12. Book of Zakāh (2/3)
the Messenger of Allah said: “Charity is not permissible for a rich person, or for one who is strong and healthy. ” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1839)
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , he said: "Charity is not permissible for a wealthy person or for one who is capable." This is what Ath-Thawri and Shu'bah said, and in the narration of Ibrahim ibn Sa'd, it is mentioned as "fair."
The Prophet ﷺ said: He who begs (from people) when he is affluent will come on the Day of Resurrection with scrapes, scratchings, or lacerations on his face. He was asked: What constitutes affluence, Messenger of Allah? He replied:It is fifty dirhams or its value in gold. The narrator Yahya said: Abdullah ibn Sufyan said to Sufyan: I remember that Shu'bah does not narrate from Hakim ibn Jubayr. Sufyan said: Zubayr transmitted to us this tradition from Muhammad ibn AbdurRahman ibn Yazid. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1626)
The Prophet ﷺ said: Sadaqah may not be given to rich man, with the exception of five classes: One who fights in Allah's path, or who collects it, or a debtor, or a man who buys it with his money, or a man who has a poor neighbour who has been given sadaqah and gives a present to the rich man. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1635)
[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi praised what was narrated from Malik, from Zaid ibn Aslam, from Ata ibn Yasar, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Donations are only permissible for five [purposes]." He mentioned this hadith in a condition in his sermon that it is authentic. Malik could send in the hadith and receive it, or he could transmit it from someone trustworthy. The saying about it is the saying of the trustworthy one who transmits and attributes it.
The Prophet ﷺ said: If one who is afflicted with poverty refers it to me, his poverty will not be brought to an end; but if one refers it to Allah, He will soon give him sufficiency, either by a speedy death or by a sufficiency which comes later. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1645)
The Prophet ﷺ said: Hands are of three types: Allah's hand is the upper one; the bestower's hand is the one near it; the beggar's hand is the lower one. So bestow what is surplus, and do not submit yourself to the demand of your soul. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1649)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Hands are of three types, one is spread out till the end of the Hadith."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There are three hands of Allah: the upper hand of Allah, the giving hand that follows it, and the lower hand of the one who seeks help, until the Day of Resurrection. So, refrain from asking as much as you can."
When this verse was revealed: "And those who hoard gold and silver," the Muslims were grieved about it. Umar said: I shall dispel your care. He, therefore, went and said: Prophet of Allah, your Companions were grieved by this verse. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah has made zakat obligatory simply to purify your remaining property, and He made inheritances obligatory that they might come to those who survive you. Umar then said: Allah is most great. He then said to him: Let me inform you about the best a man hoards; it is a virtuous woman who pleases him when he looks at her, obeys him when he gives her a command, and guards his interests when he is away from her. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1664)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prescribed the sadaqah (alms) relating to the breaking of the fast as a purification of the fasting from empty and obscene talk and as food for the poor. If anyone pays it before the prayer (of 'Id), it will be accepted as zakat. If anyone pays it after the prayer, that will be a sadaqah like other sadaqahs (alms). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1609)
[Machine] "People used to give Zakat al-Fitr during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may peace be upon him, as a saa' of dates or a saa' of barley or a saa' of raisins or a saa' of wheat."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "When he (referring to Prophet Muhammad) mandated the payment of Zakat al-Fitr, he ordered to give a Sa'a (a measure) of dates or a Sa'a of barley, and nothing else was to be given as Zakat al-Fitr except dates."
Qais bin Sa'ad said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ enjoined Sadaqatul-Fitr upon is before (the command of) Zakat was revealed. He neither ordered us (to pay) nor forbade us (from paying it), so we did it.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1828)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered loudly from the belly of Makkah, proclaiming that the Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory duty upon every Muslim, whether young or old, male or female, free or slave, present or absent. It is to be given in a measure of barley or dates.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ emphasized the importance of giving charity during Ramadan, with each person being urged to give a saa' (a measurement) of dates, barley, or wheat.
Messenger of Allah ﷺ made it incumbent on all the slave or free Muslims, male or female, to pay one Sa' of dates or barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1504)
[Machine] Abu Sa'id mentioned to him the payment of Zakat al-Fitr, so he said, "I will not give except what I used to give during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, which is a sa' of dates or a sa' of barley or a sa' of wheat or a sa' of raisins." Then a man from the people or a debtor from the wheat said to him, "What about the value of Mu'awiyah? Will you not accept it or deal with it?" He replied, "That is not the value of Mu'awiyah. I neither accept it nor deal with it." These are the chains of narrations that I mentioned in relation to the mention of the measurement of barley. All of them are authentic, and the most famous of them is the hadith of Abu Mas'har from Nafi' from Ibn 'Umar, which we have high regard for. However, I left it because it is not a condition of the book. It was also narrated from Ali ibn Abi Talib.
[Machine] "On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said regarding the Zakat al-Fitr (charity given at the end of Ramadan): 'For every free person, whether young or old, and for every slave, a saa' (measurement) of wheat or a saa' of dates.' 'This is transmitted from Ali and others have confirmed it.'"
Abu Dawud said “I heard Muhammad bin Isa narrating this tradition who said Mu’tamar narrated it to us. And he (Mu’tamar) said “ I heard Al Hakam bin Aban narrating this tradition. He did not mention the name of Ibn ‘Abbas. Abu Dawud said “Al Hussain bin Huraith wrote to me saying “Al Fadl bin Musa narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas to the same effect from the Prophet ﷺ. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2225)
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ delivered a sermon and said, "Whoever has food should give charity with a sa' [unit of measurement] of wheat, barley, dates, flour, raisins, or salt."
[Machine] She informed him that they used to give Zakat al-Fitr during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, in the measure that sustains the household or the measure that sustains them individually. The people of Madinah all used to do that.
If anyone guarantees me that he will not beg from people, I will guarantee him Paradise. Thawban said : I (will not beg). He never asked anyone for anything. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1643)
‘Abd al-Rahman bin Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked Is there anyone of you who provided food to a poor man today? Abu Bakr said I entered the mosque where a beggar was begging ; I found a piece of bread in the hand of ‘Abdal-Rahman which I took and gave it to him (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1670)
The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone seeks protection in Allah's name, grant him protection; if anyone begs in Allah's name, give him something; if anyone gives you an invitation, accept it; and if anyone does you a kindness, recompense him; but if you have not the means to do so, pray for him until you feel that you have compensated him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1672)
[Machine] Thanaa Jarir, and as for the story of Abdul Aziz ibn Muslim
[Machine] About Mujahid and with Al-A'mash, there is another authentic chain that meets their conditions.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever asks you for something in the name of Allah, give it to him, and whoever seeks refuge with you in the name of Allah, grant him refuge, and whoever invites you, respond to him." This is a sound chain of narration, as it has been authenticated by both Al-A'mash and the two sheikhs, and we adhere to our principle of accepting additional trustworthy narrators in the chains of transmission and texts.
While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a man brought him some gold equal in weight to an egg, and said: Messenger of Allah, I have got this from a mine; take it; it is sadaqah. I have no more than this. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned his attention from him. Then he came to him from his right side and repeated the same words. But he (the Prophet) turned his attention from him. He then came to him from his left side and repeated the same words. But he (again) turned his attention from him. He then came to him from behind. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it and threw it away. Had it hit him, it would have hurt him or wounded him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: One of you brings all that he possesses and says: This is sadaqah. Then he sits down and spreads his hand before the people. The best sadaqah is that which leaves a competence. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1673)
A man entered the mosque. The Prophet ﷺ commanded the people to throw their clothes as sadaqah. Thereupon they threw their clothes (as sadaqah). He then asked him to take two clothes from them. He reprimanded him and said: Take your clothe. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1675)
Abu Hurairah reported I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ, What kind of sadaqah is most excellent? He replied What a man with little property can afford to give; and begin with those for whom you are responsible. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1677)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us one day to give sadaqah. At that time I had some property. I said: Today I shall surpass AbuBakr if I surpass him any day. I, therefore, brought half my property. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked: What did you leave for your family? I replied: The same amount. AbuBakr brought all that he had with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: What did you leave for your family? He replied: I left Allah and His Apostle for them. I said: I shall never compete you in anything. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1678)

I had a slave girl and I set her free. When the Prophet ﷺ entered upon me, I informed him (of this). He said : May Allah give reward for it; if you had given her to your maternal uncles, it would have increased your reward (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1690)
The Prophet ﷺ commanded to give sadaqah. A man said: Messenger of Allah, I have a dinar. He said: Spend it on yourself. He again said: I have another. He said: Spend it on your children. He again said: I have another. He said: Spend it on your wife. He again said: I have another. He said: Spend it on your servant. He finally said: I have another. He replied: You know best (what to do with it). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1691)

It is sufficient sin for a man that he neglects him whom he maintains. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1692)
[Machine] Abu 'Amir Al-'Aqadi and Abu Dawud Al-Tayalisi narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us, and Abu al-'Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, they said: Ibrahim ibn Marzuq narrated to us, and Bishr ibn 'Umar and Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Murrah, from 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith, from Abu Kathir, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon and said, "Beware of miserliness, for indeed those who came before you were destroyed because of it. They were commanded to be stingy, so they became stingy. They were commanded to cut off ties, so they cut off ties. And they were commanded to engage in immoral acts, so they engaged in immoral acts."

Or he said, "until the judgment is passed among the people." Yazid said, and Abu Al-Khair used to say, "A day will not pass without him giving charity, even if it is a small piece of bread or an onion."
[Machine] Indeed, actions compete with one another so that charity says, "I am the best among you."
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'A Dirham was better than a hundred thousand Dirhams.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how?' He said: 'A man had two Dirhams and gave one in charity, and another man went to part of his wealth and took out a hundred thousand Dirhams and gave them in charity."' The Prophet ﷺ said: "There are three whom Allah (SWT) loves: A man who comes to some people and asks (to be given something) for the sake of Allah and not for the sake of their relationship, but they do not give him, so a man stayed behind and gave it to him in secret, and no one knew of his giving except Allah (SWT) and the one to whom he gave it. People who travel all night until sleep becomes dearer to them than anything equated with it, so they lay down their heads (and slept), then a man among them got up and started praying to Me and beseeching Me, reciting My Verses. And a man who was on a campaign and met the enemy and they fled, but he went forward (pursuing them) until he was killed or victory was granted." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1615)

He stated, "For every ten 'wasq', a qinu (a container) is to be placed in the mosque for the poor."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two types of jealousy, one that Allah loves and the other that Allah hates, and there are two types of suspicion, one that Allah loves and the other that Allah hates. The type of jealousy that Allah loves is when it is regarding something doubtful, and the type of jealousy that Allah hates is when it is regarding something without doubt. And the type of suspicion that Allah loves is when a person gives in charity, and the type of suspicion that Allah hates is when it comes from arrogance."
