[AI] "Leave them, O Abu Abd al-Malik, for indeed, he (referring to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) passed by a funeral, and he cried over it, and I was with him, and Umar ibn al-Khattab was also with him. Umar berated the women who were crying over the funeral, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Leave them, O son of al-Khattab, for indeed, the soul is afflicted, and indeed, the eye sheds tears, and indeed, the covenant is recent.' He (Abu Abd al-Malik) said, 'Did you hear this from him?' He (Umar) said, 'Yes.' He (Abu Abd al-Malik) said, 'So Allah and His Messenger know best.'"
[AI] His father, Abu Huraira, asked him, "Leave them, O Abu Abd al-Malik, for indeed, it (the procession) passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a funeral, and he cried over it. And I was with him, and Umar bin al-Khattab was with him. Umar scolded the women who were crying with the funeral, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Leave them, O son of al-Khattab, for indeed, the soul is saddened, and the eye sheds tears, and the promise (of death) is true.' He asked, 'Did you hear it?' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.'"
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ went out for a funeral procession with Umar ibn Al-Khattab. He heard women crying, so Umar raised his voice to calm them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Umar, "O Umar, let them be, for the eye sheds tears, the soul feels sorrow, and the appointed time is near."
[AI] Salama bin al-Azraq testified that I heard Abu Huraira saying that we passed by the funeral of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I was with him, as well as Umar ibn al-Khattab and some women crying. He reproached and admonished them, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave them, O Umar, for the eye sheds tears, the soul grieves, and the covenant is near."
[AI] Salama said, "Do not say that, O Abu Abdullah, for I bear witness on the authority of Abu Huraira that I heard him say: 'I accompanied the Prophet ﷺ once at a funeral procession along with Umar ibn Khattab and there were women crying. Umar restrained them and scolded them. The Prophet ﷺ said to Umar, 'Leave them, O Umar, for the eye weeps, the heart feels sorrow, and the tongue speaks out of habit.' They asked Umar, 'Did you hear him say this?' He replied, 'Yes.' Ibn Umar then said, 'By Allah, the Messenger of Allah knows better, for he said it twice.'"
