[Machine] Get up and pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Two men stood up, but Abu Jahl refused to stand. Umar said to him, "Pray, O Abu Jahl, with the Prophet ﷺ ." He said, "I will not stand until a man comes who is stronger than me in physical strength and more powerful than me in wrestling, so that he can overpower me and put my face in the dirt." Umar said, "So I stood up and I was stronger than him in physical strength and more powerful than him in wrestling, so I overpowered him and put his face in the dirt." Uthman came and detained me, then Umar ibn al-Khattab left angrily until he reached the Prophet ﷺ . When the Prophet ﷺ saw him and saw the anger on his face, he said, "What's wrong with you, O Abu Hafs?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I came to a group sitting at the door of the mosque and the prayer had already been established. Among them was Abu Jahl al-Laithi. The two men stood up and repeated the conversation, then Umar said, 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, Uthman did not help him except by letting him spend the night with his wife, so he wants to thank him for it.' Uthman heard him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, don't you hear what Umar is saying in front of you?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, the mercy of Allah is with Umar. If you had brought me the head of the wicked one, I would have preferred that.'" Umar stood up, then the Prophet ﷺ called him when he was far away and said, "Come, O Umar, where did you intend to go?" He said, "I intended to bring you the head of the wicked one." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Sit down until I inform you about the sufficiency of the Lord from the prayer of Abu Jahl al-Laithi. Indeed, Allah has angels in the sky of this world who are in constant humility, not lifting their heads until the Hour is established. When the Hour is established, they lift their heads and say, 'Our Lord, we have not worshiped You as You deserve to be worshiped.' 'Umar bin Al-Khattab asked, "What do they say, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "As for the inhabitants of the lower heaven, they say, 'Glory be to the King, the Sovereign,' and as for the inhabitants of the second heaven, they say, 'Glory be to the Ever-Living, who never dies.' Say it, O Umar, in your prayer." 'Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, what about the one you taught me and commanded me to say in my prayer?" He said, "Say it once and say it at another time." The one he commanded me to say was, "I seek refuge in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and I seek refuge in You from You, the majesty of Your face."

I was sitting by the side of Ibn 'Umar, and we were waiting for the bier of Umm Aban, daughter of 'Uthman, and there was also 'Amr b. 'Uthman. In the meanwhile there came Ibn 'Abbas led by a guide. I conceive that he was informed of the place of Ibn 'Umar. So he came till he sat by my side. While I was between them (Ibn 'Abbas and Ibn 'Umar) there came the noise (of wailing) from the house. Upon this Ibn 'Umar said (that is, he pointed out to 'Amr that he should stand and forbid them, for): I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: The dead is punished because of the lamentation of his family. 'Abdullah made it general (what was said for a particular occasion). Ibn 'Abbas said: When we were with the Commander of the believers, 'Umar b. Khattab, we reached Baida', and there was a man under the shadow of the tree. He said to me: Go and inform me who is that person. So I went and (found) that he was Suhaib. I returned to him and said: You commanded me to find out for you who that was, and he is Suhaib. He (Hadrat 'Umar) said: Command him to see us. I said: He has family along with him. He said: (That is of no account) even if he has family along with him. So he (the narrator) told him to see (the Commander of the believers and his party). When we came (to Medina), it was before long that the Commander of the believers was wounded, and Suhaib came weeping and crying: Alas for the brother, alas for the companion. Upon this 'Umar said: Didn't you know, or didn't you hear, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:" The dead is punished because of the lamentation of his family"? Then 'Abdullah made it general and 'Umar told it of certain occasions. So I ('Abdullah b. Abu Mulaika) stood up and went to 'A'isha and told her what Ibn 'Umar had said. Upon this she said: I swear by Allah that Messenger of Allah ﷺ never said that dead would be punished because of his family's lamenting (for him). What he said was that Allah would increase the punishment of the unbeliever because of his family's lamenting for him. Verily it is Allah Who has caused laughter and weeping. No bearer of a burden will bear another's burden. Ibn Abu Mulaika said that al-Qasim b. Muhammad said that when the words of 'Umar and Ibn 'Umar were conveyed to 'A'isha, she said: You have narrated it to me from those who are neither liar nor those suspected of lying but (sometimes) hearing misleads.

[Machine] I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, passing by the market of Thul-Majaz while I was in a shop of mine. He passed by wearing a red garment, and I heard him saying, "O people, say there is no god but Allah, you will be successful." A man was following him and throwing stones at him, causing his ankle to bleed. The man was saying, "O people, do not listen to him, for he is a liar." I asked, "Who is this?" It was said, "A young boy from the Banu Abd al-Muttalib." When Allah revealed Islam, we left our retreat with our possessions, including a red camel, until we reached close to Madinah. As we were sitting, a man approached us wearing two white garments and greeted us. He asked, "Where are you from?" We replied, "From the retreat, and we have a red camel with us." He asked, "Are you selling me this camel?" We answered, "Yes." He then asked, "For how much?" We replied, "For such and such an amount of dates." He took them without counting, and grabbed the reins of the camel, riding away until he disappeared within the walls of Madinah. At that moment, some of us asked each other, "Do you know this man?" No one knew him. So, some people from the group said, "You are giving your camel to someone you do not know?" The camel's owner said, "Do not worry, for I have seen a man who would never betray us, and I have not seen anything more resembling the moon, next to him, on the night of the full moon." In the evening, a man came to us and greeted us, saying, "Peace be upon you, and may the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you. Are you the ones who came from the retreat?" We said, "Yes." He said, "I am the Messenger of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and he commands you to eat from these dates until you are satisfied and take (some) with you until you are full." We ate from the dates until we were full and took some with us until we were full. The next day, we arrived in Madinah and found the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, standing and delivering a sermon to the people from the pulpit. I heard him saying, "The hand that gives is better than the hand that takes, and you should start with those whom you support, your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, and the one who is nearest to you." Then, a man from the Ansar stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, these are the sons of Tha'laba bin Yarbua who killed so-and-so during the Jahiliyyah, so grant us revenge for our killed." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, lifted his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits and said, "A mother should not be made to suffer for her child, nor a child made to suffer for his mother."
