وَسَلَّم عن الوصال فقال رجل من المسلمين فإنك يا رَسولَ اللهِ تواصل فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم وأيكم مثلي إني أبيت يطعمني ربي ويسقيني فلما أبوا أن ينتهوا عن الوصال واصل بهم يوما ثُمَّ يوما ثُمَّ رأو الهلال فقال لو تأخر لعدت بكم كالمنكل لهم يعني حين أبوا أن ينتهوا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade Al-Wisal (fasting continuously for more than one day without taking any meals). A man from the Muslims said, "But you do Al-Wisal, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" Messenger of Allah ﷺ I said, "Who among you is similar to me? I sleep and my Lord makes me eat and drink." When the people refused to give up Al-Wisal, the Prophet ﷺ fasted along with them for one day, and did not break his fast but continued his fast for another day, and when they saw the crescent, the Prophet ﷺ said, "If the crescent had not appeared, I would have made you continue your fast (for a third day)," as if he wanted to punish them for they had refused to give up Al-Wisal.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade (his Companions) from observing fast uninterruptedly. One of the Muslims said: Messenger of Allah, you yourself observe Saum Wisal, whereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who among you is like me? I spend night (in a state) that my Allah feeds me and provides me drink. When they (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) did not agree in abandoning the uninterrupted fast, then the Prophet ﷺ also observed this fast with them for a day, and then for a day. They then saw the new moon and he (the Holy Prophet) said: If the appearance of the new moon were delayed. I would have observed more (fasts) with you (and he did it) by way of warning to them as they had not agreed to refrain (from observing Saum Wisal)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade companionship, so a man from the Muslims said: "You continuously keep me company." He replied: "You are not like me. I stay overnight and my Lord feeds me and gives me drink." When they refused to stop their companionship, he continued to be in their company day after day until the crescent moon was sighted. He then said: "If it had been delayed, I would have increased you like Al-Munikil."
