supplication, praying for rain and raising his hands in front of his face, but not lifting them above his head. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1168)   

ابن حبّان:٨٧٩أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَيْوَةُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي اللَّحْمِ

أَنَّهُ «رَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَسْتَسْقِي عِنْدَ أَحْجَارِ الزَّيْتِ قَرِيبًا مِنَ الزَّوْرَاءِ قَائِمًا يَدْعُو يَسْتَسْقِي رَافِعًا كَفَّيْهِ لَا يُجَاوِزُ بِهِمَا رَأْسَهُ مُقْبِلًا بِبَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ إِلَى وَجْهِهِ»  

ذِكْرُ اسْتِجَابَةِ الدُّعَاءِ لِلرَّافِعِ يَدَيْهِ إِلَى بَارِئِهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah, the Exalted and High, feels shy from the servant to raise his hands to Him and return them empty."  

ابن حبّان:٨٨٠أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ زُهَيْرٍ بِتُسْتَرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَمِيلُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْعَتَكِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الزِّبْرِقَانِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلَا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْعَبْدِ أَنْ يَرْفَعَ إِلَيْهِ يَدَيْهِ فَيَرُدَّهُمَا خَائِبَتَيْنِ»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلَا إِنَّمَا يَسْتَجِيبُ دُعَاءَ مَنْ رَفَعَ إِلَيْهِ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا لَمْ يَدْعُ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ أَوْ يَسْتَعْجِلِ الْإِجَابَةَ، فَيَتْرُكُ الدُّعَاءَ

The supplication of the servant is granted in case he does not supplicate for sin or for severing the ties of blood, or he does not become impatient. It was said: Messenger of Allah, what does:" If he does not grow impatient" imply? He said: That he should say like this: I supplicated and I supplicated but I did not find it being responded. and theu he becomes frustrated and abandons supplication. عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا يَزَالُ يُسْتَجَابُ لِلْعَبْدِ مَا لَمْ يَدْعُ بِإِثْمٍ أَوْ قَطِيعَةِ رَحِمٍ مَا لَمْ يَسْتَعْجِلْ» قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ يَسْتَعْجِلُ؟ قَالَ «* قَدْ دَعَوْتُ فَلَمْ يُسْتَجَبْ لِي فَيَنْحَسِرُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ فَيَتْرُكُ الدُّعَاءَ»  

ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ الْإِشَارَةِ لِلْمَرْءِ بِإِصْبَعِهِ عِنْدَ إِرَادَتِهِ الدُّعَاءَ لِلَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا

Allah, disfigure these hands! I have seen Messenger of Allah ﷺ gesture no more than this with his hands, and he pointed with his forefinger. (Using translation from Muslim 873c)

«قَبَّحَ اللَّهُ هَاتَيْنِ الْيَدَيْنِ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا يَزِيدُ عَلَى أَنْ يَقُولَ بِيَدِهِ كَذَا وَأَشَارَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ للسّبْحَهِ*»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمَرْءَ إِذَا أَرَادَ الْإِشَارَةَ فِي الدُّعَاءِ يَجِبُ أَنْ يُشِيرَ بِالسَّبَّابَةِ الْيُمْنَى بَعْدَ أَنْ يَحْنِيَهَا قَلِيلًا

[Machine] "I have never seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gesturing with his hands and supplicating on a pulpit or other than it, but I have seen him saying this," and Abu Sa'eed said, while curved his index finger of his right hand.

«مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ شَاهِرًا يَدَيْهِ يَدْعُو عَلَى مِنْبَرٍ وَلَا غَيْرِهِ وَلَكِنْ رَأَيْتُهُ يَقُولُ هَكَذَا» وَقَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ بِأُصْبُعِهِ السَّبَّابَةِ مِنْ يَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى يُقَوِّسُهَا  

ذِكْرُ الزَّجْرِ عَنِ الْإِشَارَةِ فِي الدُّعَاءِ بِالْأُصْبُعَيْنِ

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ saw a man making supplication with all of his fingers, so he prohibited him and said, 'Use only one of them, with the right hand.'"

«أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَبْصَرَ رَجُلًا يَدْعُو بِأُصْبُعَيْهِ جَمِيعًا فَنَهَاهُ وَقَالَ بِإِحْدَاهُمَا بِالْيُمْنَى  

ذِكْرُ الْأَمْرِ بِالِاسْتِخَارَةِ إِذَا أَرَادَ الْمَرْءُ أَمْرًا قَبْلَ الدُّخُولِ عَلَيْهِ

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "If any one of you wants to do something, let him say: 'O Allah, I seek Your guidance by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek ability by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. You are capable and I am not. You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter [mention it] is good for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs, then ordain it for me and make it easy for me, and bless me in it. And if You know that this matter is not good for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and ordain for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me content with it.'"  

ابن حبّان:٨٨٥أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عِيسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَمْرًا فَلْيَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلَا أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا لِلْأَمْرِ الَّذِي يُرِيدُ خَيْرًا لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعِيشَتِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فَاقْدُرْهُ لِي وَيَسِّرْهُ لِي وَأَعِنِّي عَلَيْهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا لِلْأَمْرِ الَّذِي يُرِيدُ شَرًّا لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعِيشَتِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي ثُمَّ اقْدُرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ أَيْنَمَا كَانَ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ»  

ذِكْرُ خَبَرٍ ثَانٍ يُصَرِّحُ بِصِحَّةِ مَا ذَكَرْنَاهُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If one of you wants to make a decision, then let him say: 'O Allah, I seek Your guidance by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek Your assistance by virtue of Your power, and I ask You from Your immense bounty. For indeed, You are capable and I am not, You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and my future, then decree it for me and make it easy for me, and bless me therein. And if You know that this matter is not good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and my future, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me pleased with it according to Your decree."  

ابن حبّان:٨٨٦أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمْزَةُ بْنُ طِلْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُفَضَّلِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَمْرًا فَلْيَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلَا أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا خَيْرًا لِي فِي دِينِي وَخَيْرًا لِي فِي مَعِيشَتِي وَخَيْرًا لِي فِي عَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فَاقْدُرْهُ لِي وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ خَيْرًا لِي فَاقْدُرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ مَا كَانَ وَرَضِّنِي بِقَدَرِكَ»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْأَمْرَ بِدُعَاءِ الِاسْتِخَارَةِ لِمَنْ أَرَادَ أَمْرًا إِنَّمَا أُمِرَ بِذَلِكَ بَعْدَ رُكُوعِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ غَيْرِ الْفَرِيضَةِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach us the supplication for isthikharah (seeking what us beneficial from Allah) as he would teach us a surah (chapter) from the Qur'an. He would tell us: When one of you intends to do a work, he should offer two supererogatory rak'ahs of prayer, and then say (at the end of the prayer):

"O Allah, I seek Your choice on the better (of the two matters) based upon Your knowledge, and I seek Your decree based upon Your power, and I ask You for Your great bounties. For Indeed, You are the One Who Decrees, and I do not decree, and You know, and I do not know, and You are the Knower of the Unseen. O Allah, if you know this, and You are the Knower of the Unseen. O Allah, if you know this - here he should name exactly what he wishes - is better for me with regard to my religion, and my life, and my afterlife, and the end result of my affairs, then decree it to me, and make it easy for me, and bless me on it. O Allah, and if You know this to be evil for me - and he says just as he said the first time - then avert it for me, and avert me from it. And decree for me good wherever it might be, the make me content with it." A version goes: "If the work is good immediately or subsequently." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1538)   

ابن حبّان:٨٨٧أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَوَالِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى يُعَلِّمُنَا الِاسْتِخَارَةَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ يَقُولُ «إِذَا هَمَّ أَحَدُكُمْ بِالْأَمْرِ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ مِنْ غَيْرِ الْفَرِيضَةِ ثُمَّ لِيَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلَا أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ اللَّهُمَّ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ يُسَمِّيهِ بِعَيْنِهِ خَيْرًا لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعَاشِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فقدره لي ويسره لي وبارك فيه وإن كان شرا لي في ديني ومعادي ومعاشي وعاقبة أمري فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي وَاصْرِفْنِي عَنْهُ وَقَدِّرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ وَرَضِّنِي بِهِ»  

ذِكْرُ مَا يَقُولُ الْمَرْءُ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ أَوَّلَ مَا يَرَاهُ

[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw the new moon, he would say, 'O Allah, let this moon bring us peace, faith, safety, Islam, and success in what we love and what pleases our Lord and your Lord, Allah.'"  

ابن حبّان:٨٨٨أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمَرْوَزِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَعَنْ عَمِّهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ وَالتَّوْفِيقِ لِمَا نُحِبُّ وَتَرْضَى رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ»  

ذِكْرُ اسْتِحْبَابِ الْإِكْثَارِ فِي السُّؤَالِ رَبَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلَا فِي دُعَائِهِ، وَتَرْكِ الِاقْتِصَارِ عَلَى الْقَلِيلِ مِنْهُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you asks, let him ask abundantly, for indeed he is asking his Lord."  

ابن حبّان:٨٨٩أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا سَأَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُكْثِرْ فَإِنَّهُ يَسْأَلُ رَبَّهُ»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ دُعَاءَ الْمَرْءِ رَبَّهُ فِي الْأَحْوَالِ مِنَ الْعِبَادَةِ الَّتِي يَتَقَرَّبُ بِهَا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا

that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Supplication is the worship." Then he recited: 'And your Lord said: 'Call upon Me, I will answer you. Verily, those who scorn my My worship, they will surely enter Hell in humiliation (40:60).'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3247)   

ابن حبّان:٨٩٠أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ ذَرٍّ عَنْ يُسَيْعٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الدُّعَاءُ هُوَ الْعِبَادَةُ» ثُمَّ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ}  

ذِكْرُ الشَّيْءِ الَّذِي إِذَا دَعَا الْمَرْءُ بِهِ رَبَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلَا أَجَابَهُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard a man saying: O Allah, I ask Thee, I bear witness that there is no god but Thou, the One, He to Whom men repair, Who has not begotten, and has not been begotten, and to Whom no one is equal, and he said: You have supplicated Allah using His Greatest Name, when asked with this name He gives, and when supplicated by this name he answers. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1493)  

ابن حبّان:٨٩١أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مِغْوَلٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سَمِعَ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنِّي أُشْهِدُكَ أَنَّكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَقَدْ سَأَلْتَ اللَّهَ بِالِاسْمِ الَّذِي إِذَا سُئِلَ بِهِ أَعْطَى وَإِذَا دُعِيَ بِهِ أَجَابَ»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ دُعَاءَ الْمَرْءِ بِمَا وَصَفْنَا إِنَّمَا هُوَ دُعَاؤُهُ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ الْأَعْظَمِ لَا يَخِيبُ مَنْ سَأَلَ رَبَّهُ بِهِ

[Machine] He entered the mosque with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and there was a man praying, supplicating and saying, "O Allah, I ask You by virtue of the fact that I bear witness that there is no god but You, the One, the Eternal, who begets not nor was He begotten, and there is none comparable unto Him." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, he has asked Allah by His greatest name, which if He is called upon using it, He answers, and if He is asked by it, He gives." And when a man was reciting in a corner of the mosque, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He has been given a melodious voice from among the melodious voices of the family of Dawood (David)." The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall I inform him?" He said, "Yes, inform him." So I informed Abu Musa, and he said, "He will always be my friend."

أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَسْجِدَ فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ يُصَلِّي يَدْعُو يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنِّي أُشْهِدُكَ أَنَّكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ سَأَلَ اللَّهَ بِاسْمِهِ الْأَعْظَمِ الَّذِي إِذَا سُئِلَ بِهِ أَعْطَى وَإِذَا دُعِيَ بِهِ أَجَابَ» وَإِذَا رَجُلٌ يَقْرَأ فِي جَانِب المَسْجِدِ فَقَال رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم «لَقَد أُعِطَي مِزْمَاراً مِنْ مَزَامِير آل دَاوُد» وَهُوَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بن قَيسٍ قَالَ فَقُلتُ لَهُ يَا رَسُوْلَ اللهِ أُخْبِرُهُ؟ فَقَالَ «أَخْبِرْهُ» فَأَخْبَرْتُ أَبَا مُوسى فَقَالَ لَنْ تَزَالَ لِي صَدِيقاً  

ذِكْرُ اسْمِ اللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ الَّذِي إِذَا سَأَلَ الْمَرْءُ رَبَّهُ أَعْطَاهُ مَا سَأَلَ

ibnhibban:893Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm a freed slave of Thaqīf > Qutaybah b. Saʿīd > Khalaf b. Khalīfah > Ḥafṣ from my cousin Anas b. Mālik > Anas b. Mālik

"I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and a man was standing and praying. When he bowed, prostrated and recited the tashahhud, he supplicated, and in his supplication he said: "Allahumma inni as'aluka bi-anna lakal-hamd, lailaha illa ant, al-mannanu badi'us-samawati wal-ard, ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram! Ya hayyu ya qayyum! Inni as'aluka. (O Allah, indeed I ask You since all praise is due to You, there is none worthy of worship but You, the Bestower, the Creator of the heavens and earth, O Possessor of majesty and honor, O Ever-living, O-Eternal, I ask of You.)' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Do you know what he has supplicated with?' They said: "Allah (SWT) and His Messenger know best." He said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, he called upon Allah by His greatest Name, which, if He is called by it, He responds, and if He is asked by it, He gives.'" كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَالِسًا فِي الْحَلْقَةِ وَرَجُلٌ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي فَلَمَّا رَكَعَ سَجَدَ وَتَشَهَّدَ دَعَا فَقَالَ فِي دُعَائِهِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْحَنَّانُ الْمَنَّانُ بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيَّامُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَتَدْرُونَ بِمَا دَعَا؟ » قَالُوا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ فَقَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ دَعَا بِاسْمِهِ الْعَظِيمِ الَّذِي إِذَا دُعِيَ بِهِ أَجَابَ وَإِذَا سُئِلَ بِهِ أَعْطَى»  

ذِكْرُ الْعِلَّةِ الَّتِي مِنْ أَجْلِهَا أَمَرَ بِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ

[Machine] The translation of the given phrase in English is: "Indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When one of you supplicates, let him have great desire and hope, for indeed there is nothing too great for Allah.'"

ذِكْرُ الْخَبَرِ الدَّالِّ عَلَى أَنَّ دُعَاءَ الْمَرْءِ بِأَوْثَقِ عَمَلِهِ قَدْ يُرْجَى لَهُ إِجَابَةُ ذَلِكَ الدُّعَاءِ

[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Three individuals went out walking and it started to rain, so they took shelter in a cave in a mountain. Suddenly, a large rock rolled down and blocked the entrance, trapping them inside. They said, "Let us supplicate to Allah with the best of our deeds."'  

ابن حبّان:٨٩٧أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «خَرَجَ ثَلَاثَةٌ يَتَمَاشَوْنَ فَأَصَابَهُمْ مَطَرٌ فَدَخَلُوا كَهْفَ جَبَلٍ فَانْحَطَّ عَلَيْهِمْ حَجَرٌ فَسَدَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الطَّرِيقَ فَقَالُوا ادْعُوا اللَّهَ بِأَوْثَقِ أَعْمَالِكُمْ  

ذِكْرُ سُؤَالِ الْعَبْدِ رَبَّهُ أَنْ لَا يُضِلَّهُ بَعْدَ إِذْ مَنَّ عَلَيْهِ بِالْإِسْلَامِ لَهُ وَالتَّوَكُّلِ عَلَيْهِ

" O Allah, it is unto Thee that I surrender myself. I affirm my faith in Thee and repose my trust in Thee and turn to Thee in repentance and with Thy help fought my adversaries. O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee with Thine Power; there is no god but Thou, lest Thou leadest me astray. Thou art ever-living that dieth not, while the Jinn and mankind die." أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ «اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ أَعُوذُ بِكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنَّ تُضِلَّنِي أَنْتَ الْحَيُّ الَّذِي لَا يَمُوتُ وَالْجِنُّ وَالْإِنْسُ يَمُوتُونَ»  

ذِكْرُ الْأَمْرِ بِمَا يَجِبُ عَلَى الْمَرْءِ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ قَبْلَ هِدَايَةِ اللَّهِ إِيَّاهُ لِلْإِسْلَامِ وَبَعْدَهُ

ibnhibban:899al-Naḍr b. Muḥammad b. al-Mubārak al-ʿĀbid > Muḥammad b. ʿUthmān al-ʿIjlī > ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsá > Isrāʾīl > Manṣūr > Ribʿī > ʿImrān b. Ḥuṣayn

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was approached by a man who said, "O Muhammad, Abdul-Muttalib is better for his people than you. He used to give them liver and fat tail for food, while you slaughter animals for them." The Prophet ﷺ replied, "What Allah wills." When the man wanted to leave, he asked, "What should I say?" The Prophet ﷺ advised him to say, "O Allah, protect me from the evil of myself, and help me make the right decisions." The man left without accepting Islam and later returned to the Prophet, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, I came to you and asked you to teach me. You told me to say, "O Allah, protect me from the evil of myself, and help me make the right decisions." Now that I have embraced Islam, what should I say?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Say, "O Allah, protect me from the evil of myself, and help me make the right decisions. O Allah, forgive me for what I have concealed, what I have disclosed, what I have erred, what I have done deliberately, and what I have done unknowingly."  

ابن حبّان:٨٩٩أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ الْعَابِدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْعِجْلِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ

أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ خَيْرٌ لِقَوْمِهِ مِنْكَ كَانَ يُطْعِمُهُمُ الْكَبِدَ وَالسَّنَامَ وَأَنْتَ تَنْحَرُهُمْ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفَ قَالَ مَا أَقُولُ؟ قَالَ «قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي شَرَّ نَفْسِي وَاعْزِمْ لِي عَلَى أَرْشَدِ أَمْرِي» فَانْطَلَقَ الرَّجُلُ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ أَسْلَمَ وَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَتَيْتُكَ فَقُلْتُ عَلِّمْنِي فَقُلْتَ «اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي شَرَّ نَفْسِي وَاعْزِمْ لِي عَلَى أَرْشَدِ أَمْرِي فَمَا أَقُولُ الْآنَ حِينَ أَسْلَمْتُ؟ قَالَ «قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي شَرَّ نَفْسِي وَاعْزِمْ لِي عَلَى أَرْشَدِ أَمْرِي اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا أَسْرَرْتُ وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ وَمَا أَخْطَأْتُ وَمَا عَمَدْتُ وَمَا جَهِلْتُ»  

ذِكْرُ مَا يُسْتَحَبُّ لِلْمَرْءِ سُؤَالَ الرَّبِّ جَلَّ وَعَلَا الزِّيَادَةَ لَهُ فِي الْهُدَى وَالتَّقْوَى

ibnhibban:900Abū Khalīfah > Muḥammad b. Kathīr al-ʿAbdī > Shuʿbah > Abū Isḥāq > Abū al-Aḥwaṣ > ʿAbdullāh

the Prophet (saas) used to say: "Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afaf wal-ghina (O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity and affluence)." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3832)   

ابن حبّان:٩٠٠أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى»  

ذِكْرُ مَا يُسْتَحَبُّ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلَا الْهِدَايَةَ لِأَرْشَدِ أُمُورِهِ

[Machine] From Uthman bin Abi Al-Aas and a woman from the Quraish, they both heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "O Allah, forgive me for my sins and transgressions." The other person said, "I heard him saying, 'O Allah, I seek guidance from You for my affairs and seek refuge in You from the evil of myself.'"  

ابن حبّان:٩٠١أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ * عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ

عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ وامْرَأَةٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ* أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَخَطَايَايَ وَعَمْدِي» وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَهْدِيكَ لِأَرْشَدِ أُمُورِي وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي»  

ذِكْرُ مَا يُسْتَحَبُّ لِلْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلَا صَرْفَ قَلْبِهِ إِلَى طَاعَتِهِ

ibnhibban:902al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān > Ḥibbān b. Mūsá > ʿAbdullāh > Ḥaywah b. Shurayḥ > Abū Hāniʾ al-Khawlānī > Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥman al-Ḥubulī > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ

Verily, the hearts of all the sons of Adam are between the two fingers out of the fingers of the Compassionate Lord as one heart. He turns that to any (direction) He likes. Then Allahs Messenger ﷺ said: 0 Allah, the Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Thine obedience. (Using translation from Muslim 2655)   

ابن حبّان:٩٠٢أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ حَيْوَةَ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحُبُلِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ يَقُولُ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ قُلُوبَ ابْنِ آدَمَ مُلْقًى بَيْنَ إِصْبَعَيْنِ مِنْ أَصَابِعِ الرَّحْمَنِ كَقَلْبٍ وَاحِدٍ يَصْرِفُهُ كَيْفَ يَشَاءُ» ثُمَّ يَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اللَّهُمَّ اصْرِفْ قُلُوبَنَا إِلَى طَاعَتِكَ»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ صَلَاةَ الدَّاعِي رَبَّهُ عَلَى صِفَتِهِ ﷺ فِي دُعَائِهِ تَكُونُ لَهُ صَدَقَةً عِنْدَ عَدَمِ الْقُدْرَةِ عَلَيْهَا

ibnhibban:903ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad b. Salm Bibayt al-Maqdis > Ḥarmalah b. Yaḥyá > Ibn Wahb > ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith > Darrāj > Abū al-Haytham > Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "Whoever of the Muslims does not possess any charity (to give), let him say in his supplication, 'O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, Your servant and Messenger, and send blessings upon the believers, male and female, and upon the Muslim men and Muslim women, for it is (considered) a form of charity."  

ابن حبّان:٩٠٣أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ بِبَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ دَرَّاجًا حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا الْهَيْثَمَ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «أَيُّمَا رَجُلٌ مُسْلِمٌ لَمْ يَكُنْ عِنْدَهُ صَدَقَةٌ فَلْيَقُلْ فِي دُعَائِهِ اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ وَصَلِّ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ فَإِنَّهَا زَكَاةٌ»  

ibnhibban:874ʿUmar b. Saʿīd b. Sinān al-Ṭāʾī > Faraj b. Rawāḥah al-Manbijī > Zuhayr b. Muʿāwiyah > Saʿd al-Ṭāʾī > Abū al-Mudillah > Abū Hurayrah

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The supplication of the oppressed is carried to the clouds and the doors of the heavens are opened for it, and the Lord, Blessed and Exalted, says, 'By My honor and might, I will aid you even if it is after a while.'"  

ابن حبّان:٨٧٤أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الطَّائِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا فَرَجُ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ الْمَنْبِجِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدٌ الطَّائِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُدِلَّةِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «دَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ تُحْمَلُ عَلَى الْغَمَامِ وَتُفْتَحُ لَهَا أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَيَقُولُ الرَّبُّ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى وَعِزَّتِي لَأَنْصُرَنَّكِ وَلَوْ بَعْدَ حِينٍ»  

ibnhibban:875Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan b. Qutaybah > Yazīd b. Mawhab > Ibn Wahb > Maʿrūf b. Sūwayd > ʿAlī b. Rabāḥ > Abū Hurayrah

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of the supplication of the oppressed."  

ابن حبّان:٨٧٥أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ مَعْرُوفِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ رَبَاحٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اتَّقُوا دَعْوَةَ الْمَظْلُومِ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let each one of you ask his Lord for all his needs, even as much as the width of his shoe, when it is worn out."  

ابن حبّان:٨٩٤أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قَطَنُ بْنُ نَسِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لِيَسْأَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ رَبَّهُ حَاجَتَهُ كُلَّهَا حَتَّى شِسْعَ نَعْلِهِ إِذَا انْقَطَعَ»  

ibnhibban:895Aḥmad b. ʿAlī b. al-Muthanná Bikhabar Gharīb

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let each one of you ask his Lord for his every need, even as small as the need for a strap of his sandal when it's broken."  

ابن حبّان:٨٩٥أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى بِخَبَرٍ غَرِيبٍ قَالَ قَطَنُ بْنُ نَسِيرٍ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لِيَسْأَلْ أَحَدُكُمْ رَبَّهُ حَاجَتَهُ كُلَّهَا حَتَّى شِسْعَ نَعْلِهِ إِذَا انْقَطَعَ»

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever sends salah upon me once, Allah (SWT) will send salah upon him tenfold, and will erase ten sins from him, and will raise him ten degrees in status." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1297)   

ابن حبّان:٩٠٤أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ خَلِيلٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيَّ صَلَاةً وَاحِدَةً صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ عَشْرَ صَلَوَاتٍ وَحَطَّ عَنْهُ عَشْرَ خَطِيئَاتٍ»  

ذِكْرُ كِتْبَةِ اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا الْحَسَنَاتِ لِمَنْ صَلَّى عَلَى صَفِيِّهِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً

ibnhibban:905Aḥmad b. ʿAlī b. al-Muthanná > Wahbb. Baqiyyah > Khālid b. ʿAbdullāh > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Isḥāq > al-ʿAlāʾ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman from his father > Abū Hurayrah

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever sends blessings upon me once, ten good deeds will be written for him."  

ابن حبّان:٩٠٥أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيَّ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً كُتِبَ لَهُ بِهَا عَشْرُ حَسَنَاتٍ»  

ذِكْرُ تَفَضُّلِ اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلَا عَلَى الْمُصَلِّي عَلَى صَفِيِّهِ ﷺ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً بِمَغْفِرَتِهِ عَشْرِ مِرَارٍ

ibnhibban:906al-Faḍl b. al-Ḥubāb > Mūsá b. Ismāʿīl > Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar > al-ʿAlāʾ from his father > Abū Hurayrah

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever sends salah upon me once, Allah (SWT) will send salah upon him tenfold." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1296)  

ابن حبّان:٩٠٦أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيَّ وَاحِدَةً صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ عَشْرًا»  

ذِكْرُ رَجَاءِ دُخُولِ الْجِنَانِ الْمُصَلِّي عَلَى الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ عِنْدَ ذِكْرِهِ مَعَ خَوْفِ دُخُولِ النِّيرَانِ عِنْدَ إِغْضَائِهِ عَنْهُ كُلَّمَا ذَكَرَهُ

ibnhibban:907Abū Yaʿlá > Abū Maʿmar > Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth > Muḥammad b. ʿAmr > Abū Salamah > Abū Hurayrah

[Machine] "The Prophet (PBUH) ascended the pulpit and said, 'Ameen, Ameen, Ameen.' It was asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, when you ascended the pulpit, you said 'Ameen, Ameen, Ameen.' He said, 'Gabriel came to me and said, 'Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and does not have his sins forgiven, and therefore enters Hell, then may Allah distance him. Say ameen.' So, I said 'ameen.' Then Gabriel said, 'Whoever's parents or one of them reaches old age and they do not earn Paradise by being dutiful towards them, then may Allah distance him. Say ameen.' So, I said 'ameen.' Then Gabriel said, 'Whoever hears your name mentioned and does not send blessings upon you, then may Allah distance him. Say ameen.' So, I said 'ameen."  

ابن حبّان:٩٠٧أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَقَالَ «آمِينَ آمِينَ آمِينَ» قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ حِينَ صَعِدْتَ الْمِنْبَرَ قُلْتَ آمِينَ آمِينَ آمِينَ قَالَ «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَتَانِي فَقَالَ مَنْ أَدْرَكَ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ وَلَمْ يُغْفَرْ لَهُ فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ فَأَبْعَدَهُ اللَّهُ قُلْ آمِينَ فَقُلْتُ آمِينَ وَمَنْ أَدْرَكَ أَبَوَيْهِ أَوْ أَحَدَهُمَا فَلَمْ يَبَرَّهُمَا فَمَاتَ فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ فَأَبْعَدَهُ اللَّهُ قُلْ آمِينَ فَقُلْتُ آمِينَ وَمَنْ ذُكِرْتُ عِنْدَهُ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْكَ فَمَاتَ فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ فَأَبْعَدَهُ اللَّهُ قُلْ آمِينَ فَقُلْتُ آمِينَ»
